I really don't want to be a Jedi Knight anymore....

My 5 year old wakes up at 6.30 in the morning asking "who do you want to be: Luke or Obi-Wan?".I love being with him but I just want to spend time with him as his Mum not as his Jedi Master! What do I do? Should I wield my lightsaber and help him fight the dark side or just ignore this phase and hope he gets more sensible again soon? Do other Mum's find themselves drawn into battles in a galaxy far far away.....?

Presumably it is too late to have a brother that can be playmate?

Would he be up to the Lego Star Wars games (on every game platform inc PC?)

Chamomile · 09/01/2008 21:47

On the way home from school I was told I wasn't a good enough fighter to be a jedi master.

I was totally crushed, of course!
My DS is 6 and obsessed!

PeachesMcLean · 09/01/2008 21:47

At the moment, I have to choose which Pokemon I like the best. I don't think "DS dahling, I really don't give a toss" is the right answer.

flowerybeanbag · 09/01/2008 21:49

Can't you be Princess Leia?

Actually, no, Luke or Obi-Wan much better. I always had to be Princess Leia when I was young playing Star Wars with my brothers.

spicemonster · 09/01/2008 21:52

Say you want to be yoda. He's a jedi knight but doesn't do much in the way of lightsaber wielding.

Tragically, my DS is only 10 months - I'm a bit of a SW geek

I think if they are going to make you do it, you can at least be someone a bit interesting. My current incarnation is Grand Moff Tarkin. I believe I am crual and a bit unpredictable. I hate it when I have to be the obvious ones, like Princess Leia. DS (6) is Luke Skywalker and DD (4) likes to be Wicket, the Ewok.

Have you been to the Star Wars exhibition in County Hall? I took DS over Christmas and he absolutely loved it.

HonoriaGlossop · 09/01/2008 22:05

We have now moved on to the level of not only being the star wars characters, but also the actors PLAYING the star wars characters, with me having to shout "Action!" and "Cut!"

ingles2 · 09/01/2008 22:23

I have 2 boys, who have both been star wars fanatics since tiny. I'm sorry to tell you blisscake that acting out superheroes doesn't ever stop for little boys, they just move onto the next character...instead of having to be Darth Vader fighting Luke in the lava place all the time, I now sometimes get to be Voldermort(!) or Megatron (!!)

ingles2 · 09/01/2008 22:26

And we do that to Honoria!!! [grin} !!! We've even recorded and edited our own version of Ep3 , with special effects involving all the SW Lego!!!!!!!

blisscake · 09/01/2008 22:29

Sounds like Star Wars Obsession Discorder is fairly widespread. Maybe i'll go for being Jabba the Hut. It'll put my christmas love handles to good use.
Peaches , one day that line will just slip out..

Mind you it's got to be better that being a fairy / princess / cat (my friends dd is a cat 24/7!!!)

Bink · 09/01/2008 22:32

This may not work for you blisscake but (ds, 8.5, has come to Star Wars a wee bit late and has discovered Molesworth just about simultaneously) I have found it quite useful to be

DARTH MATER

(geddit? ... no, well, I'll get my coat cape)

blisscake · 09/01/2008 22:35

I like it Bink. Might be able to use the force to get him to do what he's told too.

Any Star Wars character has to be better than being Megatron all the time.

blisscake · 10/01/2008 19:14

So its not just me living a double life. Well, maybe being a part time hero of the rebel alliance is not so bad...

There is a Star Wars DVD playing in my living room right now and I am being regularly updated (as if I haven't seen it all 70 million times already) - ds2 is mad about it!

southeastastra · 10/01/2008 19:32

i don't want to keep putting the arms on little lego star wars figures. he always takes them off and puts them on other ones. and they're always number 1 arm or number 2 arm .

ElenyaTuesday · 10/01/2008 19:35

Oh god, yes - those Bl>>dy Lego figures!!!

poshwellies · 10/01/2008 19:36

glad its not just me then..current convo between ds (5) and dh "I want to be Luke and you can be darth vader"

Currently ones with light sabre and other with wrapping paper roll...

Anything is better than transforming optimus prime for the sodding trillonth time

rantinghousewife · 10/01/2008 19:39

Ha ha, make the most of it, they do eventually grow out of it. And then you have to deal with the monosyllabic pronouncements about Enter Shakiri and the smell of Lynx.
I'd far rather be Obi Wan myself.

blisscake · 10/01/2008 19:51

rantinghousewife, you scare me. Isn't there a period between Super Heroes/inter-galactic war fare and grunting when they turn human again???? What's it all about? I'll just have to keep having babies as they're so cute when they're tiny and can't speak.

southeastastra · 10/01/2008 19:53
