I really don't want to be a Jedi Knight anymore....

My 5 year old wakes up at 6.30 in the morning asking "who do you want to be: Luke or Obi-Wan?".I love being with him but I just want to spend time with him as his Mum not as his Jedi Master! What do I do? Should I wield my lightsaber and help him fight the dark side or just ignore this phase and hope he gets more sensible again soon? Do other Mum's find themselves drawn into battles in a galaxy far far away.....?

the plus side is, they'll walk anyway for any distance so long as they have a light sabre with them. A stick will do (but then it's usually turns into a Lord of the rings saga...)

Not so good round Adsa though....

ejt1764 · 12/01/2008 11:27

You are soooo lucky to be the Jedi Master - I have to be Chewbacca!!

And yes, I have very long shaggy hair, but there the resemblance ends (I hope!

DH is Han Solo, DD is Princes Leia (she's only 3 months, so doesn't get much choice) ... he's decided that Grandad is Obi-One, and Grandma is Yoda (cue regular big conversation about whether Yoda is make or female) ....

Oh to be a Jedi Master ....

saltire · 12/01/2008 11:33

I, up until quite recently had to alternate between being Hermoine or Proffessor McGonnagall, Princess Leia or whatserface from Pirates of the Carribean, sometimes even a Dalek , Cyberman or if I was really lucky, Rose Tyler. DS2 is 8 now and thankfully I'm not required to "join in" as much

Buda · 12/01/2008 11:37

LOL at this thread!

DS has been through his Scooby Doo phase - he had all of the gang as imaginary friends.

He then went through his POwer Rangers phase. Lots of fighting.

Then we hit the Star Wars phase. Still in it a bit but I don't have to be a Jedi too often these days. He was thrilled with the real Dart Vadar replica light sabre he got for Xmas! We took him to the exhibition at County Hall in Oct and he loved it.

He also likes HSM.

Wants to BE Drake Bell from Drake and Josh now.

But his current obsession is football. 'Mummy watch this penalty'. 'Mummy watch this free kick'. 'Mummy watch this corner'. 'Mummy today at school we did......... and I did..... and I scored....' ' Mummy remember 6 months ago in the summer when Daddy and I were playing football in the garden and I did this'

LOL at Miffy massacre!

saltire · 12/01/2008 11:40

Ooh yes, Buday i forgot Drake and Josh. DS2 also wants to be Hannah Montana's boyfriend

Kammy · 12/01/2008 12:22

I've given in! Can highly recommend Lego Star Wars computer game, putting together Star Wars lego, arguing over film script, role playing the entire series whilst out on a walk...(got ds up Snowdon age 5 I kid you not!) and doing family mastermind style challenges on the story...

As with everything I tell myself 'he won't be doing it when he's 18'. I'll be distraught. Enjoy.

Buda · 12/01/2008 13:08

It is lovely. I know it is a bit wearing but their total absorption and ability to let go and their imaginations are wonderful.

And I am partial to Lego Star Wars on PS2. And FC brought me DS Jabba the Hut's Sail Barge last Xmas although he hadn't asked for it. I had great fun building helping build it!

rantinghousewife · 12/01/2008 13:25

This thread is making me feel quite nostalgic!
Oh and Blisscake, you should know, that even when they're taller than you with size 11 feet, they still give mum a peck on the check and say goodnight before they stomp up to bed. The growing up bit ain't all that bad.

I play Star Wars light sabre fights with the leeks in the supermarket with ds2. Ds1 (12) is suitably mortified

TsarChasm · 12/01/2008 13:45

A Wii and the Lego Starwars game is what you need

Buda · 12/01/2008 13:51

We have a Wii. We have Lego Star Wars 1 and 2 for PS2 AND the new Lego Star Wars Nintendo DS one.

CAn I really justify the Wii one too?

TsarChasm · 12/01/2008 14:01

Gawd I really couldn't tell you. It's all beyond me tbh

I suppose you get to wave your sabre (ie handset) around with the Wii.

But other than that I can't believe it's that different to a PS2 game.

juliewoolie · 12/01/2008 14:04

this thread is scaring me DS is 7mth.

Its bad enough when DP is wielding his lightsabre and is asking can you feel the force

oh and they never grow up...DH nd his best mate have been having a text debate all day over Hans Solo vs Indiana Jones - who would you back in a fight....FFS. They have been getting really heated!"

ElenyaTuesday · 12/01/2008 17:12

The Lego Imperial Star Destroyer is being dismantled behind me right now............ I could cry, I will have to help to re-build it shortly!!!

Bink · 12/01/2008 17:53

There is high-pitched gurgling giggling (and thundering feet) going on above my head, which has something to do with two cardboard tube innards from wrapping-paper rolls. I thought of finding some luminous paint - blue for ds's & probably RED for dd's - would that be foolish??

blisscake · 12/01/2008 20:25

I stopped treating ds as if his love of Star Wars was a mental health problem and joined in with him. He loved it and I did too - well for a little while anyway.... ds however now says he wants to have is birthday party on Naboo and claims that he is THE Luke Skywalker.

Bink: red lightsaber is controversial in our house as ds1 never wants to be the baddie.

Ranty - nice to know that

DS2 (6)had a star wars birthday party in November. We billed it as a Jedi training camp. All the kids had to come as their favourite character or as a padawan learner. Family and adult friends all joined in with made or hired costumes. The 3 most evil men in the empire : Darth Maul (DH) Darth Vader (DH's best mate) and Darth Siddious (my brother) were all there. I was Leia. My dad was Luke Skywalker riding a taun taun from Empire strikes back, one brother was a sand person and we had 2 Amadala's.

We made pod racers out of packing boxes, washing up cartons etc. painted them with left over emulsion and put holes in them to be strung over the kids shoulders. We then set up an assaut course in the garden for a pod race. We taught them certain moves (copied from Jedi training school at the SW exhibition) and they then had one-on-one battle experiences with Darth Siddious. We painted a football pinata like the Death star and they whacked it with a light sabre. There were loads of other games, all accompanied by the sound track blaring at top volume. I decorated the ground floor of the house with silver, black and orange decorations and helium balloons. It was all great fun. We gave up 10 minutes from the end and they just had an all out light sabre battle - and frankly loved it all. It will be hard to beat that party in the future.

blisscake · 12/01/2008 20:43

uptomyeyes that sounds amazing.v impressive will definately nick some of your ideas. Ta!

uptomyeyes · 12/01/2008 20:51

It was great blisscake.

Save R2D2 from the Dagobah swamp (marshmallows in stuck in green jelly) either using your teeth - of by using the force. Most of them believed that they could actually do that.

X-wing factor dance competition.

Can you feel the force - blind fold your padawan learner, hold a long stick with a jingly (baby) ball tied on a piece of string to the end of the stick. Get the padawan learner to listen out for the jingly ball and then use the force to help them hit the ball with their light sabre.

They drank yoda soda, ate wookie cookies etc. All fab stuff. I did want to do a graduation ceremony to let them graduate as Jedi Knights, but frankly some were never gonna stray far from the dark side.

blisscake · 12/01/2008 21:15

V good. That's sorted then.ds will love it.
