What is yours? And yes I know it's not an AIBU but posting for traffic is a crime I like committing.
Personally, I can't decide. Happy Valley was bloody brilliant and I loved Broadchurch, Shetland. I also love the more lighthearted Father Brown, Grantchester and Jonathan Creek. Scott and Bailey was binge watched with great joy.

Can you pick a favourite? Just one?

OP posts:

Midsomer Murders.

melisma · 23/04/2022 22:12

Cracker
Happy Valley
The Missing
Night manager
Line of Duty

In that order! If it hadn't have been for the abysmal last series of LoD it would've been higher. I've never been more disappointed with a TV programme as I was with that final episode!

Loudhousefun · 23/04/2022 22:35

Luther, The fall, Broadchurch, The bridge, Whitehouse farm, Peaky Blinders, all brilliant

Calmdown14 · 23/04/2022 22:38

New Tricks (when it was Sandra)
Scott and Bailey (love Amelia Bullmore)
Traces was also good on Alibi which I think she co wrote
Agree on later Rebus and on Hinterland and Hidden - some really great Welsh TV

No Offence went a bit under the radar and deserved more credit.

There was something on daytime TV with Sharon Small (think it had London in the title) which was excellent for the time slot

Cocopopsss · 23/04/2022 22:41

I usually watch shows on bbc Iplayer. So I may be a bit limited but there have been some brilliant ones:
Line of Duty (last season was a let down though)
Luther
The Missing
Baptiste
The Night Manager
The Responder
Time

Russell19 · 23/04/2022 22:46

I absolutely loved broadchurch

100problems · 23/04/2022 23:02

Whitechapel
Morse
Ashes to ashes
Unforgotten

100problems · 23/04/2022 23:04

I have watched Morse over and over. Except the last which I simply can't bring myself to watch at all. I bloody love John Thaw.

GingerDuo · 23/04/2022 23:11

I adored all of those plus Above Suspicion

GingerDuo · 23/04/2022 23:13

Joystir59 · 23/04/2022 21:30

No Offence was fantastic

Oh yes!! How could I forget this.

QueenSerena · 23/04/2022 23:19

Morse and Lewis, can’t beat ‘em.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/04/2022 23:20

I still love Jonathan creek !

plominoagain · 23/04/2022 23:21

It’s not fair, choosing one .

I’d have to choose between Poirot and Miss Marple, and I just can’t . May have shed a tear at the end of ‘Curtain’ though .

Morse but also...I know this is dumb but the one with the two male detectives 😂😂😂

Early 2000s maybe? The title was their names but I can't for the life of me think of it... one slightly Older than the other? I need to go google

Dalziel and Pascoe?

DFOD · 23/04/2022 23:38

Juliet Bravo - loved that

5foot5 · 23/04/2022 23:42

Love Spooks too!

Does Spooks count as crime drama? If so then that's a thumbs up from me, one of my favourite shows ever. Apart from series 9 which was total bollocks and I prefer to pretend it didn't happen.

Life on Mars also brilliant.

For light hearted stuff I have a very soft spot for Bergerac. Nostalgia for 80s and early 90s I suppose. Well and a young John Nettles obviously!

XelaM · 23/04/2022 23:50

"The Victim" was brilliant I thought

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 23/04/2022 19:49

Guess this one:

'Have you been stabbed, pet?'

(I saw someone describe this programme like this on MN once and it made me laugh)

I quote this every time Vera comes on Grin

Line of duty for me. I enjoyed professor T a lot too.

Hinterland, and the vastly underrated The Tunnel

The Tunnel was excellent!

When they came down in the lift and the entire country was like WHAT?! Grin I was worried about the last episode of peaky blinders after the LOD fiasco but it was brilliant.

I always come back to the first series of the BBCs Messiah (the one actually based on the book) which was on in 2001. It seems like just nowhere legit to stream but this nice Daily Motion user has uploaded it and it starts here.

DFOD · 24/04/2022 00:02

Shoestring
The Gentle Touch

HRTQueen · 24/04/2022 00:12

Happy Valley (most tense)
Line of Duty (almost as tense I still fear black Range Rovers)
Prime Suspect (gritty and often feels like I am watching a documentary)
Taggert (when Taggert was in it)
Cracker (interesting the forensic psychology)
Missing (was the most heartbreaking)

sorry can’t pick one

Oh yes. So good.
And oddly the only book in that genre from the writer. His other books are completely different.

Another vote for the Sweeney-apart from anything else it contained the best single line of dialogue in any british tv drama, from the first episode-Regan has just collared some neer do well and says-"Were the Sweeney son, and we haven't had any dinner". I just love that.
