Make me feel nauseous.

@gardenhelpneeded agree with you totally.

WhiskeyAndGinger · 18/04/2022 21:26

It is pathetic, as is the 'rainbow bridge'. Terms I had never heard of before I joined MN.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 18/04/2022 21:27

I've never called mine furbabies (just babies) but its very dramatic to say that the term makes you nauseous.

Thatswhyimacat · 18/04/2022 21:28

Yes. The only worthy thing in life is children and any woman who cares about anything else should shut up and reproduce immediately as everyone finds her so embarrassing.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 18/04/2022 21:29

See, furbabies I don't understand as they're not your babies, they're your pet
Rainbow bridge though? What's wrong with that? If something helps process grief I'm all for that.

Mummy1608 · 18/04/2022 21:31

I can't get over how some mothers call themselves their dog's mummy (as well as their kids' mummy)..like my MIL, I do really love her, but she was pregnant and gave birth three times, can't she remember what that was like?? Not the same as buying a dog lol!

SockFluffInTheBath · 18/04/2022 21:35

It’s a no from me.

CheshireCats · 18/04/2022 21:35

@WhiskeyAndGinger Rainbow bridge is widely used outside of Mumsnet.
Your post is nasty. Who are you to judge someone as pathetic because they use a word you don't like. What happened to "Be Kind"?

gardenhelpneeded · 18/04/2022 21:36

@Thatswhyimacat I think you’re reading something into my post that’s not there! Confused

No issues with people and their pets. As I said I have a few friends who have birthday parties for their dogs Grin - I think it’s quite sweet. Just the term “furbaby” itself is awful.

That’s plain nasty. Rainbow bridge is widely used online, I suppose it sounds a bit nicer than ‘dead’.
gardenhelpneeded · 18/04/2022 21:39

@CheshireCats
“Be kind” makes me feel nauseous too. Normally because it’s used by the bitchiest people I know. Not saying you are btw.

But yes the term “rainbow bridge” I think is quite sweet and I wouldn’t be rude about that as having lost a pet I know how hard it is.

OP posts:
Goldijobsandthe3bears · 18/04/2022 21:39

It’s twee and I don’t think the arbitrary ‘be kind’ applies to your opinion on words.

NannyKrampus · 18/04/2022 21:39

What business is it of yours OP! What a nasty and miserable attitude!

EthelMerman · 18/04/2022 21:40

I’m with you OP, fur babies is pretty ick; two of my pet hates are Little Man and #feeling blessed. It is indeed like a nail down a blackboard.

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 18/04/2022 21:41

Yes @gardenhelpneeded, I know exactly what you mean! Some of the vilest posters on FB randomly put up ‘Be Kind’ memes. Yes treat people well but it isn’t unkind to have an opinion on a word/phrase

gardenhelpneeded · 18/04/2022 21:41

@NannyKrampus

Well last time I looked we live in a democracy and I’m allowed an opinion on something when I have to hear it and read it. I take it you have a furbaby? Grin

OP posts:
Goldijobsandthe3bears · 18/04/2022 21:42

I once saw someone refer to their baby as ‘sexy’ on social media once!

UsernameIsNotAvailableRightNow · 18/04/2022 21:42

Not sure of your logic, I didn't give birth to my two children but I'm still their mother.
Butchyrestingface · 18/04/2022 21:42

I don't have no fur babies, I have fids. Grin

How do you like them apples, @gardenhelpneeded?

jowly · 18/04/2022 21:42

While the expression 'fur baby' is a bit nauseating, don't under estimate the depth of love we have for our pets.

I am a mother of two and while the love I have for my children is of course in a different league, the love I have for my dog is in itself massive. Intense.

For those without the privilege of motherhood then their feelings for their 'fur babies' is not to be belittled

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 18/04/2022 21:43

Fur tubes.

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 18/04/2022 21:44

It’s not the love or the people being belittled it’s the turn of phrase.

gardenhelpneeded · 18/04/2022 21:45

@joely my issue is nothing to do with feelings, it’s to do with the term itself. I would never laugh at someone loving their dog - they are wonderful pure creatures. ❤️

Oh and I have a dog and kids.

OP posts:
gardenhelpneeded · 18/04/2022 21:47

@Butchyrestingface

Fids is better actually. I think it’s the visual picture of a big furry baby that gives me the boak.

Saz12 · 18/04/2022 21:50

It always puts me in mind of films like “The Fly” - like a very hairy and pained half-baby-half-canine writhing and looking desperate. I think that’s my issue rather than everyone else’s (but that’s because everyone else is wrong...).
