Do you tip Tesco delivery drivers?

It’s just dawned on me that I don’t tip the drivers who deliver my food shop. I’ve only been doing it since January but I’ve never tipped them and now I feel a bit mean not doing so! I tip everyone else - takeaway deliveries, taxis, waiters, hairdressers etc. It just never occurred to me to tip them too as I don’t with Amazon delivery drivers etc.

AIBU, should I start giving them a few pounds tip? What does everyone else do?

No, of course not!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 18/04/2022 19:19

No. Simple rule of thumb- if they earn more than me, I don’t tip. Not difficult, due to currently on minimum wage. 🤣

WomanStanleyWoman · 18/04/2022 19:21

@Matchingcollarandcuffs

Yes and have done since I first got a delivery 16+ years ago

Am flabbergasted at you lot (but explains why they are always surprised to receive it)

Not Tesco though, Ocado or Sainsbury's

Flabbergasted? Really?
SarahBellam · 18/04/2022 19:24

Nope. I’ve already paid for delivery.

CareBearsCare · 18/04/2022 19:25

No. They aren't supposed to accept tips.

lanbro · 18/04/2022 19:27

Not monetary tips but in my business I always offer a coffee to takeaway if it's been a big delivery, or offer the bin men a bacon sandwich, just being nice and appreciating their work that enables me to do my work

charliespip · 18/04/2022 19:27

I tip 1.50-2.00.

orangeisthenewpuce · 18/04/2022 19:32

I tried to tip another supermarket delivery driver and he point blank refused saying they aren't allowed to take it, despite me promising I wouldn't tell anyone Grin

jay55 · 18/04/2022 19:36

No, especially now we have to bag it up ourselves.

They're paid a good hourly rate where I am.

FredaFox · 18/04/2022 19:37

No, you don't get the same drivers though pre pandemic my mum had 2-3 regular drivers every week who she really liked and helped her with unpacking so she did tip them at Christmas
Nowadays I'm there for her deliveries as she's more frail and it's rare we get the same person unless months apart

MurmuratingStarling · 18/04/2022 19:37

Are you having a laugh? Confused

Winterfellismyhome · 18/04/2022 19:39

Absolutely not. Cant stand tipping culture

Topseyt · 18/04/2022 19:40

No. Certainly not. I've paid the delivery charge so why would I pay for it again?

Redglitter · 18/04/2022 19:40

No for one thing I don't get big orders. Secondly the distance from van to my front door isn't long, awkward or steep and most importantly I already pay for delivery & they earn a wage for delivering. Why would I need to tip? What about the DPD guy, or the Hermes guy, do people tip them? Where does it stop

pedropony76 · 18/04/2022 19:41

No of course not. Why would you tip someone for just bringing shopping to your door?!? That's just doing your job!

I was thinking the same thing. What are you actually tipping them for when they’re simply doing their job?

ginghamstarfish · 18/04/2022 19:41

No, it's their job! Hate the whole tipping thing. It doesn't make sense, we don't tip nurses, firemen, teachers, so why on earth tip waiters, hairdressers etc?

FabFitFifties · 18/04/2022 19:43

It wouldn't enter my head. I tip waiters and hairdressers.

FanSpamTastic · 18/04/2022 19:44

DD worked as a supermarket delivery driver over lockdown. They are not allowed to accept tips. If offered she would politely refuse and explain it was not allowed.

Neverreturntoathread · 18/04/2022 19:44

Nope. Tried to once in the snow, the guy took it but seemed to find it weird.

FanSpamTastic · 18/04/2022 19:46

Also drivers get paid more than the shop staff - which is one of the reasons why she did it! That and being able to listen to music as she drove.

FloraPostePosts · 18/04/2022 19:47

No, I was told by one they can’t accept, the time I tried when a very kind person went over and above when I had a broken arm. I always offer them a can of drink, though - in summer most are grateful for one, as their cabs aren’t air conditioned.

catfunk · 18/04/2022 19:50

Do I fuck, they bring it to my downstairs door and stand there with their arms folded whilst I frantically Chuck it into ikea bags before hauling it up to my top floor flat 😂

Phos · 18/04/2022 19:58

No. I tip in restaurants if the service was good but I don't tip anyone else like hairdressers, delivery drivers, takeaway drivers, taxi drivers etc.

Beautifulmonster87 · 18/04/2022 19:59

@freshcarnation

No but I always ask delivery drivers if they need the loo
That’s really creepy!
Aprilx · 18/04/2022 20:05

Never occurred to me to tip the Tesco driver, I rarely get takeaway as hard to find any that will deliver to where I live, I don’t tip taxis these days now I pay by card I just pay the fare, I haven’t tipped at the hairdresser for years and years.
