Do you tip Tesco delivery drivers?

It’s just dawned on me that I don’t tip the drivers who deliver my food shop. I’ve only been doing it since January but I’ve never tipped them and now I feel a bit mean not doing so! I tip everyone else - takeaway deliveries, taxis, waiters, hairdressers etc. It just never occurred to me to tip them too as I don’t with Amazon delivery drivers etc.

AIBU, should I start giving them a few pounds tip? What does everyone else do?

No never! I pay a delivery fee and it's never occurred to me to tip them. Couldn't afford to anyway with the price of groceries now.

I have never tipped the Tesco delivery driver or any other delivery driver. Has never even occurred to me.

Surprised at the responses so far. I always tip a couple of £, more if it's a large order.

I looked into this for my Christmas delivery. Found a twitter post where someone asked and Tesco replied it is against the rules for staff to accept tips so customers shouldn’t put staff in that position.

Nope. I assume the big supermarkets pay a fair wage unlike pizza delivery drivers get for example so it feels different. I rarely have cash and pay for all my deliveries online anyway.

Before lock down, when they use to bring the grates in, we use to tip them a fiver

This. I'd be more inclined to tip a Tesco delivery driver than a Deliveroo driver, but Tesco staff aren't allowed to accept tips.

No of course not. Why would you tip someone for just bringing shopping to your door?!? That's just doing your job!

But I think you are mad for tipping taxi drivers and takeaway delivery people too.

You don't tip the checkout staff or your bin men? Sure there's lots of other people in low paid jobs who you come across who don't get a tip. Why just these people?

Absolutely not. They're paid by their employers aren't they, its not like they delivered it out of the goodness of their hearts.

I work at Tesco and know the delivery drivers get paid more than me😂 so no I definitely don't tip them. Plus they're not supposed to accept tips

Absolutely not - but then I don’t routinely tip. The whole tipping thing is really odd - why do we tip some service providers and not others? Taxi drivers and hairdressers earn good incomes, shop assistants don’t - why tip the former but not the latter for example?

No, I never tip Amazon or DHL drivers or grocery delivery drivers but I don’t think they do anything unusual for me and I use their service very occasionally.
