To not have bought eggs for DSCs?

eggsbenedict82 · 17/04/2022 12:16

Long story short, DSD (10yo) and DSS (8yo) are being dropped off here later by DH's ex. The whole visit was arranged with short notice, and only briefly rushed past me, as DH knows I have been busy preparing Easter for our 3yo DS.
This morning, after DS had opened his eggs, DH asked where the DSCs eggs are so they can be set up for later.
I told him I had not bought any, and when he got indignant I said it's as simple as they're not my DCs, they're his, it's not my fault he's waited until Easter day, when no shops are open. Not my responsibility, but as per usual, I've been cast as the wicked stepmother - happy Easter, hey? HmmAIBU

@eggsbenedict82
I think when you have married a man with children you know there are special times when you both have to be mindful of the fact that you are blended family.
You could have picked up eggs for your step children when you bought your Childs egg, your husband could have done so himself .(both a bit thoughtless)
I Pity the children who will feel left out by a father and step mother who are thoughtless.

CandyLeBonBon · 17/04/2022 16:50

You did choose to have a baby though?

WonderfulYou · 17/04/2022 16:50

I'm not going over it again but yes. Creepy.
Intrusive. Butting her way into the 2nd family.

WTAF!!

Some people have serious issues if they think someone including their child’s siblings are creepy.

nevergoesaway · 17/04/2022 16:50

Very good OP, well played 👏 You can give it up now, the cracks are beginning to show 🥚

DuckPuddledJemima · 17/04/2022 16:50

Do you actually know what a cost of living crisis is? Because that sentence along with a planned Easter egg hunt for a 3 year old who wouldn't know it was Easter without being told, implies you don't.
And those kids you ignored out of spite are your DSs siblings. I hope you raise your precious angel to be kinder then you have been.
It wouldn't of taken a few minutes to just make sure THE CHILDREN had something at a place which is THEIR home too.

thesausagebros · 17/04/2022 16:51

Whether they were originally visiting today or not, surely if you buy one child an egg, you buy for their siblings too?! YABU

Moochio · 17/04/2022 16:51

@CandyLeBonBon

You did choose to have a baby though?
Do did their dad
BurbageBrook · 17/04/2022 16:51

YABU - how mean not to buy chocolate eggs for kids. I'm sure there are a million other ways you could have made your point about not doing wifework without intentionally leaving out two children. Low blow.

Moochio · 17/04/2022 16:51

@CandyLeBonBon

You did choose to have a baby though?
So did dad
Moochio · 17/04/2022 16:52

Doesn't mean she has to provide the hallowed hollow eggs

BurbageBrook · 17/04/2022 16:52

Also if you wanted to make a point about wifework you should have bought ZERO eggs. To buy just for your child is deeply toxic... shame on you.

hedgehogger1 · 17/04/2022 16:52

I hope this is a wind up I really do. Poor kids.

kitcat15 · 17/04/2022 16:52

Not got time to prepare for their easter as well as your DSs?! .....fucks sake ....you just needed to buy a couple more eggs🙄... obviously you are very resentful of your DSC

WanderlyWagonInWales · 17/04/2022 16:52

Just think about this OP, while you and your DH are busy debating which if you is right, your stepchildren will still be without eggs when they arrive. I hope you’re both proud of yourselves - the poor kids :(

Moochio · 17/04/2022 16:53

Another one mumshaming OP for wanting to have fun with her child
IncompleteSenten · 17/04/2022 16:53

You have a vagina which means all things child related are your responsibility.
The children didn't come out of yours so you're wrong. In everything. All the time.

I mean, they have 2 actual parents but it's your job.
The father has Easter eggs actually in the house that his mummy gave him but you should still split your child's treats with his children or sort it for him with no notice because he can't be expected to a) sort shit out for his kids or b) share his mummy's presents like a big boy.

FFS. 🙄
@Blossomtoes We're in the Channel Islands.

Liberation Day is a local bank holiday celebrating the end of German occupation during WWII. It's a big deal here, lots of celebrations go on and most businesses close for the day.

@Constantcrayfish I'm told St Peter Grand Marche was stripped bare of Easter goods by last Saturday!

(Sorry for further derailing, everyone else).
Yep. Although I went to Iceland St. Peter yesterday and they had some eggs. (Another channel islander here)

Blossomtoes · 17/04/2022 16:53

I chose to get pregnant??

Didn’t you?

CandyLeBonBon · 17/04/2022 16:53

Well unless men can gestate babies, and bodily autonomy was not a thing, then yes, she chose to have a baby. Her body, her choice etc.

HELLITHURT · 17/04/2022 16:54

Exactly!
PoshWatchShitShoes · 17/04/2022 16:56

Yes, he's their father and he's mostly responsible for ensuring they have Easter eggs, but you did sign up to being a step-mother when getting together with him.

You sound mean and petty. You hardly need to put much effort in to "setting up easter". You could have easily bought them an egg each. If your OH wanted to do a hunt for them, then that's on him to organise.

Anonymoussssss · 17/04/2022 16:57

I'll say it again...you're an ass!

eggsbenedict82 · 17/04/2022 16:57

@CandyLeBonBon

You did choose to have a baby though?
It takes two to tango - if DH isn't willing to help me with Easter preparations for his current child and previous children then that isn't my issue nor my fault for choosing to get pregnant by a man who already had kids.
OP posts:
MissMogwai · 17/04/2022 16:58

You are both unreasonable.
Even if the step children weren't coming today, wouldn't they have eggs from you and their dad anyway?

Why would they only have them from the parent they are with on Easter Sunday?

I think yes, your husband should have remembered but also you could have got them an egg when you bought your sons.

It all sounds childish and petty.

CandyLeBonBon · 17/04/2022 16:58

Oh please!! Hmm
