What do you like to spend your fun money on?

Bags, beauty, travel, clothes, shoes, sport, home improvement or anything else?

I don't spend much on beauty but would love to have a monthly massage and nail appointment. Not fussed on brows or Botox.

I also place more value on travel after the last couple of years and intend to save more to enable a bit more travel.

Clothes, shoes and bags are bought but usually second hand.

Bikes…. and all the lovely things that go with them. Currently training for an off road bike packing race so I’ve had to buy yet another bike plus sleeping bag / bivvy bag / camping mattress and a set of bike bags to carry all my kit in. Just have a stove to get as I’m not sure I can face waking up in a hedge with no hot drink to get me going! Mostly buy second hand stuff.

I used to save and overpay the mortgage. But since Covid I’ve thought fuck it and spent a bit more on me - as someone else said up thread “because I’m worth it”. Not even remotely interested in clothes, bags, nails etc and anyway I look like a tramp so it would be wasted on me 🤷‍♀️

dementedma · 17/04/2022 10:10

Books, gin, plants for the garden. Occasional massage. Savings

MargosKaftan · 17/04/2022 10:17

Books. Then some more.Make up. Bags. Clothes. Meals out and babysitters to make this happen.

These will be the things I cut back on this year as things get tighter.

Scottishskifun · 17/04/2022 10:17

Travel, garden improvements and visits to softplay.
We live very cheaply otherwise as DH had a number of redundancies due to industry downturn so now we always make sure we can survive on 1 salary.

Mydogisagentleman · 17/04/2022 10:22

Cigarettes and dog grooming.
My haircut costs me £15 every 6-8 weeks. My darling boy is £40 every month.

LakieLady · 17/04/2022 10:25

Books! I read 2-3 books pw. And currently, renovating/redecorating.

Some on clothes/shoes, but not huge amounts, hairdressing approx £10pw (cut & colour every 6 weeks), a small amount on skincare/cosmetics, maybe £30-40 a month on socialising.

GeoffLynton · 17/04/2022 10:28

Plants. All the plants.

The rest I blow on coke and hookers.

chipsnmayo · 17/04/2022 10:30

I was a solo mum for a number of years so money was tight but I aways ensured I spent money on myself. It wasnt a lot, the odd lunch with friends, a couple of pices of nice clothes every year, hair cut and my swim membership

I also took DD out for dinner from time to time, the cinema, some extra circular activites and we could never afford to go abroad so I use to save up for a weekend away in the summer.

Sofiegiraffe · 17/04/2022 10:35

Clothes for DC, clothes for me (rarely), hairdressers, make up, savings for holiday, car problems (needing new tyres etc), swimming lessons for DC, eating out. That sort of stuff.

Sofiegiraffe · 17/04/2022 10:36

Oh and a gym membership that gets embarrassingly little use. I need to step up my game or just cancel it!

bertieb7 · 17/04/2022 10:38

Nice dinners, trips away and my stocks and shares ISA

Crikeyalmighty · 17/04/2022 10:51

Coffees out, car lease, propping up my young adult son who works but earns average money and lives in London , the odd splurge in TK Maxx , odd bits of make up to top up and highlights3 times a year, couple of European breaks a year, 1 city around 5 days , one beach around 10 days. We eat very well and I like cooking. . Spend very little on clothes, trips out and don’t have any under 18s.

MargeSimpson79 · 17/04/2022 11:01

Holidays (we go to Florida every year so expensive) Eating out or takeaways usually a couple of times a week - we just really enjoy going out to eat. Stuff for the house as we’re part way through total redecoration after having a large extension done a couple of years ago.

Not that fussed about clothes and make up etc. I buy too much off Vinted though! And only get my hair done every 3 months or so.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 17/04/2022 11:01

Gym membership, cheap gym wear, stupidly expensive running shoes, assorted recovery/rehab items and treatments, cheap clothes in smaller sizes, food, vitamins, KT tape, orthotics - it's expensive trying to not get more disabled, even when the NHS spends thousands on keeping me vaguely functional.

Getting my eyebrows done once a month.

Other than that, things for the house.

abigailsnan · 17/04/2022 11:13

My nails every month and a good haircut every two months even though my hair is very long and I wear it up I feel a good cut is necessary.
Every month money into a saving account for holiday with my DD every year we love our mum & DD time together.

NotMeekNotObedient · 17/04/2022 11:16

Good food (say cheese & bread from the farmers market)

Eating out at nice resturants

Holidays

Massage

Things are tighter here and it looks like it's going to get worse but if I have any disposable that is what I will be spending it on.

I'm in the (admittedly) privileged position to consider a haircut and make up fairly essential.

Chely · 17/04/2022 11:26

Spend mostly on the kids, don't have much disposable these days.
I usually treat myself to clothes if I get birthday money, only replace knackered things the rest of the year.
The dog costs us over 2k a year (basics and the odd toy) but she's part of the family so count that as essential. I'm not getting another dog!

shiningstar2 · 17/04/2022 11:32

Before Covid holidays and eating out ...all to a careful budget. These days helping dd_s family. Maths tuition for dgs clothes for rapidly growing teenage gd at moment. Not sexist. This is what they both need and want at the moment. Have assured dgd that she will have the tuition option (or equivalent? if/when the need arises. This is our choice. We are not privileged. The choice regarding dgc mean other luxuries are on the back burner at the moment. Totally happy with this.

Flaunch · 17/04/2022 11:34

Hobbies - gardening, metal detecting, travel, my hair.

shiningstar2 · 17/04/2022 11:38

Oh and also the one luxury I would really hate to give up ..roots and highlights once a month. 😀

Iamclearlyamug · 17/04/2022 11:41

Holidays, eating out/ordering in, and mine and DDs 2 horses - never anything spare after that 🤦‍♂️

Kitkat151 · 17/04/2022 11:47

holidays And mini breaks....I go away at least once a month ....sometimes twice

LindaEllen · 17/04/2022 11:53

We always spend our disposable income on takeaways, books and meals out (and then wonder why we're fat).

If we for some reason have a lot of extra income we will make a bigger purchase, like a tele, laptop, phone etc.

We're lucky in that our house is relatively cheap to run and we both earn a decent wage, as well as having success with crypto investment, so disposable income isn't an issue for us.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/04/2022 12:03

@desiringonlychild2022

Oh and I have an extremely spoilt hamster but that costs a few £ at most per month at most! Though I recently spent £90 on holiday boarding plus a Uber to get him there cos it was hailing!
@desiringonlychild2022

I love the idea of a spoilt hamster, I am imagining him drinking posh green juice in the Uber while having a hamster head massage.

EssexLioness · 17/04/2022 12:09

I’m not a big spender so most of my spare cash goes into savings. However, I also spend on hair cut/ colour and the occasional bit of make up (don’t wear that often do it lasts for ages). I don’t bother with Botox, nails, massages etc though do like a nice face cream, face masks etc. if we are on holiday I will sometimes book in for a massage which is a lovely treat.
I don’t buy clothes, shoes etc most months but when I do I can often spend a fair bit on that or a nice piece of jewellery. Otherwise I have a Les Mills subscription, Freddie’s Flowers twice a month and a coffee and cake/ meal out maybe every month or two.I also buy the odd kindle book
