Where does your disposal income go?

What do you like to spend your fun money on?

Bags, beauty, travel, clothes, shoes, sport, home improvement or anything else?

I don't spend much on beauty but would love to have a monthly massage and nail appointment. Not fussed on brows or Botox.

I also place more value on travel after the last couple of years and intend to save more to enable a bit more travel.

Clothes, shoes and bags are bought but usually second hand.

OP posts:
FourTeaFallOut · 17/04/2022 07:48

Off the mortgage/treating the kids/travel.

TheBigDilemma · 17/04/2022 07:50

Days away at the coast and countryside and eating out.

ExcitedRabbit · 17/04/2022 07:51

My disposal income is put into two pots at the moment:
“Savings” which realistically means either buying stuff for the house (currently garden) or putting money aside for a future house project (bathroom + kitchen)
Monthly fun bucks which is just socialising, skin care, and the odd takeaway. Very occasionally buy new clothes. Am in desperate need of new bras so should probably spend some of next months cash on that!

DP has his own fun bucks and he spends it mostly on his various vices

grotsnags · 17/04/2022 07:51

with the economy has it is, I'm holding on to the fast majority of it.

ExcitedRabbit · 17/04/2022 07:51

Oh and we booked a holiday abroad this year first time since Covid!

ConfusedByDesign · 17/04/2022 07:52

Fuel, going out, take aways

Beckstar0 · 17/04/2022 07:54

Takeaways, art stuff, chocolate … whatever I fancy really! I’m not into nails or beauty products, I only get my hair done when I really need to.
Hoping to travel to USA this year so a few grand will need to go on that

Troublesometooth · 17/04/2022 07:54

Depends what you class as “fun money” really.

Kids activities, days out, take seats etc. All non essential I guess but part of our routines.

Kids clothes I like spending more than average on. Not loads or really fancy labels. But higher end high street. Although I do buy and sell a lot second hand.

lollipoprainbow · 17/04/2022 07:55

Heating , eating and fuel.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 17/04/2022 07:56

I’m not counting savings, that’s not fun, goes out the same as mortgage / bills for us.

Totally agree about investing in garden space of you can, we had this chat yesterday - you basically create a holiday / chill space for the year in your own home.

desiringonlychild2022 · 17/04/2022 07:57

I also overpay the mortgage by an extra £1k every month in the hope that I can afford a bigger flat one day.

Missey85 · 17/04/2022 07:57

My treat each month is Netflix and internet don't really care about clothes or makeup I also have a very spoilt 🐈

MintJulia · 17/04/2022 07:57

At the moment, saving for a new roof Grin Nearly there.

Normally, outings/school trips for DS, savings, then clothes for me because I didn't buy any during covid at all, and recently realised I look a total mess. Then a holiday.

I do my own nails, brows, basic grooming.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 17/04/2022 07:58

My garden. Just moved and it had nothing in it. So been working on that.
Other than that spare money that u spend on me is on books or audible credits.

Imlovinglife · 17/04/2022 08:00

Why do people start threads like this?

Obviously there will be answers covering basically everything that can be bought. Plus chippy answers around "Well, I don't have any spare money"

So why can't OP just imagine a long list of things on which money can be spent rather than post a thread?

AnybodyAnywhere · 17/04/2022 08:01

Live music. I’ve loved going to see bands since I was 14 (in 1969 😂) and will continue until I physically can’t do it anymore.

GnomeDePlume · 17/04/2022 08:01

Allotment: there always seems to be space for just one more tree. Then there's seeds, tools, compost.

I have recently got back into sewing so fabric, thread etc plus I bought a new sewing machine as my old one gave up the ghost. I am trying to avert my eyes when I see more expensive sewing machines.

Gufo · 17/04/2022 08:02

The majority goes on kids' activities - I'm happy I don't need to say no to any of these right now.

Bikesbikesbikes · 17/04/2022 08:02

Bikes and plants 🪴

Why not, you could say that about anything anyone posts if going by that trail of thought.
CJay81 · 17/04/2022 08:03

It's getting less and less but what I do have is spent on the kids, basically after school activities and the occaissional day out. Coffee out with dp or friend once a week, take away once a month. I try to stick a little bit aside if I can for a yearly holiday but that's going to be a struggle now. Probably just a few days somewhere cheap next year. As for beauty treatments and nice clothes, I'd rather go without them than have the kids go without their activities and fun.

shabbalabba · 17/04/2022 08:07

In order...

Savings/investments
Holidays
Eating out
Clothes etc

speakout · 17/04/2022 08:08

I save.
I am not into stuff, I like a simple lifestyle. My clothes are mosttly from charity shops, bags, shoes, nails bring me little joy.
I do spend money on yoga classes, 5 or 6 a week, but I look on exercise as an essential, and I practice at a council run centre, so inexpensive.
I like having the security of savings, knowing I can help my children and can cope with any emergency that needs cash.

AuntieMarys · 17/04/2022 08:09

Gym, personal trainer, hair.
Eating out.
Short breaks.
And yes, I do give monthly to charity.

SpringGeraniums · 17/04/2022 08:15
