Supermarket when you’re covid positive

Not to start a bunfight, I just want to know. Would you go supermarket shopping when you were testing positive?

just had covid...didnt dream of going to a supermarket while testing positive...thanks to selfish individuals that do go shopping is why so many people are going down with it. I'm triple jabbed and took me a full 2 weeks to feel better...Still tested positive 10 days after initial test...didn't go near shops!

knowinglesseveryday · 15/04/2022 23:22

No

Jalepenojello · 15/04/2022 23:25

I did. Wore a mask and rushed through.

backatschool · 16/04/2022 00:47

@Choopi

Lateral flow tests aren’t free in the uk any longer. Oh Blush Where I live we have always just bought them in aldi or wherever it never occurred to me that someone would think there would be no way to tell because they had to put their hand in their pocket. Culture clash I think Smile
Same here. Also not in the U.K. and tests have never been free here, we've always bought them and people test all the time.

@LeedsCastle so, some people were selfish so therefore screw everyone? If they'd shut off all but essential purchases then plenty more companies would have gone under and further massive government debt incurred for support. Plenty of the rest of us also had to go in - and plenty of those who didn't, were at home in fear because of job loss, or trying to work while home schooling, or on furlough with 80% of wage not covering the basics.

I didn't have the budget or time to purchase most of the things on your list - which, by the way, I wonder how you managed to learn so much about in-between scanning 2000 fully sealed packages in a day - but are you saying that buying DIY materials to fix things that you couldn't get someone to help with is bad? Or hairdressing scissors? After my first attempt at a lockdown child haircut with kitchen shears, hairdressing scissors were probably one of the first things I bought.

Even before the lockdown, people going to the gym with colds were grim. Now we may not have the covid drama of earlier, but it's even more rude.

garlictwist · 16/04/2022 01:54

I had to as no other way of getting food. I wore a mask and went at 7am. The minium spend for online shopping is too high.

Dancer47 · 16/04/2022 02:12

No, I wouldn't - and not because any government tells me not to - it's because I know I could make someone ill.

Poppins2016 · 16/04/2022 03:09

@Choopi @backatschool

Out of interest, how much are lateral flow tests (per single or per pack)?

Colleagues who live abroad have mentioned the ease of PCR testing compared to the UK (also that they're much cheaper if you need to pay for a PCR for travel - about 20% of the UK cost), but I didn't think to ask about LFTs...

SquirrelG · 16/04/2022 04:20

Definitely not.

DockOTheBay · 16/04/2022 04:28

Loads of people will be going shopping with covid but not knowing they have it, as people are no longer testing. So I don't see what difference it makes it one more person goes when they know they have it. Personally I wouldn't because online shopping is easy to come by but if it wasn't, then I would go to the super market

LilQueenie · 16/04/2022 04:31

yes wearing a mask if there was no other way. We can't all live on takeaways and online food deliveries have to be a certain amount to get crap delivered when stuff is out of stock. I have done and no I don't feel guilty because I didn't want my child to starve.

It won't matter in a couple weeks anyway. All restrictions are being lifted. If you didn't do it before 2020 for those living with weak immune systems that a common cold could kill don't become a saint about it now.

I would follow the recommendation to isolate for 5 days. If I had no obvious symptoms after that but was still testing positive then yes I would but not if I had symptoms still. This is the guidance I have been given by the school I work in too.

That's exactly what we do where I live, only we have to isolate for 7 days. After that, as long as you feel well, there is no need to test, but of course if you still have symptoms you stay home.

BritWifeInUSA · 16/04/2022 05:11

I’d have no choice. Unless my husband goes but if I had COVID he likely would too. Maybe I went with COVID? I wouldn’t even known. I’ve had one test in my life and that was to go on holiday. I wouldn’t even test if I had symptoms.

How is it selfish to need to eat?

Half the people in the supermarket will have covid unknowingly- time to get a grip!

You lot that believe 'it's so selfish' shouid all be testing every day of you believe that , bet your not!

A supermarket is well ventilated and if iou wear a mask it's safe. Use common sense.

@Manekinek0

I have colleagues who have worked whilst positive because they can't afford the time off. It's a privileged position to be in to be able to make the decision of staying home.
Absolutely agree, it also amazes me posters who are saying "Just place an order!" - what about delivery costs? What if someone hasn't got the money to place an order big enough and just needs a few bits to get them by?

My DH has just had Covid - he isolated as asked. However, that's our choice, and we were able to manage as he works from home and myself and our adult/teen children were able to carry on as normal. I wouldn't dream of judging someone for not being in the same position, and having to make a decision to go to the shop to feed themselves Confused

SookieHouseboat · 16/04/2022 08:45

@LilQueenie has had her post deleted, (I’m guessing because of the name calling part) but the overall sentiment was heartfelt and I still agree.

I have to say I agree, I might not agree with it being normalised, but that’s exactly what is happening now.

Time to wise up.

Half the people in a supermarket, or any shop, that’s EVERYONE in there, staff and customers will have covid now, perhaps without knowing. Better to just get on with life.

It’s like any other illness now that would knock anyone with a compromised immunity sideways.

That’s the reality.

LampLighter414 · 16/04/2022 09:11

@SookieHouseboat yep, the vast majority of people are not testing anymore for standard sniffles and coughs as the tests aren't free anymore. Myself included. If I feel well enough then I'll continue my life as normal.

Seconded!

AllOfUsAreDead · 16/04/2022 09:18

No I wouldn't, but this is how illnesses spread, people who would and don't give a shit. It's why norovirus is spreading around now, people who don't care. They are pricks, but there's tons of them now sadly.
