Supermarket when you’re covid positive

Not to start a bunfight, I just want to know. Would you go supermarket shopping when you were testing positive?

OP posts:
whatuser · 15/04/2022 20:12

Yes

DietrichandDiMaggio · 15/04/2022 20:21

I didn’t go out until I’d had two negative tests 24 hours apart. I was still testing positive until day 12 I think (and still too unwell to work so signed off).

Was this before April 1st, when the guidance changed, in which case you were supposed to isolate for 10 days anyway if you hadn't had 2 negative tests, whereas now the NHS advises to isolate for 5 days. Presumably as the OP is asking today they mean what would you do under current guidelines.

Also if you are feeling ill, then you probably aren't going to go out, but if like lots of people , you don't feel particularly unwell would you still have stayed at home for 12 days (not talking about food shopping particularly, just getting on with life generally)?

atarevelwithsomerebels · 15/04/2022 20:23

Yes I did have to go once but purposely chose when it was very, very quiet (practically empty) and wore a mask. I needed to go so just applied common sense to keep the risk to a minimum.

As others have said in many places you need a couple of days notice to book a supermarket delivery or click and collect.

But anyway things aren’t quite so simple as a few months ago with the ‘selfish people out with covid!’ posts. Lateral flow tests are no longer provided for free, many can’t afford them, most can’t afford to stay off work for every cold and flu symptom going.

Theworkhouse · 15/04/2022 20:33

@Goldijobsandthe3bears

I wouldn't go to the supermarket if I knew I was positive and no, of course I don't test daily. What a stupid question.

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 15/04/2022 20:38

How rude @theworkhouse 😂 You could be there secretly spreading covid if you don’t test daily and you know it hence the defensive response

Theworkhouse · 15/04/2022 20:46

@Goldijobsandthe3bears

The conversation is about knowingly going out positive. I'm not obsessed with covid, in fact I'm happily carrying on as normal. But I do have a few tests left as I have very elderly parents so would test if I had symptoms. I think what you have incorrectly assumed is defensiveness is actually frustration at people who can't follow a thread and try to be clever.

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 15/04/2022 20:55

I do apologise for not reading 13 pages of back and forth for you given how easily frustrated you get.

Darbs76 · 15/04/2022 21:11

No, as I wouldn’t spread covid intentionally no matter what the rules are

Bpdqueen · 15/04/2022 21:30

@SookieHouseboat we don't get paid the first 3 days

Patchbatch · 15/04/2022 21:32

I suspect a lot of people have no idea if they're positive anyway, someone who goes shopping knowing they are will probably be more mindful of hygiene etc and being careful than someone that has no clue (i won't be paying for tests so no judgement). I would if not too poorly, in an ideal world everyone would stay in when even a bit poorly with anything to limit the spread but its not really feasible.

Incognitomum11 · 15/04/2022 21:33

Yes, it was always one of the exceptions to the rules

Dutchesss · 15/04/2022 21:38

I'm not testing anymore so I wouldn't know. I would go out if I'm well enough even if I had mild symptoms.

I mostly do online shopping though.

mnnewbie111 · 15/04/2022 21:47

Yes, but then im also going to work as have no choice. Mask wearing and distancing but not hiding sway

MsRinky · 15/04/2022 22:00

I mean, I already knew how selfish and stupid a lot of people are from the way they vote. I do wonder about the overlap of people who complained about draconian covid legislation and people who are now "well, it's not illegal, so I now have every right to infect vulnerable people so I can do what the fuck I like". Shows that you can't hope that many people will do the right thing unless they fear the consequences.

I've been positive since last Friday. I tested because I'd had contact (yes, I still make use of the app) and had symptoms. I've missed birthday drinks with friends and three gigs I'd already paid for, and I'm bored staying at home and eating random stuff out of the back of the cupboards, but I have because it's the right thing to do.

Good for you.

Some people don't have the luxury of a stockpile of food, nor can they afford the minimum order for an online shop. Some people don't even have the internet. Some people don't have friends or family. Guess what? They need to eat, too.

How dare you call people selfish and stupid for needing to eat.

browneyes77 · 15/04/2022 22:11

I wouldn’t no. I’d shop online, which I sometimes do anyway.

My parents are elderly, my mom has a lung disease and my sister in law is recovering from Breast cancer. so I’ve always been super careful anyway and continue to do so.

I can still do LFT for a while because I stocked up on the free tests before they stopped being free.

MsRinky · 15/04/2022 22:18

The other thing my postive test has stopped my doing is my volunteer work. I've been delivering food parcels and nappies via the local food bank all through the pandemic to people isolating.

Many people on this thread who have said their right to carry on as normal overrides any societal considerations aren't poor or isolated or desperate, they're just bored with having restrictions on their lives and don't give a shit about other people.

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 15/04/2022 22:21

And you’re still doing that now?

Beautiful3 · 15/04/2022 22:31

My husbands place of employment tells all staff with covid, thag they still have to go into work. The governments rules have relaxed now. No-one has to isolate anymore.

Katya213 · 15/04/2022 22:36

Sorry, I’m skint and I’m not paying £6 for a test when I can hardly feed my child. I’m going to that supermarket, covid or not.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 15/04/2022 22:38

I don't test now but if I did and it was positive I'd have to go to work.

Covid now counts as sickness and we will be disciplined for it.

In the course of my working day I go to shops to get lunch etc. So I guess, yes I would go out and about. I'm not office based so would technically be out all day.

WhatTheJeffIsThis · 15/04/2022 22:46

Yes I would without a second thought. I'd probably wear a mask though. But yes I would go. Life has to go on. Nurses are going to work testing positive and so are most industries

Abraxan · 15/04/2022 22:52

@Goldijobsandthe3bears

So everyone who wouldn’t still tests daily then?
I don't test daily and never did.

I did text twice weekly, advised by school. I know test weekly and also additional tests if I have symptoms. I am eligible for free LFTs due to my health condition/medication.

I only ever tested daily when I was a close contact, when it was advised.

Luckily both dh and I are advised and paid to stay at home when covid positive. Both workplaces (mine is a school, dh is a solicitors firm) ask covid positive staff to work from home, on full pay, or paid sickness (full pay) if ill and unable to work with it.

Apatosaurus20 · 15/04/2022 22:52

Absolutely not, Id worry I could give it to someone vulnerable

HomeprideSaucy · 15/04/2022 22:58

No, I really wouldn't
