Supermarket when you’re covid positive

Not to start a bunfight, I just want to know. Would you go supermarket shopping when you were testing positive?

@AllOfUsAreDead

No I wouldn't, but this is how illnesses spread, people who would and don't give a shit. It's why norovirus is spreading around now, people who don't care. They are pricks, but there's tons of them now sadly.
And that’s just it.

Coronavirus is just a.n.other virus now..

Like a cold
Norovirus etc

Ain’t nothing special ‘bout the Rona any more.

Fizbosshoes · 16/04/2022 09:54

I think the difficulty is that a lot of the symptoms of covid are fairly general, and not all make you feel very unwell. I believe chicken pox and norovirus are actually quite contagious before symptoms emerge but people don't get shouted at for spreading chicken pox before they knew they had it?Confused but they have quite clear symptoms where you are advised to stay at home.

Covid symptoms seem to cover a host of things from minor ailments like a sore throat to very deadly symptoms and everything in between. If testing is not routinely available, I'm not sure it's reasonable to ask everyone to not go out every time they had a headache/sore throat/stuffy nose etc. I get sore throats a lot. I've had covid once and tested twice a week for over a year (when it was requested by school) or more frequently if I had symptoms or was visiting older/vulnerable people

This. As I said up thread I've got quite bad hay fever so if I stayed in every time I had covid symptoms I'd never go out as many of them are the same as my hay fever.

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 16/04/2022 11:23

@Scottishnewmum

Never. Imagine you gave it to someone who was immunocompromised or who had a child with cancer or something. You'd have caused their death through your own selfishness.
Did you think like this before covid? When you got your run of the mill cold symptoms, did you stay at home? Or did you carry on as usual?

Because you're just have likely to have passed that on and killed someone then too.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/04/2022 11:25

No

KarmaStar · 16/04/2022 11:48

Which way is the voting?Yabu for going shopping with covid?or Yabu for not going?
But although I won't vote as unsure what you're asking to vote for,no I would not go.

7eleven · 16/04/2022 11:51

I’m currently the only person on a packed train, wearing a mask. That’s the bigger problem I think. There has got to be at least one person on the train who is positive, whether they know it or not.

Beckstar0 · 16/04/2022 12:06

Well when I had Covid I was too poorly to walk up the cunting stairs never mind trail around shops.

If I felt able to I would though

timestheyarechanging · 16/04/2022 13:03

Yes I would but I wouldn't have tested

KosherDill · 16/04/2022 13:15

@MsRinky

I mean, I already knew how selfish and stupid a lot of people are from the way they vote. I do wonder about the overlap of people who complained about draconian covid legislation and people who are now "well, it's not illegal, so I now have every right to infect vulnerable people so I can do what the fuck I like". Shows that you can't hope that many people will do the right thing unless they fear the consequences.

I've been positive since last Friday. I tested because I'd had contact (yes, I still make use of the app) and had symptoms. I've missed birthday drinks with friends and three gigs I'd already paid for, and I'm bored staying at home and eating random stuff out of the back of the cupboards, but I have because it's the right thing to do.

Well said.

ExMachinaDeus · 16/04/2022 13:23

Usually, for me, a "run of the mill" cold leads to bronchitis, breathing compromise and usually at least 4 days in bed, when even thinking of getting up to go to the supermarket is unthinkable. If I feel symptoms of a "run of the mill" cold coming on, I go to the nearest food sop & stock up, because I know I won't be able to leave the house.

Mostly because I am too unwell (just a "run of the mill" cold, mind you) but also because I know I am full of virus and shedding it like billy-o. And I don't want to pass it on.

If I had something like d and v, a bug or such, or something like chicken pox, yes totally because I wouldn't want others getting it.

Well there is…you don’t get long cold clinics do you? Or long novovius clinics. Ffs, use some common sense

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 16/04/2022 15:34

@stayathomer I don't mean something that's uncomfortable for you (of course you're staying at home with D&V, Norovirus... because you feel too ill to leave), just a cold.

Did you ever go out with a cold?

LuckySantangelo35 · 16/04/2022 15:34

@TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits
Covid is different to a cold. Are you not aware of long covid?

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 16/04/2022 15:37

@ExMachinaDeus I'm unsure what your issue is with me calling it a run of the mill cold? What else do you call it? A cold?

I'm sorry that colds make you feel so crappy, but that's not what I meant.

There will be plenty of people on this thread who've gone to work, shopping, out with friends.. with colds, coughs, stomach upset.
Those people had just the same risk of passing on that illness and killing someone back then, but the outrage only exists now.

I know covid is different to a cold, I wasn't comparing them.

I'm asking of the posters jumping down the throats of those they disagree with if they've ever left the house with a cold; as, doing that, could kill someone immunocompromised/on chemo/frail.. so they could well have caused someone harm - but as it wasn't covid, that seems to be okay.

LuckySantangelo35 · 16/04/2022 16:00

@TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits

Well you’re comparing it now aren’t you, asking if people would go out with a cold? Why are you talking about colds on a covid thread?

Colds and covid are completely different things.

Someone might go out with a cold, if they have to. I personally wouldn’t go out for drinks with mates for example if I had a really bad cold as I wouldn’t want them to catch it. Nor would I go visiting people etc.

People should not go out with covid. It can leave people with long covid. The risk may be small but that’s no consolation to those whose live have been affected by it.

Is that really so hard to grasp?

Post viral syndrome has always been a thing. You can have lingering symptoms and ongoing, long term complications after any number of viruses. Things like rheumatoid arthritis can be triggered by the flu.

So no, Covid isn't in any way special or unique in that regard.

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 16/04/2022 16:06

@LuckySantangelo35 Try reading my post again.

It's really not something that needs explaining three times.

Posters are complaining that going out with covid could kill someone.

Going out with other cold/cough viruses could just as well kill someone too - but no one was up in arms saying 'if you have a cold and go out you're selfish, you must stay home...'
Suggestions of staying off work with a cold would be met with incredulous looks.

Different illnesses, same consequences to those who're immunocompromised/frail/young.. but before covid, no one gave a shit about that.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 16/04/2022 16:09

Yes I would. Up until I chatted to my sister last week I would have said no but then she told me this:- she works for Sainsbury's and staff have been told they should go into work even if they have covid. They can only stay off if they are too ill to work. Sainsbury's are treating covid the same as a cold so why should customers do otherwise?

Exactly this.

I’ll be swerving Sainsburys from now on then! That’s a bloody shame I do like Sainsburys. Been meaning to try Aldi anyway. Harrumph.

I’m afraid you might find that Aldi have the same policy.
