Supermarket when you’re covid positive

Not to start a bunfight, I just want to know. Would you go supermarket shopping when you were testing positive?

When I clicked on this thread I assumed it would be a resurrected thread from 2020.

Now that tests aren't free anymore, are you never going to leave the house in case you have covid?

Ridiculous hyperbole.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 15/04/2022 19:23
@PinkSparklyPussyCat I'm talking about people saying either that they have gone out knowingly with Covid, those who openly state that they don't care anyway and those who even seem proud of it.

They've been posting in that vein for months and I pity the people who have to associate with them on any level. Their previous posts indicate that they're not the sort of people I'd want to engage with.

You have persistent hayfever. You're not saying that you just don't care.
I might be a bit oversensitive as I’ve been told on here that I shouldn’t go out in case people are worried!

ilovesooty · 15/04/2022 19:25

@PinkSparklyPussyCat that would be daft. You can't help having a chronic health condition but I can see why you might be feeling a bit sensitive! Persistent hayfever is miserable enough as it is.

PurpleDaisies · 15/04/2022 19:26

Literally nobody is saying anything like that.

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 15/04/2022 19:28

I don’t test so I wouldn’t know.

CowboyFromHell · 15/04/2022 19:29

The narrow emphasis on covid, and only covid, makes no sense to me.

If you’re that bothered about passing on a (usually mild) virus to people in a supermarket how do you square this with the air pollution your journey to the supermarket caused? Or the air miles of some of your purchases that contribute to climate change?

If you’re that hypersensitive to how your actions negatively impact on others you’d surely be stressing about all these other impacts. But in my experience those overly focused on covid risks have this blinkered view where only covid matters. And that feels hypocritical to me. (Not that I’m perfect by any means re climate change.)

Of course they aren't but some people will say anything to promote their "Look at me - I don't care" agenda.
Goldijobsandthe3bears · 15/04/2022 19:30

Very true @CowboyFromHell, I also see all the discarded masks/gloves etc and shudder to think what it’s cost the planet.

ilovesooty · 15/04/2022 19:33

Anyone with decency disposes of masks considerately.

Anyone with decency tries not to infect other people if they suspect they might be unwell.

AngeloMysterioso · 15/04/2022 19:34

I did. I went late on a Monday evening when it was virtually empty, wore an FFP3 mask, only touched the stuff I was buying and went through self checkout. We needed food, plus formula and nappies for my baby.

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 15/04/2022 19:36

I’ve seen loads on the street, and it isn’t just them it’s also the ones that have been ‘disposed of correctly’ I worry about.

CowboyFromHell · 15/04/2022 19:38

@Goldijobsandthe3bears Completely agree on the masks and the waste and litter.

I think a lot of people want to be seen as “good people” and an easy way of doing this at the moment is to be very concerned about not passing on Covid to anyone, and to restrict your life accordingly. But to me this just comes across as narrow, blinkered and performative (even if this isn’t always the intention).

DonnatellaLyman · 15/04/2022 19:38

Really quite shocked so many people would do this

But also wondering if there is a correlation that the kind of people who are this selfish, and those alse don’t have anyone who likes them enough to drop off a few groceries? Hmm

daviesbrownsmithgreen · 15/04/2022 19:38

I wouldn't, I'd get my partner to go (as long as he was negative) or ask my parents who luckily live close by.

However, I am a teacher in a secondary school and we have very clearly been told that unless we are actually ill with covid then we still come in as normal with a positive test.

The line for some is very blurred.

DonnatellaLyman · 15/04/2022 19:40

Alse = that Wink

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 15/04/2022 19:42

So everyone who wouldn’t still tests daily then?

AlandAnna · 15/04/2022 19:44

No. And I’m pretty relaxed about Covid. Not going to knowingly spread it though!

TotallyTS · 15/04/2022 19:51

@Goldijobsandthe3bears

I'd test if I'd had a close contact or if I had symptoms.
Gonnabegrandma · 15/04/2022 19:56

For me it’s worrying the number of people who would go to to the supermarket . I have had 4 jabs so far but have no antibodies due to illness . So if I’m near someone who has it I am likely to catch it and might not be saved again due to my illness

SoupDragon · 15/04/2022 19:57

But also wondering if there is a correlation that the kind of people who are this selfish, and those alse don’t have anyone who likes them enough to drop off a few groceries?

There's probably a similar correlation for people who are sanctimonious.

7eleven · 15/04/2022 19:57

The thing is, if you can’t afford to buy tests, how will you know? A runny nose is a symptom - do we not go out if our nose runs?

If you can afford tests, then I agree that it is the socially responsible thing to stay in. Even then, if you won’t get paid if you don’t go to work and you’ve got rent to pay….it’s hard.

ilovesooty · 15/04/2022 19:57

@Goldijobsandthe3bears

So everyone who wouldn’t still tests daily then?
I've already said when I feel it's appropriate for me to test. It's not daily.
Goldijobsandthe3bears · 15/04/2022 19:59

I wasn’t directing that at you @ilovesooty.

ilovesooty · 15/04/2022 20:02

Fair enough.
