To be totally fed up with dogs?

dogtroubl · 14/04/2022 13:50

When we moved in, neighbours had an old dog that used to wander into our garden and leave poo everywhere. Couldn’t use garden with young kids due to mess and large dog.

Complained (politely), after quite a bit of unpleasantness fence finally fixed, dog died and they got 2 new dogs that were loud but contained.

Neighbours moved, new neighbours also have 2 dogs and fence is in a bad state of repair again due to the constant barking, snarling and scratching that happens every time we go outside. I always make sure I’m out there with the kids in case it breaks because they don’t sound friendly at all.

Their neighbours also have 2 dogs so the 2 sets are always setting each other off barking.

Family members also have dogs. One very old who soils everywhere and one very large, young dog who is very playful and jumps up and licks and dribbles all over you.

My daughter is terrified (the dog is easily as tall as her) and the family member always says dog will be shut away when we go over, but dog is always let or gets out soon after. I can tell my daughter’s fear of this dog irritates the family member but she’s genuinely scared after an incident when she was a toddler, plus this dog is like a horse to her and could do serious damage even with just a nip.

We’ve been to a few kids’ playgrounds over the holidays, dogs off lead and running all over the place at each one. Chasing kids in a “playful” way that scares them.

Dog poo all over footpaths and verges everywhere. Kids tread in it, I tread in it, buggy goes in it because I don’t see it until it’s too late.

I know it’s bad owners not the dogs’ fault etc but AIBU to just be totally fed up with dogs?

Clothing stores are for whoever their owners decide they are for...

You think it’s appropriate for pets to be in Topshop??

Cant bear the yapping and jumping up most dogs ate just awful

I really don’t know how anyone tolerates the yapping barking noise and the sharp claws when they jump up “just being friendly” “just pleased to see you” 🤦‍♀️

You said we are animals and not divine. So you think humans are the same level as animals. Otherwise you are agreeing with me that we are superior as a species.

Yes we are animals. Your idea of levels is arbitrary and doesn't work considering the complexity of the earth's ecosystems.

I don't think we're superior necessarily, but it depends what kind of criteria you're using. Intelligence? Sure, we're definitely more advanced. Morality and brutality? I don't think we can claim that considering the misery we inflict on each other and other species. Speed or strength or agility? No way, other species have us licked there.

vivainsomnia · 12/01/2023 13:40

Not one of them.t hey ALL have the ability to do harm
As again, many other things, including humans that you don't avoid because of the minute chance that they will harm you.

you're the one constantly comparing children/humans and dogs. It's weird. Using your analogy, I think that dogs are more important than cats, but that doesn't mean I think cats shouldn't be left to roam and potentially scare a dog.

we are all on earth to share it's space. We just have to learn to cohabit in the best way possible.

i can't get my head around whether you hate all dogs and want them all forbidden for all public places or whether you are making generations and only really have an issue with bad behaved dogs and their owners.

I cannot fucking STAND them

I probably couldn't fucking stand you then. 🙃 lol. Give me a dog anyway.

vivainsomnia · 12/01/2023 13:42

You think it’s appropriate for pets to be in Topshop??
If they are doing no harm, then yes!

BitOutOfPractice · 12/01/2023 13:43

I think there is a belief that everyone loves dogs. It's incredibly difficult to admit that you are not that keen.

I'm ambivalent about dogs on the whole but I am absolutely sick and tired of them being everywhere, all the time. Shops, restaurants (sitting up at the table on owners' laps 🤢), pubs, parks (off the lead, slobbering on my clothes), at work, begging for food as I try to eat my lunch at my desk, under my feet at ParkRun. Everywhere. All. The. Time.

This has got much worse of recent years and the default always seem to be, dogs are welcome, if you don't like it, lump it.

Then I guess you must be vegan. And never hurt any beings ever. Because we are all completely equal right. You’d be just as upset at a dead pigeon as a dead child??

BUT they MIGHT DO HARM - that’s the point ! They are animals ! How about hygiene issues with them being in a supermarket or restaurant ??

I agree. But evidently reading these comments - you can see that people think their pets are as important as human family members………. 🥴

No I'm not vegan.

You are responding to things I am not writing. I have not said we are completely equal. I have said humans are animals and in my opinion are not necessarily superior depending on what criteria you are using.

Please try reading my posts more carefully.

A) Ifthe hygiene risk of guide dogs is acceptable then this is irrelevant.

B) Humans are not hygienic anyway. If you think they are you're deluded. A 2015 study found only a quarter of people washed their hands after a number two... www.bbc.com/future/article/20200417-the-hidden-reasons-some-people-dont-wash-their-hands

When have I compared humans to dogs when it wasn’t simply in response to someone comparing humans to dogs?!?!

That doesn't negate the fact that humans can be pretty unhygienic.

This is what I mean. It's nigh on impossible to admit you aren't 100% in love with all dogs in real life because people take it so damn personally as you can see from this thread. All this "I prefer dogs to humans" trope is so pervasive that it's hard to admit otherwise. I'm tired of it now and I suspect most people are as well. It's gone too far.

As an example, I just had to go and wash dog slobber off my tights. I'm at work, in an office. It's just not always appropriate.

well since I’m not psychic, I can’t be sure what criteria you are referring to when you say that we are superior in some criteria but we are equal in other criterias…… 🙄

You don't need to be psychic, you can literally just read the ones I used as examples in my post. I appreciate reading comprehension is not your strong suit, however.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ah yes!! Restaurants are designed for DOGS of course they are. And so is ASDA!! Send the dogs off with their pocket money to go shopping and stop off for a plate of spaghetti. I give up. This is ridiculous!

So please enlighten me. You think we are animals but you still think we are superior? Therefore isn’t that the same as what I said ?

there are even comments saying that dog bites are often the fault of the human.
just …….. wtf really at all of this.
it is utter nonsense.

I will copy and paste the post you quoted, since you seem to be struggling with that basic task. I do have one small addendum.

I don't think we're superior necessarily, but it depends what kind of criteria you're using. Intelligence? Sure, we're definitely more advanced(1). Morality and brutality? I don't think we can claim that considering the misery we inflict on each other and other species. Speed or strength or agility? No way, other species have us licked there.

(1) On a general basis. Certain recent interactions lead me to believe that a collie could outperform certain adult humans on the intelligence scale.

vivainsomnia · 12/01/2023 14:00

I would argue my dog is more hygienic than those kids I see all through winter, in their pushchair, full of snort, wiling their nose with their hands and then touching all the clothes they pass.

It's easy to oy see what we want to see. The fact is if dogs are accepted in shops, they are accepted, just like those snotty toddlers.
