Walked out of cinema mid movie

Took my dd to see the secrets of dumbledore. Really didn't enjoy it, wasn't our thing and the cinema was boiling on top of that, I was burning up and so uncomfortable. Daughter agreed she wasn't enjoying the film so we walked out about 45 minutes into it (discreetly I hope). Both agreed once out that we had no idea what was going on, the storyline was difficult to follow.

Obviously we were home early and my husband was outraged (no exaggeration) that we had paid money to see a film and walked out mid way. He said it's rude and a waste of money and not teaching my dd anything Confused I think he's mad and considering this particular film is 2.5 hours long, I'd rather not sit and bear it.

Actually I'd have said something to the staff and asked for my money back. If it was that hot you felt you needed to leave!

Also for Dumbledore I don't think you need to have seen the other films but you do need to have seen all the HP films and/or read the books! There's a hell of a lot of subtext based on the information in the final 2/3 HP books that without I would also have been lost.

Technically it's not the 3rd out of five films but the 11th out of 13 Wizarding World films.

I loved it, but I'm a loser who still loves HP.

Well we watched it right to the end yesterday afternoon. Us two and the other four people in the cinema Shock. It was entertaining, I followed most of the plot but DS (the Harry Potter fan) said it was over long and he got bored. I don't think we'd bother with any more of them or rewatch this one.

I don’t know - if you hadn’t seen the previous two then you don’t even know why Jacob is hanging around with them, why Queenie is on the opposite side but obviously attached to them also, who Credence even is, lots of things that I think wouldn’t really make much sense.

I saw it yesterday. I thought it was okay. I’m a big Harry Potter fan but, again, thought it was just okay. I do think the whole Fantastic Beasts series could have used a lot of cleaning up to tighten the plots. Maybe it’s just me! But I feel like a lot of the time the films rely on a lot of fun special effects and ‘touching’ moments that have little context to make the audience actually care about them.

I can imagine if I wasn’t a big Harry Potter fan and hadn’t seen the previous two I might have left somewhere in the beginning.

@Duracellbunnywannabe

You taught your daughter that she doesn’t need to keep doing something if it isn’t what she expected/isn’t enjoying it. Judging by the relationship board this is something every girl/women definitely needs to learn but many haven’t.
This!!

So many girls need to learn that if it stops being fun, it’s ok to stop doing it.

Tell your husband the cinema ticket costs are “sunk costs” and so irrelevant to the decision of whether to stay or walk out.

I've never walked out of a film but only because I suffer from Mastermind Syndrome - I've started so I'll finish - and also FOMO - I tell myself it will get better but it never does.

I admire people who walk out. The last time was a few weeks ago at Ambulance with Jake Gyllenhaal about bank robbers who hijack an ambulance.

I like action films but this one was dull - quite a trick for an action film - and stole bits from every action film I'd ever seen like Heat, Die Hard, Die Hard With A Vengeance, Speed, Lethal Weapon, Face/Off, the Fugitive etc. Thinking about it, all those films are quite old so maybe the director thought he could get away with it on an audience younger than me.

The man next to me left so discreetly that I didn't notice but maybe I'd nodded off. My friend liked it but that was because she never watches that kind of film so it was all new to her.

My mum walked out of something with my dad and demanded their money back and got it. I admire that too but I couldn't do it. My dad was embarrassed but impressed.

Of course leave, no one's bothered unless you were noisy and being a PITA whilst doing so - I'm sure you weren't. Your dh is incomprehensible.

I have walked out of live shows because they're crap or I'm ill. I once walked out in the middle of a performance of John Cage's piano music. Half the audience followed me! Honestly, it was hilarious; I got very bored and got out my book, there was a man a few rows behind me who had fallen asleep and was snoring loudly, my friend got the giggles, so when the pianist went off-stage for a pause between pieces, I quickly shot up and made my way towards the exit. The woman manning the doors kept saying as I approached "it's not an interval, it's just a paused" to which I replied (quietly) that I didn't care. As soon as she opened the door for me I felt a massive change in the atmosphere and a whole load of people (including the man who had fallen asleep, suddenly wide awake and practically treading on my heels) me out. Hearing comments like "so awful", "waste of a good pianist" and so forth made me feel less guilty,, though I was sorry for the pianist, who was perfectly good and deserved better.

I actually quite like John Cage's music, well some of it.

I have to say, I'm not sure what people were expecting at a performance of John Cage music Confused Grin
