Walked out of cinema mid movie

Took my dd to see the secrets of dumbledore. Really didn't enjoy it, wasn't our thing and the cinema was boiling on top of that, I was burning up and so uncomfortable. Daughter agreed she wasn't enjoying the film so we walked out about 45 minutes into it (discreetly I hope). Both agreed once out that we had no idea what was going on, the storyline was difficult to follow.

Obviously we were home early and my husband was outraged (no exaggeration) that we had paid money to see a film and walked out mid way. He said it's rude and a waste of money and not teaching my dd anything Confused I think he's mad and considering this particular film is 2.5 hours long, I'd rather not sit and bear it.

How I'd it rude? It's not live theatre. Dumbledore can't see you.

Anoisagusaris · 13/04/2022 22:07

Who does he think you see being rude to? 🤣

inmyslippers · 13/04/2022 22:07

Rude to who though? It's your time and money. I'm more shocked that you didn't like it

elidelochanthefirst · 13/04/2022 22:07

I can't imagine ever doing this personally 🤷‍♀️. Had you seen the other films?

I mean it's up to you but yes... I have never walked out.

Duracellbunnywannabe · 13/04/2022 22:09

You taught your daughter that she doesn’t need to keep doing something if it isn’t what she expected/isn’t enjoying it. Judging by the relationship board this is something every girl/women definitely needs to learn but many haven’t.

ImInStealthMode · 13/04/2022 22:09

Not unreasonable at all. Rude to who exactly? No ruder to your fellow cinema-goers than getting up to go to the loo, and in fact less so as you didn't disturb them again coming back.

I have an Unlimited card and they sometimes do secret advance screenings for members. It's typical for 25% of the audience to get up and leave when the movie is revealed, because it's not for them. Nobody cares.

underneaththeash · 13/04/2022 22:09

We liked it. Had you not seen the previous one?
It made more sense when you got to the end.

SaxendaSummer · 13/04/2022 22:09

surely its not that hard to follow...isnt it a kids film?

Carbiesdreamhouse · 13/04/2022 22:10

It's not rude but it's kind of privileged I guess. I'd have gone and got more pick and mix to get me through to the end.

No I hadn't, daughter wanted to see it. I really had no idea what was going on.

Bless your DH for standing up for Dumbledore.

I’ve walked out of films. It’s fine. The actors don’t know.

334bu · 13/04/2022 22:11

Not unreasonable at all.

Ohyesiam · 13/04/2022 22:11

Rude to whom?
Can’t imagine the popcorn dispenser was that worried.

ViaRia · 13/04/2022 22:11

Well, it’s teaching her that she doesn’t have to sit and endure crap for the sake of being polite. A useful thing to know, I think. I’m sure you can teach her about not wasting money some other time.

NotTheOW · 13/04/2022 22:11

Does he also insist you finish meals even if you don't like them/are full? It sounds like the same sort of mentality.

elidelochanthefirst · 13/04/2022 22:11

Oh😆

Well I wouldn't go to see the third movie in a trilogy without seeing the other two.

If it was me, I'd be worrying your daughter was enjoying it but she felt like you weren't so she agreed to leave when she didn't want to.

galacticpixels · 13/04/2022 22:11

I think it's fine. The money was gone either way, so why waste your time as well?

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 13/04/2022 22:11

I've left umpteen films early either because I was bored, the film wasn't up to much, or I felt unwell. Nobody is obliged to sit through anything just because they've paid for it.

It's annoying when people constantly try to edge past you in the cinema while the movie is in progress, but provided you weren't back and forward and just got up once to leave, I honestly can't see what the issue is.

IstayedForTheFeminism · 13/04/2022 22:11

My friends dad did this when we were teens. I was shocked, the cinema was a rare treat in our house. They were far wealthier so it wasn't the waste of money to him that I saw it as.

Catflapkitkat · 13/04/2022 22:11

You paid your money, it's up to you if you walk out. It's not rude.

I walked out of The Matrix - could make head nor tail of it. Someone told it's gets better after the first hour ..... I was off long before then

Friedaseyebrow · 13/04/2022 22:12

I'm with you,.life's too short to sit through a movie you don't enjoy. It's already had your cash, don't let it have your time too! I've walked out of a couple of films before, left a play at the interval and ditched loads of crap books!

ThinWomansBrain · 13/04/2022 22:12

left a film midway though once
was sitting in the cinema about six months later and realised I was watching the film I'd walked out of.
I quite enjoyed it the second time around - well I stayed until the end at least.

ffscovid · 13/04/2022 22:12

Isn't this the 3rd instalment? I'm assuming it is necessary to have watched the first two to get what's going on.

How old is DD? Young enough for others to think you could have been leaving for an accompanied loo trip?

Either way, no obligation to stay if you're not enjoying yourselves.

FangsForTheMemory · 13/04/2022 22:12

I've walked out of a couple of films: one was so gruesome I was near to fainting, the other was 'Clerks' and it was rubbish.

Don't see why it would be considered rude. It's not as if the actors know you are walking out.

NotTheOW · 13/04/2022 22:12

@Carbiesdreamhouse

It's not rude but it's kind of privileged I guess. I'd have gone and got more pick and mix to get me through to the end.
How is it privileged? They have the privilege of not being strapped to their chair for the whole film?
