Inspired by another thread but mainly by my own experiences today.
In February it was 20p to use the public loos at our favourite seaside town. Today it has doubled to 40p! There are now contactless points incase you don't have any cash. 40p to pee!
Mr Kipling cherry Bakewells have jumped to £1.90 in Asda and I'm sure they used to be £1.40 or sometimes even £1 and that was only a few weeks back. Cake isn't essential I know, but peeing is. Things have gone up generally but the odd pence here and there isn't always noticed but these are huge jumps.

@justfiveminutes
I was forcibly moved to a new supplier, so now on their variable rate. The account was £200 in debit by end of March. I’ve brought it up to date and submitted meter readings, and this is their new estimate.

catlovingdoctor · 13/04/2022 23:22

Coffee in pret gone up to £3.15. I just can't justify it anymore !

Soundoftheunderground · 13/04/2022 23:23

@NoAprilFool

My car is now £55 to fill up when it was £40 not so long ago (a wee Honda Jazz) I’m rubbish at remembering specific prices but our online shop used to hit £70 occasionally if we’d run out of loads of toiletries/cleaning products. It’s £100 on a regular basis now.
@NoAprilFool

We have two Honda Jazz.

Brilliant cars… and at least we are only paying £55. Those with slightly bigger cars are spending a foooortune.

Plus they are pretty fuel economical.

I’m quite passionate about how much I love my Jazz 🤣

Dasher789 · 13/04/2022 23:24

Pringles at £3 a tube - I might never have a Pringles again Sad

mycatisannoying · 13/04/2022 23:24

The bin bags I was getting from Tesco (white Brabantia style ones): used to be £1 a pack, and are now £3.

Soundoftheunderground · 13/04/2022 23:24

@catlovingdoctor

Why not get the pret coffee subscription.

Then have more coffee! With the subscription they are practically paying you to drink coffee.

We don’t have one here 😢

NoAprilFool · 13/04/2022 23:27

@Soundoftheunderground

I also love my wee Jazz Grin
It’s taken us all over the country but is mostly close to home and super easy to park!!

Nescafé azera used to be 100g pots but is now 90g. In Sainsbury's it was about 6 quid! Luckily I stocked up a while back but I'll be switching to cheaper coffee that's for sure.
The Lidl version is actually nicer and £2.29 a tub for 100g. One of my colleagues and I take turns to buy nice coffee, because we can't stand the catering one. I buy Lidl own and she buys Azeera and she always says mine is nicer! It really is.

I noticed the crisps being expensive, also out of stock a lot. I was doing online Asda shops and I noticed branded crisps showing up on offer but they were almost all out of stock very single time I was on there. I Googled crisps shortage and apparently there actually has been one, which may be why they are either expensive or out of stock. I don't know why this wasn't bigger news!

Lovinglife45 · 13/04/2022 23:33

I have noticed a lot of products in Sainsbury's have increased by 20p to 30p. It adds up when you are doing a big shop. I buy a lot of own brands. A 6 pack of walkers was £1.95!

Poundland is good for crisps, snack bars, biscuits and Savers for toiletries.

I find Lidl fruit and veg do not last at all. Grapes mouldy in a few days, pears bruised and soft.

22fgjiyt · 13/04/2022 23:42

First world problem but Dominos have started charging for delivery

DrCoconut · 13/04/2022 23:48

Morrison's gluten free pizza is now much more expensive. It was a bargain at 80p until recently and better than the branded ones. It's also harder to find the cheap bread in the free from aisle as everyone snaps it up presumably so you can pay £3+ for a very small loaf (400g or so). And Lidl have stopped seeking their nice GF cookies altogether 😭. We got a takeaway curry on holiday recently and it cost £27 for me and 2 DC. I know that is a first world problem but still, everything is going up except ordinary people's incomes.

TerraNovaTwo · 13/04/2022 23:49

Coop flavoured ice cream tub £1.80 to £2.20.

Coop toastie bread 65p to 89p overnight.

Tesco baked beans 4 for £1 to 4 for £1.40

DrCoconut · 13/04/2022 23:49

Selling not seeking. Stupid autocorrect

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/04/2022 23:52

Premier Inn breakfasts.

Pre pandemic I always used to take my 2 dc for breakfast once every school holiday at our local Brewers Fayre that is attached to a premier Inn. I’m sure it was £7.50.

They've been £9.50 for the all-inclusive ones for ages (with up to two free kids' meals). Are you sure you aren't thinking of the continental-only option, which is a pound or two cheaper?

EmeraldShamrock1 · 13/04/2022 23:54

There has been a lot of increases in the supermarket, particularly own brand items have jumped around 11%.
Electricity.
We have oil heating the price has gone through the roof.

Cultureclub · 13/04/2022 23:55

I bought pine nuts yesterday to make post with the wild garlic growing in my garden. In tesco, 150g cost £5.00 and I know I've never paid so much for it. It must be around £35 per kilo.

Cultureclub · 13/04/2022 23:56

*to make pesto

Supersimkin2 · 14/04/2022 00:00

Price rises are 20% to 50% - not 5% the Govt claim.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/04/2022 00:00

There's a issue about eggs and potentially shortages. Saw it on the news but can't remember the reason.

Isn't it salmonella or something? Technically, at the moment, you can't buy free range eggs (except possibly ones from very small-scale local places) - eggs labelled as free range are currently allowed to actually be barn eggs, to protect the hens and avoid the risk of the infected ones spreading it.

At least they're still given a reasonable amount of freedom, albeit indoors only, unlike battery hens: I believe that anybody who thinks keeping hens in battery conditions is acceptable should be forced to spend a month in the same conditions themselves, before deciding if they might just have changed their mind at the end of it....

EmeraldShamrock1 · 14/04/2022 00:04

The increases will impact on employment.

We usually have a takeaway on a Friday evening but it won't be happening now likewise with other guilty pleasures I won't be having my nails done either.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/04/2022 00:05

Don't forget the shrinkflation in standard petrol that the government has brought it, under false pretences of it being better for the environment.

5% of the petrol has been removed from each litre and replaced by plant material to bulk it out, so you will now need to buy 21 tanks where you previously bought 20. That's if your car can use it without it causing damage, of course - then tax is added, and because 'choosing' to pay that compulsory tax is a 'luxury', VAT is charged on it too.

Alternatively, you can buy the Super petrol to avoid this, which of course, costs considerably more than standard.

I think we're going to see massive numbers of takeaways, nail bars and similar closing down over the next year. Occasional treats and luxuries that people used to happily spend £20-£50 a time on will have to give way as the folk who used to have that money spare to buy them now have no choice but to spend it on increased prices for essentials.

fruitcakepie · 14/04/2022 00:20

@Peppapigforlife

I've just remembered I went into a fish and chip shop today and it was £11 for take away cod and chips. Both small. It was town centre and tourist spot but I realised I couldn't afford fish and chips. £5 for a battered sausage and chips in the places I've seen so far! I think I'm going to start learning a lot of new culinary skills!
I recently paid £24 for two take away fish and chip dinners and two cans of coke in Southend. I couldn't believe it.
NeedAHoliday2021 · 14/04/2022 00:23

Dh went to fill our car tonight for a long drive and it wouldn’t let him go over £99 but that didn’t fill the car! It’s a 7 seater but never gone over £75 before.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 14/04/2022 00:25

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll avian flu is the issue. Chickens have to be kept inside so they don’t spread it to wild birds and potentially humans and become the new pandemic.
