Gove for PM

With Boris the lamest of lame ducks with not much longer until he is toast and Rishi "don't tax me" Sunak seemingly out of the running AIBU to think that the path is clear for Michael Gove to become the countries saviour and best ever Prime Minister?

@JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil

With the amount of kompromat the press have on Gove not a chance. Plus he’ll bring his mate Cummings back into the fold.

I am willing to put money on some shady back office Malcolm Tucker having a dossier as thick as your arm on Gove...

HoveringDonkeyofKnock · 13/04/2022 14:24

I think we’d be more likely to get Liz British Cheese DisgraceTruss than Gove.

OMG imagine if it was Nadine Dorries? I only found out she’s a best selling fiction author the other day.

RewildingAmbridge · 13/04/2022 15:38

@NashvilleQueen unless this was sarcasm I can absolutely assure you he was not well liked within the MOJ!

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 13/04/2022 16:40

Mr Slinky for PM? No thanks.

As a few others have said Rory Stewart would have been a better choice if he were still an MP.

RIPLilliththeLynx · 13/04/2022 17:30

Jeremy Corbyn had nice things to say about Gove at a constituency meeting (that he's intelligent and decent). I'd rather him than pretty much any other cabinet member, I suppose.

Mimilamore · 13/04/2022 18:57

Startled turbot, haunted pencil... so apt!😂😂

jgw1 · 13/04/2022 21:47

@longwayoff

jgw1 I see my comment's been perceived as pointless spite. I hope I've not upset you and understand the spirit in which it was meant.
@longwayoff

No upset here.
I just thought I would try and spend a thread trying to be a Tory fan, it was quite fun, although why some people do it full time I have no idea.

@NashvilleQueen

He was very much liked by staff at Defra and MOJ.
I think he was respected. Liked might be pushing it.
Snog · 25/04/2022 21:10

Gove is even worse than Boris in my opinion and that's saying something.

jgw1 · 25/04/2022 21:58

Oh, I am going to enjoy resurrecting this thread in October.

hellsbells99 · 25/04/2022 22:09

I think Ben Wallace may be Boris’ replacement

Sarkymarky · 25/04/2022 22:31

Gove is slime ball who stapped Boris in the back so he is clearly PM material. But dancing in a night club in a suit rules him out for me🕺🏾

elitecomplainer · 27/04/2022 10:21

Gove namechecked in an article about how his education reforms damaged young people's mental health:

With references/reports/evidence a-plenty

This is why he is a contender, thanks for sharing.

I just keep thinking about Dead Ringers: "Govey Govey Govey here!" and calling up other politicians to gossip and shit-stir...

Michael Gove may be decent, according to Jeremy Corbyn, but he needs to realise that, if you stab a minister in the back, and say they are unfit, you cannot then serve under their administration. He lacks moral courage. If the failing which caused the back- stabbing was so suddenly revealing itself to occasion a last minute betrayal, then it must have been something very serious, Gove had realised about his friend.

Hortensiateapot · 27/04/2022 11:32

Ben Wallace
sajid Javid
Jeremy hunt

All 3 seem to have managed to keep themselves clear of the brexit/dodgy PPE contracts/covid care home shambles/ Afghan dog flights/partygate/tax dodging/flat refurbishing/cocaine and sleaze stories and seem to be doing a good job at the moment. But who knows what’s in the closet (and you could argue hunt was responsible for our lack of pandemic preparedness).

truss is too close to Boris I think.

can we have Ruth Davidson?

Eskarina1 · 27/04/2022 11:41

I worked in the NHS for the entirety of "former secretary of hulture" Jeremy Hunt's reign as Health Secretary so it's personally quite devastating that he'd be my pick of the current bunch.

I actually liked Rory Stewart until the moment he mistook two black musicians for minor gangsters, seemingly for no reason.

Gove would be great though in the run up to the next general election since I don't want the Tory party to win.

newnamethanks · 27/04/2022 13:16

Ruth Davidson would be ideal but she's far too honest to be associated with this bunch of grasping chancers. Wouldn't sully her hands and who could blame her.
