Gove for PM

With Boris the lamest of lame ducks with not much longer until he is toast and Rishi "don't tax me" Sunak seemingly out of the running AIBU to think that the path is clear for Michael Gove to become the countries saviour and best ever Prime Minister?

No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.

FOJN · 12/04/2022 20:19

We need Rory Stewart back.

Yes we do.

I find Gove and Hunt repellent, even more than Johnson, however, I would accept literally anyone before Rees-Mogg.

I'd probably favour Javid if we can't have Rory Stewart.

ThreeFeetTall · 12/04/2022 20:28

Was it Gove that leaked this stuff about Sunaks tax arrangements?

I'd rather have Gove than Raab or Williamson or Patel but by the time we're at that stage I'd rather have a random person off the street as PM tbh.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 12/04/2022 20:29

I fucking hope not

DogsAndGin · 12/04/2022 20:30

What do you like about Gove, OP?

KaptainKaveman · 12/04/2022 20:31

He's a lying two faced cunt. And a tory. He ruined education and is utterly vile.

Jane1727 · 12/04/2022 20:32

Gove is a vile man and has done so much damage to the education system. I really hope not!!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/04/2022 20:53

What alternatives are there?
I think Bob Mortimer would be good, and he's got a sort law background.
I like Martin Clunes, he seemed to know a lot about medicine.
Tis right pity Fred Dibnah's gone t'scrapyard in sky.
And I wouldn't want to mess with Anne Widdecombe.

There are lots more but I just better post before I lose what I've typed. Wink

@DowningStreetParty

Nice try Michael. You’d be an absolute disaster of a PM.

(Though there’s nothing wrong with getting pissed and going out clubbing once in a while and more MPs should do that. Smile)

An absolute disaster would be an order of magnitude better than the current PM>

Gove? No way, they’ll have to do better than that.

SenoraMiasma · 12/04/2022 20:55

@elitecomplainer

There’s a big difference between A’levels in Gove’s time to those before his reforms - no comparison.

Problem has always been that our job/education market competes with those who do have that traditional education and their students are getting the good jobs. He was trying to give students here the same edge.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/04/2022 20:55

Fuck me no.

I did A levels in Gove's time and have DC who have done the whole GCSE and A level journey post-Gove.

I can make my own comparison.

GCSE's now much much harder than the original GCSEs. Contain much of the previous AS content (e.g. in Maths). English lit brought back to Brexit values, with removal of anything other than traditional UK texts (hopefully that has been revised because it is just going to bred narrow-minded people who forget there is a world beyond Brexit borders).

A levels pretty much comparable, except for the removal of nearly all coursework, and 65-70% no longer enough to get you an A in most subjects, now more like 75% and of course that is only the second highest grade since Gove brought in A*, so the poor kids have to get 85% to get the highest grade at a huge cost to their mental and physical and emotional and social well-being.

elitecomplainer · 12/04/2022 21:02

But, yes, you right, the worst damage was done at GCSE level and thank goodness Gove moved on to 'reform' something else before he got stuck into A levels too.

jgw1 · 12/04/2022 21:02

@DogsAndGin

What do you like about Gove, OP?
He is quite clearly the most dedicated competent turbot in the government.
OP posts:
Snog · 12/04/2022 21:03

I think he is even worse than Boris

elitecomplainer · 12/04/2022 21:06

And 'reform' did not need to follow the highly conservative/totalitarian states in Asia. More hours, more revision, more exams, harder papers etc.

That Tory government could have chosen to look at how the equally successful, Scandinavian countries achieved their high academic standards, but no: EU = bad, liberal = bad.

TheHaka · 12/04/2022 21:09

Aaaaw fuck off Mick!

RockinHorseShit · 12/04/2022 21:22

Absolutely NO, from the frying pan to the fire 🤢

DuncinToffee · 12/04/2022 21:29
Grin
DowningStreetParty · 12/04/2022 21:33

He’s frightening though, seriously. Like saying we had all ‘had enough of experts’ over the problems warned from Brexit.

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/04/2022 21:34

What have you taken?

jgw1 · 12/04/2022 21:37

@MrsSkylerWhite

What have you taken?
I know all these posters being mean about Gove, definitely something fishy in the water tonight.

vodkaredbullgirl · 12/04/2022 22:02

Larry the cat for PM.

CarryonCovid · 12/04/2022 22:10

He also tried to do the same at A level, and indeed there are now As in all A levels so the 17-18 year olds can destroy their mental health and physical health so some Tory can be satisfied that A levels are not getting easier every year (this was the Tory rhetoric Gove was buying into and perpetuating with his 'reforms*

As the parent of an A-level student I like the new grades. 69% is very different from 96% that should be acknowledged.
