I know alot of it is probably exajerated by media but to splosh out that much on a completely ott wedding seems quite revolting to me when millions all over the world are dying and how that money could have been spent on helping starving dying children, housing homeless people and helping refugees fleeing from war torture disaster and god knows what. And while I'm having a moan flogging just 1 painting of the royal family could probably solve alot of problems and it makes me sick how they preach to everyone about everything whilst sitting on fortunes t they don't need want and probably don't even like or notice anymore. Anyway that's what I think.

Well it’s up to the Beckhams how they celebrate, their money , their choice! I couldn’t care less what they do or any other celebrity! Actually the beckhams do quite a bit for charity

EnjoyingTheSilence · 11/04/2022 18:26

Think of all the people employed because of that wedding. The caterers, food suppliers, lighting and sound technicians, designers, production managers etc etc

I used to agree with you OP but the line of work I’m in now, I see obscene amounts of money being spent, but I also see what it’s been spent on? There are a hell of a lot of people employed because of events like this.

BeneficiaryMadness · 11/04/2022 18:27

Lots of people at the wedding donated to charity. I would imagine it was a fair chunk of cash. Does that make you feel better OP?

As a percentage of their wealth that wedding cost peanuts.

What did your wedding cost percentage wise?

And they asked for donations from everyone for Ukraine. Bet that raised a bob or two
Apparently the bride's parents' donation was 'substantial'

me4real · 11/04/2022 18:27

It's their money, their wedding and of course they would want it to be how they want it. We all do.

notanotheroneagain · 11/04/2022 18:28

I can't get too worked up about this.

Not the taxpayer money. Most of it went to businesses and employees that were struggling in the last 2yrs.

All those rich guests were asked to donate to charity with David and father of the bride apparently donating the most.

MakeMineALarge1 · 11/04/2022 18:30

We could all do more, we could all cut back somewhere and donate it, but the truth is no matter how much we donate individually or collectively, it will never be enough!

Money is not the solution

Time is also needed, what do you do OP to help the issue?

No matter how much we donate there will always be homelessness, drugs, alcohol, poverty.

So donate what you can and be content with that,

narcdad · 11/04/2022 18:31

It's not to my taste and they all looked l like they were going to a nightclub.

I'm guessing the Beckhams give a lot more to charity than I do though

Sirzy · 11/04/2022 18:31

Maybe you would rather everyone live in poverty?

I have no interest in them at all but hope they had a lovely day as I do anyone celebrating something like that.

Lennybenny · 11/04/2022 18:32

I'm more annoyed -pissed- off that the person in the Gov that's sorting out the budget situation is married to a billionaire and therefore imo doesn’t have a clue about how real people budget.

balalake · 11/04/2022 18:35

Something that I wish someone could work out would be the relationship between the cost of the wedding and the percentage of those that are 'till death us do part'. I'd wager for most people who call themselves English at least it is in inverse proportion.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 11/04/2022 18:36

The headline could be "Rich folk pump a shed load of cash into local economy for wedding"?
Your anger should be directed at the gap between rich and poor, and how we as a society idolise idiots like the Kardashians. Billionaire status should be seen as a failure in society, not a sucess.
The Royal families portraits are irrelevant, they aren't free people. They are privileged, but not free.

mickeypillow · 11/04/2022 18:38

Why did you title this to be disgusted with Brooklyn Beckham. Why not Nicola or her family?

You are unreasonable. I hope they had a lovely day and are happy.

WakeMeUpWhenTheyHaveGone · 11/04/2022 18:39

YABU as it’s their money, they’re keeping businesses afloat, giving to charities and not taking or stealing from the public purse in order to fund it!

Tigertigertigertiger · 11/04/2022 18:40

Completely agree. So vulgar

You must go to a fancy night club

He's worked for his money, why should he feel a failure for being financially successful?
Cultureclub · 11/04/2022 18:43

Is there an argument that it's distributing money into the economy which probably would have sat in their huge bank account otherwise. Hopefully it works out but I can't imagine Brooklyn was exactly what they wanted for their beautiful heiress daughter.
The expensive simplicity of all the dresses was amazing.

beenaroundtheblox · 11/04/2022 18:43

@BulletTrain

All that money goes to the venue, photographers, caterers, suppliers, dressmakers, florists, which employ hundreds of people, who all pay tax. It doesn't go into a hole in the ground. YAB extremely U.
Exactly. This will have been a big boost for an industry massively affected by covid etc.
BoodleBug51 · 11/04/2022 18:46

I find it hard to get worked up about tbh. It's not their fault they were born to wealthy parents.

Neither family has to watch pennies. And I bet the money spent wasn't a dent in the bank balance sheets.

Hummingbirdcake · 11/04/2022 18:47

Meh. My wedding dress cost £120 and I looked as good as her.

SueSaid · 11/04/2022 18:47

The bride looked beautiful didn't she. You can't help wondering if her family were disappointed she ended up with a Beckham. She looks totally out of his league.

ChangeAndHelp · 11/04/2022 18:49

The thing with the painting: for the sale to benefit anyone it would have to be bought by someone just as wealthy.

None of these issues would exist if we had a fair tax system and an appreciation for those that provide vital services like farmers, nurses and caters, educators and reaserchers - rather than celebrities

Phobiaphobic · 11/04/2022 18:53

Totally agree, OP. Doesn't matter whether or not you can afford it, it's immoral.

ImConfusedDotCom · 11/04/2022 18:55

I kind of know what you mean. Some things like this annoy me. Some dont. Some make me feel ill. Some dont. I used to be a lecturer and I remember how all the pomp and circumstance of graduation ceremonies used to make me feel sick. Outside the hall where everyone wore fancy clothes and silly hats, were a few homeless guys who used to hang out in extreme poverty. The disparity sickened me irrationally (as I know the kids deserved their day. I loved my own graduation). I think it just sickens you when you notice it, and then it's hard to un notice it!

I'm more bothered by the likes of the top .05% of earners globally who could wipe out most of the world's poverty if they spent their wealth in the right way. But I'm just little old me, unknown, anonymous and with no power or influence. So I just concentrate on my own family and hope the world wakes up
