To be disgusted by brooklyn Beckham wedding

I know alot of it is probably exajerated by media but to splosh out that much on a completely ott wedding seems quite revolting to me when millions all over the world are dying and how that money could have been spent on helping starving dying children, housing homeless people and helping refugees fleeing from war torture disaster and god knows what. And while I'm having a moan flogging just 1 painting of the royal family could probably solve alot of problems and it makes me sick how they preach to everyone about everything whilst sitting on fortunes t they don't need want and probably don't even like or notice anymore. Anyway that's what I think.

@SleepingStandingUp or maybe I should've said going to bed 😂

To be disgusted by brooklyn Beckham wedding
Wife2b · 11/04/2022 18:58

But the money you refer to is theirs. Theirs to do as they please, like it or not. Plenty of people go on holiday every year and spend thousands on a two week break away. Should they scrap those plans and just give the money to charity? It’s definitely over the top and extravagant but who are we to say how they spend their money.

emuloc · 11/04/2022 18:59

@Teeturtle

That kind of wealth is unimaginable to me. But then the wealth I have is probably unimaginable to a couple of billion of people on the planet too. So by this reasoning, nobody should do anything whilst there is somebody less well off in life. YABU. Congratulations to the newlyweds.
This. That £15,000 that some people spend on their weddings would be an obscene amount to some people.
TheLoupGarou · 11/04/2022 19:00

Meh. It's a happy event at the end of the day - sounds like they asked for donations to charity and think of all that money going into the wedding businesses.

There is so much shite in the world, it's nice that people are happy, celebrating love. I get more angry about corporate tax evasion tbh.

IcedPurple · 11/04/2022 19:01

@Phobiaphobic

Totally agree, OP. Doesn't matter whether or not you can afford it, it's immoral.
Why?

You could argue that it's wrong for so much wealth to be concentrated in so few hands, but that's a different discussion. That money is already theirs. As others have pointed out, it's probably a smaller percentage of their net worth than many MNers spend on their weddings. So how is it 'immoral'?

Chloemol · 11/04/2022 19:02

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/04/2022 19:07

The most surprising thing about the wedding IMO is that a 'Nicola' under the age of 40 actually exists. Grin

emuloc · 11/04/2022 19:07

@JaniieJones

The bride looked beautiful didn't she. You can't help wondering if her family were disappointed she ended up with a Beckham. She looks totally out of his league.
What a shallow comment.
Blondeshavemorefun · 11/04/2022 19:09

The daily fail said the same 😂

Yes it’s a huge amount to spend on a wedding but they have billions

So prob like someone like me who spent £5k or less on our wedding last year

The 3 million would have helped many business from flowers to bubbly to photography to venues to etc etc

Tho I did read that apparent it the vicar or celebrant kept calling Brooklyn David.

Not sure how true that is but if it is wow 😱😱

miltonj · 11/04/2022 19:11

I agree with you about the royal family. But think the beckhams can do as they please.

Applesonthelawn · 11/04/2022 19:13

Their money their business, although I would be saying that with a clearer conscience if Brooklyn Beckham had any achievements in life that indicated he had the maturity to be married.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 11/04/2022 19:16

I think your anger is directed at the wrong people here.

TheRealMrsMac · 11/04/2022 19:18

The money is a drop in the ocean to them. I wonder how much was actually personally paid for by the two families and how much was given for free for product placement advertising and the magazine deal? Even the car 'gift' was a useful plug for a company DB invested in. I suppose asking for charity donations from guests is at least something and makes them feel/look better.

To be honest, I'm not at all interested in them or similar celebrities, but I understand many people are and sometimes want some light-hearted 'fluff' as a distraction from war, Covid and the cost of living crisis. I just wish the same newspapers would give the same amount of column inches to stories like this as they do to fluff like the wedding:

A580Hojas · 11/04/2022 19:27

Yanbu OP. I find all excessive wealth quite disgusting, doesn't matter who it is. It repulses me tbh.

TooTiredToSleepRightNow · 11/04/2022 19:28

I hate these rants, it’s all relative, why can’t people understand that. As long as they pay their taxes they can spend their money how they want. They’ve worked hard let them enjoy it. Corrupt governments and politics are responsible so focus your attention on them.

Prescottdanni123 · 11/04/2022 19:29

It shouldn't have been flaunted, but people are entitled to have nice things, including £500,000 cars, if that is what they want. It is not like the Beckhams don't do a lot for charity. But I agree, the news about the weddings and the photos were done in poor taste.

A580Hojas · 11/04/2022 19:32

@DressingPafe

If you break it down though, all the money goes somewhere. All the champagne they got through, somewhere down the line there will be vineyards that have "normal" people working for them, who need to earn a living. A lot of the catering staff, wait staff etc, probably normal people who were glad to earn the money. Etc etc. There are many people needing charitable help, but there are also many who rely on the wealthier to earn their living.
This is such bollocks. The trickle down effect so bandied about in arguments for capitalism is not working - why else do we have such inequality, even in first world countries?
Againstmachine · 11/04/2022 19:33

I find it hilarious that it's been announced as a Jewish wedding, it was in daylight on the Sabbath.

Mrsmch123 · 11/04/2022 19:35

His money to do with what he wishes🤷🏻‍♀️ Do you give all your money away??

Snoopsnoggysnog · 11/04/2022 19:35

Not read whole thread but I read they asked people to donate to Ukraine charities instead of gifts?

She’s 27 though! I work with 2 Nicolas who are late 20s and mid 30s!
gingerhills · 11/04/2022 19:39

The irony is - they are helping the economy by overspending in this way. Loads of people are employed to serve at the wedding, cater for it, supply the caterers, supply the florists, make clothes and favours and drive people around. When the rich stop circulating their money and passing it down to poorer members of society through hiring them, then we are in an even worse state. Frugal billionaires are worse for society than spendthrift ones.

littlebird2 · 11/04/2022 19:39

It's their money. Their choice. People spend crazy money on things all the time. Her dad is a multi billionaire. She was never going to have a bog standard wedding. Nor would I to be honest if I had their wealth.
The beckhams do a lot for charity.
Each to their own. Not worth losing sleep over really is it

SherbetDips · 11/04/2022 19:39

It’s their money, and they aren’t responsible for any of the issues the world is facing.
