Landlords assistant fuming that I’ve had 3 parcels…

I live in a flat complex with just 4 flats in it. I’m on the first floor and an elderly lady lives with her daughter (my landlords assistant) downstairs.

In the week I had two parcels delivered when I was at work, and there is no safe place apart from tiny postboxes. I’m assuming that they called their flat and they left them outside my door.

I then had another parcel come today, which I was in for- they buzzed my buzzer as usual (no one else’s) and I went down and collected it. The man said that apparently my neighbours were pissed that I’ve had “so many” parcels.
Anyway I took my parcel and went back up the stairs. As I went up, I heard their door open, the landlords assistant looked up at me angrily, turned around and shouted “fuck sake”.

This hasn’t affected her at all- it was my parcel, my buzzer went off and I went to collect it. Why was she fuming about that?! Our buzzers are quite loud and we can hear each other’s but that isn’t my problem and I hear theirs too and never complain. Especially in the middle of the day.

I just feel like I’m being made to feel extremely uncomfortable and can’t even order things to my own house where I live. I had 3 parcels this week and have rarely had any other deliveries.

I’m tempted to say something as I feel uncomfortable in my own flat… surely it’s down to them to get quieter buzzers or bigger postboxes, or a safe place - not my problem?

It’s not down to them to get bigger boxes or safe spaces.
Have them delivered to a parcel shop & collect, delivered to your work address or a pay for a named delivery day when you are in.

MrsWooster · 09/04/2022 17:45

Perfectly reasonable to have parcels delivered to your home. You pay rent and have a right to the enjoyment of your home.

animalscooby1 · 09/04/2022 17:45

Well the landlord owns the property so surely?
Also I was in today and she was still fuming…. She didn’t have to do or take anything. Why should I have to get my personal parcels delivered somewhere else, where I have to go out my way, even when I’m in.. just because the noise is slightly inconvenient for them?

It's fine getting parcels delivered, she sounds unhinged!

SilverBirchWithout · 09/04/2022 17:48

You need to find a delivery system that doesn’t rely on the goodwill of your neighbours, or at the very least ask them if they mind buzzing in a delivery when you’re not there.

They are a number of solutions:

  • arranging deliveries at days and times you will be there
  • delivery to your place of work
  • delivering to a friend or relative
  • use a drop-box
Nillynally · 09/04/2022 17:48

I'd be spending my Saturday evening doing some internet shopping if I were you! She's a twat, next time you see her ask her if there's a problem and then just laugh in her face.

ThinWomansBrain · 09/04/2022 17:51

if you know parcels are likely to arrive on a day that you're not in, and that your neighbours are not happy to admit delivery drivers on your behalf, use a parcel shop and collect at your convenience.

animalscooby1 · 09/04/2022 17:51

But I was literally in and collected it myself!! I understand if they were taking in loads of parcels constantly but they’re not

If you know you are going to be at work when your parcels are going to be delivered then get them delivered to work or a parcel shop.

In regards to today's parcel I expect her outburst was due to her expecting you not to be in and then having to deal with your parcel. I strongly suspect if you didn't get random things delivered when you are not in, she wouldn't have said anything.

I've actually shut the door in some couriers faces in the last month for trying to off load parcels on me for people who aren't immediate neighbours.

Viviennemary · 09/04/2022 17:52

You absolutely don't need to have your parcels delivered elsewhere. If you were one of those door answering refusers then she would have a point. But you weren't in and answered the door when you were in. I would say something though.

Darkstar4855 · 09/04/2022 17:53

I’d complain to the landlord about his/her assistant behaving abusively towards you. If she has an issue with your deliveries then she needs to raise it with you in an appropriate manner, not use offensive language at you.

incompetentcervix · 09/04/2022 17:54

You are a tenant you are entitled to get deliveries to your flat if you so choose it's 2022 FFS - if they don't want you to have deliveries they should have it as a cause in your tenancy agreement. You are paying them a lot of money to live there (I'd guess)

Gardeningcreature · 09/04/2022 17:54

I'm with Nillynally my debit card would be getting some use over the coming days as I spent my days ordering on line.😁😁😁😁😁😁

Ilikewinter · 09/04/2022 17:57

I dont understand the posters who are seeing their arses about the OP having parcels delivered to home. Nobody has forced the neighbour to take the parcels in, they could have just said no to the driver.
Anyway OP, carry on living your life and ordering what you want

SilverBirchWithout · 09/04/2022 17:59

I suspect the muttering today was after dealing with 2 other deliveries this week.
They do sound a bit unreasonable today when you were in fact in, but I guess you now know what they’re like.

oioimatey · 09/04/2022 17:59

Would you like to combine these items for fewer deliveries?
Checks the "no" box.

AndAsIfByMagic · 09/04/2022 18:00

YANBU to have parcels delivered while you are at home.

YABVU to expect other people to take them in for you. Get them delivered somewhere else. It's cheeky.

ComDummings · 09/04/2022 18:01

I’m petty as fuck so I would be ordering stuff every single day.

Omgwhatthehell · 09/04/2022 18:01

This is bonkers. Why shouldn’t you have a few parcels delivered to your own home which you pay rent for? It’s not your fault the buzzer is loud.
If they don’t want to take parcels and put them outside your door then they can just say no.
It’s a total non problem.
They would hate me. I have stuff delivered all the time! Our neighbours are nice though. To be neighbourly we occasionally take parcels in for them and vice versa.

OutingHobby · 09/04/2022 18:03

Can you get a sign that says something like "if you have a parcel for number 4 please only buzz flat 4"

OutingHobby · 09/04/2022 18:04

Though no reason whatsoever for her to get annoyed with you today

viques · 09/04/2022 18:04

What does “landlords assistant “ mean? Is it code for landlords spy or do they get paid keep communal areas clean, or get a reduction in rent for keeping an eye on things?

Bootothegoose · 09/04/2022 18:06

Wtf is her problem?!

Agree with PP that you should send it to a parcel shop where possible just to save the headache but if she does this again when you are collecting then knock straight on the door and ask what the problem is?

You are entitled to accept AS MUCH post as you want in your own home. If she has a problem with the noisiness she needs to move properties. Ground floors are loud.

Aconitum · 09/04/2022 18:06

Do your visitors buzz when they call or is that also an issue?

Itsbackagain · 09/04/2022 18:07

It's up to you to be in for your deliveries or to have them taken in by someone who is happy to do this. You're conveniently focussing on 1 delivery that you were available to take, not the two you weren't.
