Surely neighbour cannot park here?!

Diagram attached 😇

A new neighbour has taken to parking in the middle of the pavement. Literally at a diagonal outside their house with double yellow lines on the road.

Our road is actually a cul de sac (long road though) so it makes visibility really bad when coming onto the main road especially as there is a cycle lane. It also blocks the pavement so prams and wheelchairs can’t get past (big 4 x 4).

I don’t understand how that can possibly be legal and if not how he can have the balls to park there? They have a drive with parking for 1 car and the rest of the road is on street parking (admittedly does get full but most other households have one car as we are in london with great public transport).

What do I do?! Knock and just say don’t? Take a pic and report where? Police or council? I don’t want him to think I’m insane but it’s so selfish and dangerous.

Surely neighbour cannot park here?!

Report to the Police

Gizacluethen · 09/04/2022 14:12

I'd report, there must be somewhere on your councils website to report parking.

I wouldn't go round, can't imagine they'd actually listen to you.

PartyPlan · 09/04/2022 14:12

Utterly ridiculous, I assume wheelchairs and prams can’t get round him? I would leave a note on the windscreen.

Sexnotgender · 09/04/2022 14:12

Yeah they can’t do that 😂 report to the police.

Ducksurprise · 09/04/2022 14:14

Report to council, sometimes they can ticket on pavement if there are yellow lines (although where you live it may already be illegal to park on pavement)

AHungryCaterpillar · 09/04/2022 14:15

I would just report it I wouldn’t go round, they don’t seem like the reasonable type!

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 09/04/2022 14:15

There was a thread on here a little while ago about someone who got a ticket for parking in a layby/pull in that has double yellows between it and the road. Apparently the double yellows don't just cover from the middle of the road to the
DY lines, but all the way to the boundary between the pavement and the houses / front gardens / non highways property. So he could get a ticket for parking 'on' the double yellows.

www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/report/parking-issues/

Most police forces have this kind of information on their websites, this one has a nice list of what is a council issue and what is a police issue. You can see that your neighbour us breaking the law in a few ways. So yes, report him to the police.

Porridgeislife · 09/04/2022 14:18

Pavement parking is illegal in all 32 London boroughs unless explicitly permitted with signage.

Report to your council as they are responsible for enforcing parking.

FieryPitOfMordor · 09/04/2022 14:19

Isn’t pavement parking actually illegal in London unless there’s a specific exemption? So you might get a bit more interest from authorities in terms of doing something about it.

DropYourSword · 09/04/2022 14:20

Perfect diagram OP.

NO, they absolutely cannot park there. Especially given there's double yellow lines.

lunar1 · 09/04/2022 14:24

Why on earth do they think that's ok! Full marks for the diagram @RishisPA

Is OP in London?

Mumsnut · 09/04/2022 14:26

Send photos. I have heard of someone being fined just on the basis of a photo

Wouldn't matter if they aren't. Can't park there with there being yellow lines.
IncompleteSenten · 09/04/2022 14:28

Don't bother going round.
If they gave a flying fuck about anyone except themselves they wouldn't park like cunts in the first place. Take photos and report.

Harridan1981 · 09/04/2022 14:29

And doesn't pavement parking just mean mounting the kerb, in effect? As against parking on the pavement?

GeorgesMarvelousCalpol · 09/04/2022 14:30

Excellent diagram 👏 😃
I hate this shit parking, especially when walking with a buggy.

OP says she is in London

Lou98 · 09/04/2022 14:32

@BoredZelda

From the OP: as we are in london

Lou98 · 09/04/2022 14:32

YANBU - that's a ridiculous way to park!

Boscoforever · 09/04/2022 14:34

Best diagram ever!
Definitely report online if you can, it's so dangerous for wheelchair/pram users, especially on a corner of a busy road.

Floralnomad · 09/04/2022 14:36

My sister ( not in London) had a similar problem and she reported it to the council with photos and they leaflet dropped the area explaining what was and wasn’t allowed and warning of action and fines if it continued ( we didn’t know where the offender lived ) . It worked as it hasn’t happened since .
