Surely neighbour cannot park here?!

Diagram attached 😇

A new neighbour has taken to parking in the middle of the pavement. Literally at a diagonal outside their house with double yellow lines on the road.

Our road is actually a cul de sac (long road though) so it makes visibility really bad when coming onto the main road especially as there is a cycle lane. It also blocks the pavement so prams and wheelchairs can’t get past (big 4 x 4).

I don’t understand how that can possibly be legal and if not how he can have the balls to park there? They have a drive with parking for 1 car and the rest of the road is on street parking (admittedly does get full but most other households have one car as we are in london with great public transport).

What do I do?! Knock and just say don’t? Take a pic and report where? Police or council? I don’t want him to think I’m insane but it’s so selfish and dangerous.

Agree it is an immediate danger as it is impeding motorists views of traffic (as well as being a barrier to anyone in a wheelchair)

It might even impede the fire brigade.

Some people are so incredibly selfish.

Report and keep reporting every day!

NewYearCalavicci · 09/04/2022 17:33

Wouldnt it be a shame if someone had to squeeze past and had something sharp sticking out of their bag / pocket or a DCs bike handlebars caught it and scratched the paintwork .

I agree with reporting it to the local council and police .
If you have a local FB page post some photos on there to but make sure you cant be identified , take photos from 2 or 3 different spots.

Cameleongirl · 09/04/2022 17:35

I like the diagram! Of course YANBU.

kimfox · 09/04/2022 17:36

I just want to congratulate you on the perfect diagram! I honestly only clicked on the post to check if there was one 😂👏

shssandhr · 09/04/2022 17:36

Yeah report.
We had similar here but they weren't on the pavement but too close to the junction and blocking a whole lane which meant people had to pass on the other side of the road which was very dangerous as you were then directly in the path of traffic turning in which couldn't see round the corner due to the way the junction is.
I was about to report it (after 4 days of the car constantly being there) but then it had moved (onto the drive of the people they were presumably visiting every day). I think they just didn't want to block other people in so decided to park dangerously on the road. Ridiculous.
I assume someone else reported it and they got fined/warned.

TirednessButHappiness · 09/04/2022 17:40

Excellent diagram!
Yanbu.

I’d probably leave a note explaining that it is reducing visibility at the junction etc and see if they take notice.
Hopefully the council will respond though.

Booboobagins · 09/04/2022 17:40

Def not legal, they're AHs! Report them.

NewYearCalavicci · 09/04/2022 17:41

PS 100% for the drawing Grin

Lunificent · 09/04/2022 17:57

I hope you send the diagram to the council as well.

Iheartmysmart · 09/04/2022 18:00

There’s an idiot round by me who parks on the pavement like that. Double yellow lines along both sides of the entire road but all of the houses have a garage and tandem parking for two cars. He doesn’t like having to move cars around to get his off the driveway so that’s where he parks it. Lazy, entitled prick.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/04/2022 18:04

@Lunificent

I hope you send the diagram to the council as well.
This will 100% help if the council employee is a MNer. She will appreciate the effort.
TyrannosaurusRegina · 09/04/2022 18:13

It is an immediate danger. If a wheelchair user attempted to squeeze round it or go on the road to pass, they could tip off the kerb/be hit by a car.

RishisPA · 09/04/2022 20:14

The offending car if anyone wants to see it!!

Lovely shiny paintwork on that car. What a shame it would be if lots of birds pooped on it. Got any birdseed OP? A handful on the roof/bonnet would be so kind to our feathered friends at this busy time of year for them.

NewYearCalavicci · 10/04/2022 09:31

Or it there are no willing birds near by

Chasingsquirrels · 10/04/2022 09:34

What is the cone for?

Is it actually blocking the pavement? The diagram shows it doing so but the picture makes it look as if there is loads of pavement around it.
Regardless it shouldn't be parking there.

FOJN · 10/04/2022 10:07

I only opened the thread for the diagram and it didn't disappoint. Grin

Chely · 10/04/2022 10:11

Loads do that round our neck of the woods, nothing seems to be done about it.

RishisPA · 10/04/2022 14:20

@Chasingsquirrels cone is over some recent work I think. At that moment you could fit past but it’s often parked at an angle or further onto the pavement which does obstruct it!

OP posts:
scotvic · 10/04/2022 18:01

Try to get a photo of it that includes a person with a buggy, pram or wheelchair trying to squeeze past on the pavement ( and getting pushed out into roadway) to demonstrate it is a dangerous obstruction. Report to Council and Police

Londoncallingme · 10/04/2022 18:19

Yes.

Poptasmagorical · 10/04/2022 18:43

The house opposite mine has a new occupant who does the exact same thing on the corner despite having a drive!! The whole street is so jammed Because people don't use their driveways but parking on the path just takes the complete piss.
