Surely neighbour cannot park here?!

Diagram attached 😇

A new neighbour has taken to parking in the middle of the pavement. Literally at a diagonal outside their house with double yellow lines on the road.

Our road is actually a cul de sac (long road though) so it makes visibility really bad when coming onto the main road especially as there is a cycle lane. It also blocks the pavement so prams and wheelchairs can’t get past (big 4 x 4).

I don’t understand how that can possibly be legal and if not how he can have the balls to park there? They have a drive with parking for 1 car and the rest of the road is on street parking (admittedly does get full but most other households have one car as we are in london with great public transport).

What do I do?! Knock and just say don’t? Take a pic and report where? Police or council? I don’t want him to think I’m insane but it’s so selfish and dangerous.

Surely neighbour cannot park here?!

I sometimes see this type of parking in the local high street on the corner. Absolutely awful

Chloemol · 09/04/2022 15:34

It may depend where you are in London but I be,I eve throughout London parking in the pavement is illegal

I would take a picture and send to police and your local authority

BlueOverYellow · 09/04/2022 15:44

Don't engage. Just take a picture and call the police.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 09/04/2022 15:46

Report to council and police. He's blocking the view of anyone turning at that corner which is dangerous in itself. Let alone the double yellows...

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 09/04/2022 15:46

Do not engage with him personally.

Comefromaway · 09/04/2022 15:48

That is bonkers parking. And yes, illegal as you are in London.

Definitely report to the council.

Fantastic, clear diagram by the way.

MarvelMrs · 09/04/2022 15:55

Don’t tell them at all. Just report. That is so inconsiderate and dangerous. Wheelchair users, mobility scooters and buggies cannot get round their car safely. The pavement is for these users and pedestrians not cars.

ExMachinaDeus · 09/04/2022 15:57

Call the police, council parking wardens and tell you neighbour that they are parking illegally and totally inconsiderately.

then take a photo and post it on your local Facebook group and also on a local “You park like a cunt” website

Some people are just selfish fucking arses.

@GaspingGekko

Absolutely nothing to add OP other than to say that your diagram is a genuine thing of beauty.
Agreed!
Sugarplumfairy65 · 09/04/2022 15:59

If they are blocking the pavement so that a wheelchair cannot get past they are causing and obstruction. That's a police matter so report to the police

WalkingOnSonshine · 09/04/2022 16:00

Do you live where we live?!

I’ve reported a number of people for parking and blocking the pavement, each time the police have gone round and had a word.

Ohmnomnom · 09/04/2022 16:05

What a knob. That's incedibly dangerous as young children would have to walk out into the road to get round him.

RishisPA · 09/04/2022 16:11

Thanks all. Had a look online and it says unless it’s causing an immediate danger and would impede emergency services (it wouldn’t) to report via council which I have done with photos. I’ll see what the outcome is and if nothing will go via police next time. It’s every day so hopefully even if the stop round randomly it will be there. Thanks for all the diagram love!

The problem with arrogant tossers like that is that they don’t think they are in the wrong and because you are a neighbour they may give you aggro. I would not leave a note or knock on the door but report them anonymously.

Jules912 · 09/04/2022 16:27

It's illegal to park on the pavement in London unless signage states otherwise, as I discovered the hard way when I parked in an end bay ( it was a row rather than individually marked bays, all half on the pavement) and was a foot over.

QuebecBagnet · 09/04/2022 16:33

Double yellow lines count on both sides including verges and pavements. So illegal.

2bazookas · 09/04/2022 16:40

INform police and local council. It's not legal and she may force someone into the road with a pram or wheelchair

You said it was blocking the view for cars turning in and out. That's causing an immediate danger. Every single time a car tries to turn in it is causing an immediate danger to all road users and pedestrians.

It would be anyway as it is parked actually on a corner. That too constitutes and immediate danger.

Benjispruce4 · 09/04/2022 16:51

Selfish and inconsiderate of wheelchair and pram users. Report.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 09/04/2022 16:59

Report.

chisanunian · 09/04/2022 17:02

You cannot park there, and especially not because of the double yellow lines - you're not allowed to park either side of them, whether on the carriageway side or the footpath side. Does your local council have a parking enforcement department?

I'd call the plod.

Queenoftheashes · 09/04/2022 17:09

Someone did this on my road. Fully on pavement I was flabbergasted. Took photo and reported to council who had a team for parking and said they’d send someone round.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/04/2022 17:10

On the corner and on the pavement, making it doubly dangerous. Wankers.

Good job reporting.

It is an immediate danger. You can’t park that close to a junction because it blocks visibility and that makes it dangerous for vehicles exiting the cul de sac.

I’d report to police and council.

Bootothegoose · 09/04/2022 17:20

Pictures, pictures, pictures.

Report to the police, the council and to the neighbourhood social media channels.
