Surely neighbour cannot park here?!

Diagram attached 😇

A new neighbour has taken to parking in the middle of the pavement. Literally at a diagonal outside their house with double yellow lines on the road.

Our road is actually a cul de sac (long road though) so it makes visibility really bad when coming onto the main road especially as there is a cycle lane. It also blocks the pavement so prams and wheelchairs can’t get past (big 4 x 4).

I don’t understand how that can possibly be legal and if not how he can have the balls to park there? They have a drive with parking for 1 car and the rest of the road is on street parking (admittedly does get full but most other households have one car as we are in london with great public transport).

What do I do?! Knock and just say don’t? Take a pic and report where? Police or council? I don’t want him to think I’m insane but it’s so selfish and dangerous.

Surely neighbour cannot park here?!

Looks illegal from your pic as not only are they parking on the pavement they are also blocking the view if you want to pull out the junction

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/04/2022 18:47

Everyone parks like that here, I'm horrified, police/traffic wardens do nothing about it!

CountryMouse22 · 10/04/2022 18:48

If its on the pavement it's an obstruction.

wentworthinmate · 10/04/2022 19:13

You cannot park on of either side of double yellows. Contact the traffic wardens or whatever they're called these days.

Crankley · 10/04/2022 19:13

This gives me the rage. I use a mobility scooter and often get dickheads who block pavements, or who park on dropped kerbs which people need when using scooters and wheelchairs.

I always take a note it pad and stick it on their windshield, saying to the effect that their parking is extremely thoughtless and the next time I see them parked illegally I will superglue my note on an A4 sheet of paper on their windshield.

Haven't used the superglue yet.

whynotwhatknot · 10/04/2022 19:37

on a yellow line you can still get done for that round here

my dsis partner was on the pavement and got a fine because of yellow lines

RishisPA · 10/04/2022 19:55

I reported it when I originally did the thread and I will ring the council on Monday and follow up with it. I’ll also take daily photos and might leave a typed polite note on the windscreen asking them not to park there. I need to get a life but now every time I walk past it I get the rage! I might just not be so careful bundling children and a pram past it.

I was slightly disappointed you included the diagram in your first post, OP. You should really wait until your second or third post (after a few requests) to build anticipation.
However I second a PP, it is indeed a Thing Of Beauty.
Yes to reporting it to the council. My council’s traffic wardens would have this ticketed or towed within about 15 minutes.

RishisPA · 10/04/2022 20:15

@BobbyeinArkansas that’s great- I just did an online form so it felt slightly anti climactic and no one has come round (it was done on a Saturday so v much doubt it’s picked up yet). Would you ring to report?

Not only is it on the pavement as an escape from yellow lines it also looks like driver is blocked corner view (& blinking blocking pavement in a really dangerous position) report to police & take a photo showing his reg number

Ikeptgoing · 10/04/2022 21:25

I wouldn't leave a note or anything you can be seen doing by neighbour. You've reported it and ask for your details to be kept anonymous but uploading photos including of yellow lines snd car blocking access on pavement, and different angles and days to show car clearly on pavement - be subtle when you are taking photos for your own sake.

Alliswells · 10/04/2022 21:45

@FOJN

I only opened the thread for the diagram and it didn't disappoint. Grin
Same!!!!!!

It is a bloody brilliant diagram though.

AmandaHoldensLips · 10/04/2022 21:52

Don't smear vaseline on the windows preferably windscreen as you walk past. That would be very inconvenient for the owner.

Cherms · 10/04/2022 22:23

We regularly have these 2 cars blocking the pavement in our little town (not London). There literally isn't a form that exists to fill out to complain. They aren't on the road so it's not X council. They aren't causing an emergency blockage so it's not the Police. They aren't in a designated car park so it's not Y council. It's not possible for me to report them so I'm super envious of London forms 😂

Dou8hnuts · 10/04/2022 22:33

Causing an obstruction to pedestrians and safety issues with it being a junction, it should be 90cm gap for wheelchair users. Report to the council it’s not safe at all

LoisLane66 · 11/04/2022 00:28

Regardless of what other people tell you, here are the facts. Parking on a corner is forbidden.
Parking on the pavement is illegal as there are double yellow lines which still apply no matter whether you are on the pavement with 2 or all 4 wheels.
Your COUNCIL, not the police, are responsible for parking offences.
Usually the County Council not the Borough or Town Council but it might depend on where you live.
Take photos on different days from all angles: front, back and side to show the difficulty in observing the main road as you exit your road.
Email the parking office with the photos and copy it to your MP's office so they each are in the loop.

@RishisPA

I'd probably ring to complain however knowing my council, it would be fruitless but they'd direct me to the website. However I'd continue to follow up intil it was dealt with, via email or otherwise.

But I probably wouldn't leave a note for the neighbours - you don't want to risk antagonising them and causing issues with people you have to live in close proximity to. Just leave it to the council. Persevere if you don't hear from them and cite concerns for prams and wheelchairs, attach a photo and your excellent diagram if necessary. :-)

Have you asked your local councillor to advise you? I would have said they are causing an obstruction of the pavement and therefore it is the police - have you tried to report to the police?
Deb311 · 11/04/2022 15:20

I work for the police and we tend to send PCSOs to these complaints. It is illegal so they would knock on and have a word or at least ticket them. It is illegal to park on the pavement x

Maisymoomoo22 · 11/04/2022 18:56

Pity someone with a buggy or pushchair that needed to pass would try and get by on the inside of the car scraping the paintwork, because why should they put the life of their child in danger by trying to pass on the road side of a vehicle that shouldn’t be on a pavement meant for pedestrians

Cherms · 11/04/2022 22:33

@carefullycourageous whilst sympathetic no one can say who exactly is responsible. I emailed the PCSO, no response. I Messengered the town police team, no response. I emailed X and Y councils on the closest email address I could find. No response. No one but me seems to care.

carefullycourageous · 12/04/2022 07:14

@Cherms sounds crap Brew

My local councillors have a surgery, and go to meetings where you can have a quiet word, maybe that would help?

Also my other top tip is if your elected councillors won't help due to laziness/complacency, tryt o find out who is standing for the opposition, they are often very keen to take up casework!

Fulmine · 15/04/2022 18:08

Have you managed to get any sense out of the council, OP?
