Surely neighbour cannot park here?!

Diagram attached 😇

A new neighbour has taken to parking in the middle of the pavement. Literally at a diagonal outside their house with double yellow lines on the road.

Our road is actually a cul de sac (long road though) so it makes visibility really bad when coming onto the main road especially as there is a cycle lane. It also blocks the pavement so prams and wheelchairs can’t get past (big 4 x 4).

I don’t understand how that can possibly be legal and if not how he can have the balls to park there? They have a drive with parking for 1 car and the rest of the road is on street parking (admittedly does get full but most other households have one car as we are in london with great public transport).

What do I do?! Knock and just say don’t? Take a pic and report where? Police or council? I don’t want him to think I’m insane but it’s so selfish and dangerous.

Surely neighbour cannot park here?!

Excellent diagram!

Only thing to do is paint "YPLAC" on the sides of the car, and then report it to the police.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 09/04/2022 14:39

Our neighbour was a retired chief inspector which was fab as when new neighbours started parking like dicks, we all had letters through the door on police headed paper reminding us of parking law and warning us we’d receive fines if current situation continued. Honestly, that letter made me soooo happy!

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/04/2022 14:40

That is disgusting. I wouldn’t confront them. I would report to the council with photos.

GaspingGekko · 09/04/2022 14:41

Absolutely nothing to add OP other than to say that your diagram is a genuine thing of beauty.

CrazyTimes123 · 09/04/2022 14:46

Top diagram OP !

And 4x4 drivers don’t have to follow the rules the rest of us do. They’re high up and important.

SpiderVersed · 09/04/2022 14:46

Gold star for the drawing!

It’s illegal. The police won’t do anything but the council will.

PinkWisteria · 09/04/2022 14:47

A parent started parking like this outside our primary school - on the pavement parallel to the zigzags and adjacent to the pedestrian crossing. Several parents reported this online after a having friendly word was met with verbal abuse - essentially that he would park where the fuck he liked and that he didn't give a shit about the safety of anyone else's children, just his own. Don't know exactly what action was taken but he no longer parks there.

JustOneMoreNameChange · 09/04/2022 14:51

Councils are responsible for enforcement of pavement parking in London.

You can report online to the met police but it's unlikely they will do anything unless you get video footage of the mounting the pavement in a way that would be classed as dangerous driving.

Report online here:

balalake · 09/04/2022 14:51

Report them 100%. Again if they just behave for a few days and then revert back to this.

I wonder if they are someone who finds reversing in and out of a drive difficult because they won't admit that their eyesight has deteriorated?

carefullycourageous · 09/04/2022 14:53

Very good diagram, an example to others!

Report to the Police/Council, do not bother going round - anyone who parks like that is not going to listen to you.

TheNameOfTheRoses · 09/04/2022 14:56

Don’t bother to go and. See them. You’ll just get abuse and it won’t change anyth8ng.

Report to the police.
Each time you see the car parked there.

It’s nit just that there is no visibility. It’s the fact that people with pushchairs, wheelchair etc would struggle to go past if he stays on the pavement. Nit on.

Wnikat · 09/04/2022 14:57

It's illegal to park on the pavement in London, though I have no idea who you report to.

littlefireseverywhere · 09/04/2022 14:58

Yes report to council or police, whoever is needed in your borough.

Great diagram too!

SolasAnla · 09/04/2022 14:59

@BoredZelda

Pavement parking is illegal in all 32 London boroughs unless explicitly permitted with signage.

Is OP in London?

OP top marks for the diagram love your handwriting.

And a vote for calling the police rather than a house call.

@BoredZelda

Yes its in the post
the road is on street parking (admittedly does get full but most other households have one car as we are in london with great public transport).

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/04/2022 15:00

Great diagram!

billy1966 · 09/04/2022 15:05

Take photographs and report.

AndrewPreview · 09/04/2022 15:10

Lovely diagram 10/10 Star

Take photos and report online if you can

WTF475878237NC · 09/04/2022 15:11

No useful new insights at two pages in but I have to join the chorus and post a congratulatory message on your excellent diagram.

Clymene · 09/04/2022 15:15

Excellent diagram and I would also bypass the friendly chat. Any one who parks like that is a selfish arsehole and won't take kindly to being told it's illegal.

BoredZelda · 09/04/2022 15:17

@SolasAnla read it 3 times and missed that 😂

Beautiful3 · 09/04/2022 15:21

Send photos and log with 101 police.

AdoraBell · 09/04/2022 15:22

⭐️ For your diagram OP 😁, definitely report to the council.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 09/04/2022 15:22

Do not go round to them.
Report it.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 09/04/2022 15:24

Yes that’s a Dickhead place to park. There’s one who parks In a similar fashion near my youngest DCs school, it makes getting out an actual nightmare because you can’t see. Report it

springtimeishereagain · 09/04/2022 15:24

Don’t park on the pavement unless signs allow it
The Highway Code states that you shouldn’t park your car even partially on the pavement, unless roadside signs permit you to do it. In London there is an explicit blanket ban on pavement parking, whereas everywhere outside the capital you need to watch out for areas where it’s not illegal to do so.

From www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/uk-news/pavement-parking-rules-you-need-23416297.amp

So yes, report him.
