Does anyone sell on vinted?

I saw the ad in TV last night have downloaded app and been browsing.

The intention is to get rid of stuff I've been meaning to for ages but I haven't done this before and so my main question is how do I know what to set as a postage cost?!

I fear I may end up spending more than making but we will see.

Any tips for a new seller!

Can anyone tell me why people reserve things on vinted? I’ve noticed it recently but what does it mean? So it’s like getting the seller to hold the item for you? I didn’t know you could do this and there seems to be no button option to reserve something? So how does it work? I few things I was watching have been reserved but the items are only very cheap anyway like £3 so not sure why they allow someone to hold it instead of letting someone else buy it? And they can reserve for 5 days Why do sellers agree to hold something? Sorry if they are silly questions just wondering what the reason is for it?

It might be cheap but maybe it’s the exact size/colour/whatever the buyer wants and they don’t have sufficient funds.

As primarily a seller, I’ve not been asked to do this and would only consider it on an item that wasn’t getting a lot of views or I was expecting to be much less popular in some way. Serves no purpose for the seller that I can see. I thought if it was reserved the seller makes it temporarily invisible so how can you see them?

its just been listed this morning, I clicked on it but was doing something so didn’t buy it so I went on again to search for it again and it didn’t come up anymore. I clicked in my search history and it showed it to me and said reserved for 5 days, item is only £3, can see why the seller would agree for a high value item or one that had been on sale for a long time like you said but this was listed about an hour ago. Just wondered why the sellers agree as doesn’t make much sense for the seller I’m guessing the person doesn’t have to buy it after 5 days?

I've just sold my first item on vinted, it was really easy and the money was in my account the day after the buyer received the item. There are a lot of chancers on there though - I sold a mulberry bag for £450 in pretty much perfect condition, and I had about 7 offers from people asking if I'd sell it for amounts between £200-300. Why would people think that a seller would give them such a big discount on the listed price? I can understand offering £50 below the asking price, but not £250 below!

I can't understand this either, I've been asked to do it when someone wanted to buy a large bundle but then of course they disappeared so I've never done it again. When people ask I always say that I don't reserve items but of course they are welcome to buy it if it's still there when they can afford it etc

From Vinteds information a reservation is made by a buyer first contacting the seller asking for a reservation, and the seller then accepts or rejects

I can’t see exactly how to do it, as the options I see on items are to ‘make an offer’ or ‘buy’
There isn’t anything that I would buy right now so I have not clicked any further to see whether they have subsequent options, or whether you would send a message and the system would trigger by picking up the word reserve

CandyApplePie · 16/05/2022 13:43

Ah thanks both, just seems odd to reserve something for £3 I would have bought it but now she’s holding it for 5 days for someone who might not even end up buying it, makes no sense really. If it was very expensive I would get it. Hmm just will have to be quicker next time and not plan to come back to it an hour later!

People just ask for a cheaper price anyway, and might be asking for a little bit off or an entirely cheeky major drop.

I had a paintball gun for sale for a while (I think it took me up to two years to sell it)
It was a pretty pricey model at up to £1800 new, but was also a ‘special edition’ with the standard at around £1500 - £1600.
I had actually paid a lot less than that with the trade price via a company.
It was rarely used by me (less than 5 times) and was only getting used on loan.
I saw a few second hand standard ones being sold for around the original price I had paid, so rather than have it sat for other peoples benefit I put it up for sale - on the basis that I didn’t need the money but if I could get that much before the price drops then it’s better in my wallet than a cupboard.

I was regularly bombarded with low offers, all declined to their disgust and I was regularly told I won’t be able to sell at that price - never mind as I can keep it then
I was told it’s not special as it’s just a colour scheme - fair enough, you can buy one of the many others then
That my extras from the original release weren’t worth the extra - don’t buy it then, buy a newer model
(There was in fact an upgrade part to fix a flaw in certain circumstances - Mine didn’t suffer from the flaw but had the upgrade part fitted plus the original part included, with more spares & service kit etc)
I was also told that my ‘special edition’ wasn’t rare - get one of the others then, and that x shop was listing that so they could buy a new one of the colour scheme - go on then (though I knew that shop didn’t actually have any - I was aware of two that had originally come into the country including mine)

After nearly two years I was made a reasonable offer and it was sold, I also managed to get some more plays out of it myself pending selling than beforehand as ‘just one last time’ days

Unless you really can’t deal with the hassle, in which case online selling isn’t really for you, then politely decline and don’t let offers get to you

I was just a bit bemused about the low offers, I’ve sold on eBay for years and I’ve never had people offering less than 50% of the stated price, I certainly didn’t let this ‘get to me’ - there were no sleepless nights 😂

CandyApplePie · 17/05/2022 20:47

sorry another one but this has happened twice now, but has anyone had the seller not upload postage details so vinted automatically cancel the sale, then you receive the item after?! This has happened to me twice now and both times I’ve had the seller message me annoyed that I have been refunded yet I never complained or opened a case (not even sure you can do that?!) and it’s just automatically refunded because postage details weren’t uploaded by seller, I’ve only recently started using vinted and this has already happened twice

PanicAtTheDisco2000 · 17/05/2022 20:57

I have noted a tracking issue on the last 3 items I have sold. I send the item (via Evri), but the tracking doesn’t appear in the message chat with the buyer, whereas it did so straightaway previously. Or rather it appears a few days later when Vinted prompted me to confirm I have posted it. When I confirm that, the tracking info shows up. Bit weird really. I always take a photo of the receipt and upload that straightaway so I don’t have to hold onto them and remember what item it is for if there is an issue. So maybe your seller didn’t confirm they’d sent hence a refund

Thanks for the info. They’ve asked me to buy it again if they upload it again is that the best way to do it don’t know if I should offer to send the money through pay pal instead? Just don’t want the same thing to happen!

PanicAtTheDisco2000 · 17/05/2022 21:45

That’s your call but then is outside of Vinted so I wouldn’t be too keen on that. Try again is all I can suggest but ask them to watch out for a Vinted prompt that they’ve posted it. It’s a bit annoying when it worked properly before.
