Does anyone sell on vinted?

I saw the ad in TV last night have downloaded app and been browsing.

The intention is to get rid of stuff I've been meaning to for ages but I haven't done this before and so my main question is how do I know what to set as a postage cost?!

I fear I may end up spending more than making but we will see.

Any tips for a new seller!

Watching with interest. Thanks OP!
I've sold on eBay for years but DD13 loves Vinted.

Our home printer is broken though.

BastardtheCat · 09/04/2022 09:12

Just spotted a Louis Vuitton bag on there for £585 - high priced items are definitely on there.

HoboSexualOnslow · 09/04/2022 09:16

I like it. I tend to put things a bit higher than I want for it then I can 'offer' a lower price when someone favourites it.

If it's Evri you can print your label at the drop off point (i think)

I use Vinted & EBay. My fave is Vinted as it’s just sooo easy, no seller fees and the postage is paid. However like a pp I have had to drop items to quite low prices to shift them sometimes as they’ve been hanging around. I’ve found EBay better for higher priced items and handbags. I’ve got a brand new Gina Bacconi dress I want to shift & it’s been on Vinted for a few weeks with no interest so I’ve popped it on ebay today
I’ve got a Vinted pile to upload today actually. Love it!
Stock up on postage bags

I’ve just started selling on there after getting fed up with eBay seller fees, which really don’t make it worthwhile to sell cheaper items. So far, I’ve found it much easier than eBay, although I find the idea that things can sit on there for ages a bit strange. It’s so quick to list I feel much more like I may as well try and sell stuff on there before it goes in the charity bag.
I haven’t properly explored the Hermes/Evri postage options yet, have just been putting £2.90 for small parcel Royal Mail, didn’t have time to weigh etc before listing, I’ll try and use these with the next lot because it’s cheaper.
Love it for buying too

I've been thinking about trying Vinted and on the strength of this thread, I think I will. I came off eBay because it turned into a scammy, hard to navigate pile of crap. There's a corner shop near me that does the printy labels.

CanIbeRio · 09/04/2022 10:27

My dd has just started using it. We are a bit confused re payments. Am I right in thinking unlike ebay funds aren't available til buyer has received the item or vented release them?

DilemmaDelilah · 09/04/2022 10:31

I use hinted and have sold a LOT of stuff over the past few mnths. However I have put them on for very low prices. For me it is a way to recoup some no st on items I can't wear that would otherwise go to the charity shop. Because the buyer arranges the delivery of us really easy. You can choose to remove any courier you don't want to use. I have removed Royal Mail because I can't get to the post office until the weekend. For some of the couriers you will need a printer to print the label. I invested in some proper tough postage bags which make things easier. I get excellent reviews praising the quick delivery and excellent packaging. I have only had problems with 2 deliveries, both with Yodel. One was very delayed, and one has been lost. I advise taking a photo of the parcel before it is sent and marking the receipt with a reference to the item you are sending, so that you have evidence of there is a problem.

Can I sell without having to print postage labels. No printer!

JessicaPeach · 09/04/2022 10:39

You can't print Vinted labels for Hermes at a parcel shop, you have to print them yourself.

mistermagpie · 09/04/2022 10:43

I don't sell but buy a lot. I love it, it's cheaper than eBay as people tend to be more realistic about the value of second hand clothes, plus I use the Evri parcel service so the postage is cheaper.

Tips for sellers - if I favourite something and then the seller reaches out saying they can post that day or they can knock a couple of quid off, I usually buy the item. This seems to be quite common on Vinted. Good clear photos also make a big difference to what I will buy, if you have to zoom in loads or try to figure out what colour something is because of poor lighting then I won't bother looking.

ballsdeep · 09/04/2022 10:46

Is it easy to sell children's clothes too

endofthelinefinally · 09/04/2022 10:48

Do you need a paypal account?

When you are choosing the postage items click ‘see sizing and compensation details’ under each option

They list all the options that a buyer would get and the dimensions / weight limit for each of them

BeautifulDragon · 09/04/2022 11:13

I love Vinted! I've sold £250 worth in the last year, all items that I previously would have given away.

Really easy to use. But I definitely recommend selecting which postage options you will accept. I had a few buyers select RM and it's a right pain. Usually I just print the label and take to my local corner shop, so simple!

ASaucerfulOfSecrets · 09/04/2022 11:25

@MintJulia

I have a question about Vinted. How up-market does it go? I have a formal silk Margaret Howell evening dress that, following an op, I can no longer wear.

Would Vinted work or do I need to sell it somewhere else?

Have a look at Vestaire Collective for that kind of thing. It's a more upmarket Vinted but they can also do authentication if the buyer requests. I've bought a few Mulberry bags from Vestaire, probably wouldn't buy anything like that on Vinted as returning is a pain and there are fakes on there.

@HoboSexualOnslow - no you can't print off hermes/(now called evri) labels in the shop from vinted in the way you can do normally

There was a thread about this the other week and I've been caught out. Basically if you sell the 'normal' way and choose evri (standard costs of 1.69 for small item, 1.99 for medium etc) which is almost always the cheapest, they only send you the label already to go, so you print it yourself. They don't give you a qr code that you can then print in a cornershop.

The way to get around this is to choose 'pick your own postage' or similar. You set the amount you think it will cost, and then when you sell something you can buy evri/royal mail or whatever yourself. they ask you post a pic of the receipt and/or tracking number once you've sent it. So it's slightly more of a faff but doable. I would say check the cost of whatever service you'll be using BEFORE you send, because I put the usual £1.69 but couldn't get postage cheaper than £2.60 so lost out.

TidyDancer · 09/04/2022 11:27

I've just started looking at using this. With eBay, the fees involved are ridiculous and it's heavily (and unfairly) a buyer's market in terms of feedback. Depop was better but I had some abuse on there from a really vile scammy buyer and they were abysmal at dealing with it so I came off there completely and wouldn't ever deal with them again.

latetothefisting · 09/04/2022 11:29

Oh one other thing - when you sell something they automatically put it in like a vinted holding account, so that if you then buy something the money comes out of that. I'm sure you can 'withdraw' it to your bank account fairly easily if you wanted but it's not automatic like it is with ebay.

Also if anything is wrong with the item you need to raise it immediately, otherwise after 2 days they will release the funds and give the seller a 5 star rating, and it's too late to dispute it.

Ewanismydreamsheep · 09/04/2022 11:35

Under profile in settings there’s a postage option and you can choose which services to use

AHungryCaterpillar · 09/04/2022 11:42

I do like it but one thing that makes me laugh is people selling items with rips or stains and then saying “only worn once” 😂

Porkbuttsandtaters · 09/04/2022 11:43

How do you know how much to set as postage for Hermes? When I’ve sent stuff with them in the past I’m sure I’ve had to measure the box and put in the destination postcode and the weight? I like the idea of stopping at the Hermes drop off point.

Correct

When you make a sale it goes into your ‘holding balance’, and then after it has been delivered with no problems raised by the buyer then it goes to your ‘available balance’

Funds will sit in Vinteds available balance until you withdraw or spend it

PS
In the screenshot I have a current sales balance totalling £57.50, but £10 of that sold yesterday and was posted this morning. So I have £47.50 available and £10 pending
