Does anyone sell on vinted?

I saw the ad in TV last night have downloaded app and been browsing.

The intention is to get rid of stuff I've been meaning to for ages but I haven't done this before and so my main question is how do I know what to set as a postage cost?!

I fear I may end up spending more than making but we will see.

Any tips for a new seller!

What are the acceptable postage times? I can't get there everyday so may be 3-4 days before sending us that ok?

@RubertRoo

Vinted is great..I use it a lot for selling! The buyer buys the postage so you don't have to sort that. You select, when listing an item, the size of the package so small medium large I think small is up to 1kg, medium up to 2kg, and large up to 5kg (with most postage options) I tend to just select medium for most options anyway to cover myself. Then when they buy a shipping label is sent to you which you print off and take to a parcel shop. It's so much easier than Ebay
That doesn’t sound easier than eBay at all!

I don’t have a printer to print off a package label. With eBay I specify the postage (I won’t use Hermes/Evri as they’re rubbish so use Royal Mail tracked) and when an item sells I just take it to the post office. Same with DePop, Vinted sounds a bit more faffy from this description

DoubleChinWoes2 thanks that’s good to know.

eerk That’s ok I think, for me it’s the lack of communication really, I bought something on Friday and the seller messaged me immediately to tell me she will post it on Monday if that’s ok. The person who I bought from a week ago hasn’t sent it or messaged me.

I signed up yesterday and it says to post within 5 working days.

I've sold my first item after only signing up yesterday. I'm sending by Royal Mail as it's more convenient for me. I selected 'small parcel' and the buyer has paid £2.15 postage. However, I've bought pre-paid postage online and it's only cost me £1.05. What happens now? Does the buyer get refunded when I upload the postage receipt? Or do I risk receiving bad feedback for overcharging even though it's not me that's decided the postage cost?

This happened with an item I bought. The seller contacted me and offered me the £1.00 reduction.

In my case I'd paid so little for the item I asked the seller to keep the £1.00 - that I wasn't worried about it - but if she was she could always pop it in a charity box next time she was out and about.

Forevergold2838 · 11/04/2022 10:07

Clevs any discrepancies in postage I've had have just gone un disputed. I've underestimated postage sometimes and had to cover the extra and overestimated on occasion. I think it's just one of those you win some, you lose some and the buyer was happy to pay that amount to post so I wouldn't worry about it.

I’ve just started selling on Vinted, after seeing this thread and have already made £45 selling a few things. My items seem to be selling faster too.
So far, so good.

Good things - the audience seems older and less likely to mess you around. I used to sell on Depop and get a lot of people low balling & wanting free postage basically 🙄
I also get endless requests to measure things, which I don’t mind doing but then the person never messages back to say thanks, which I think is rude.
It’s also great that the seller gets no fees, a big plus for me!

MangoLipstick · 11/04/2022 10:15

*that should have read ‘I got endless requests on depop to measure things’

I’m selling on DePop and eBay and although I’ve sold a couple things on DePop, eBay is selling a lot more and faster so been also considering Vinted but the postage etc sounds a faff.

What annoys me about DePop is messages saying, hi is this available? Or hi can you give me measurements please? and I respond saying, yes still available or giving measurements and then radio silence, just so weird.

Snooks1971 · 11/04/2022 18:11

Hi experienced Vinters - I’ve sold a few things over the weekend and dropped them off at the Hermes parcel shop this afternoon.

Can anyone tell me please - does the status automatically update on the Vinted sold listing with the Hermes (Evri) update?

The listings are still telling me to take the parcel to the nearest drop off point which I’ve already done Confused

Forevergold2838 · 11/04/2022 20:56

Snooks1971 try attaching a photo of your delivery card.

Forevergold2838 · 11/04/2022 20:59

Snooks1971 you're right, it should automatically update through.

Snooks1971 · 12/04/2022 07:53

@Forevergold2838 thank you, I will see if it updates today - possibly after Hermes have picked up from the drop off shop?

TheGlitterati · 15/04/2022 19:23

Sold 5 things on Vinted within an hour of uploading the entire contents of my house (or so it feels!) Grin brilliant!

Dairymilk50 · 15/04/2022 19:30

I personally prefer Depop despite the fees.
I find the clientel different people on Vinted expect things for literally £4 it's like they don't want to pay a fair price. I've had this with new items from places like Zara too.

StoneofDestiny · 15/04/2022 20:13

Vented is great - sold lots. I hadn't realised they sold books too - some great ones in there and saves you going to hunt round charity shops.

Riverlee · 15/04/2022 20:50

I brought a couple of things of Vinted recently, all very easy.

One item didn’t arrive so I messaged the person, simple explanation that husband hadn’t dropped it off at the post office yet. All very straightforward and item came a few days later.

TheGlitterati · 15/04/2022 23:04

Yeah everything has gone for peanuts tbh but I’d rather get something for it than nothing which it would be if I took it to the charity shop. The good news is because it’s so cheap, I can buy stuff very cheap too.

Forevergold2838 · 16/04/2022 04:19

TheGlitterati it's great isn't it, that's how I see it too. The clothes don't owe me anything and if I sell for cheap then I buy for cheap too. I've had some really good stuff, I've just bought an evening bag for a wedding for £4, brand new with tags, originally £20. I think its fantastic for people on a budget. I've bought my whole wedding outfit off there, would have normally cost hundreds but I've spent about £35 total and I'll resell it all afterwards. I also bought an evening outfit, beautiful m&co jumpsuit, immaculate and fits like a glove, £3.50!! No trawling through charity shops and actually easier to search for stuff than buying new online as you can search by colour etc.

Sorry for the rambling! I've got covid induced insomnia!!

notanotheraibu · 17/04/2022 06:33

Is there a way to search for sellers that offer discount on bundles?

PurpleDrain · 18/04/2022 11:23

Inspired by this thread I’m going to start selling today.
Any tips for photos?

Take a few from the front showing the whole item, collar close up or any pattern close up, take photos of the rear also and if footwear show the underneath to show any wear. I like photos of the item being modelled so you can see how it fits but that is time consuming but if you have lots.

You can offer discounts on a bundle with the discount increasing the more they buy which is a good incentive to clear a few things at once.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Doublevodka · 18/04/2022 12:03

I’ve just downloaded the app to try and start selling a few things. However, I don’t have a printer. Can someone tell me the easiest way to sell without a printer? As in, which courier service is the least faff for printing a label nearby etc?

I'm new to it to so not really sure if you can do this...but if you send by Royal Mail it may be possible to hand write the address label because you still get proof of posting when you take it to the Post Office.

I may be wrong though and someone with more experience of selling than me may come along to correct me.
