Does anyone sell on vinted?

I saw the ad in TV last night have downloaded app and been browsing.

The intention is to get rid of stuff I've been meaning to for ages but I haven't done this before and so my main question is how do I know what to set as a postage cost?!

I fear I may end up spending more than making but we will see.

Any tips for a new seller!

This is purely through the app I think and not available on laptop? How then do you print labels?

Any packaging tips?

Where's the best place outside if Amazon to get them? Any high street stores I could go to? What size would you suggest ?

When your item is sold the notification includes a link to generate the label, you can then both open it from the message and from a confirmation email

As well as the app you can also log into the website

www.vinted.co.uk

At first I just saved the website, but I missed the notification of my first sale for a couple of days

eerk lots of vinted sellers (myself included) use carrier bags turned inside out and then parcel taped. Perfect size for most clothes and nice and sturdy. You really don't need to worry about the parcel looking nice as long as it keeps the garment clean and dry. I also sometimes use the little net bags you get in sainsburys for fruit and veg as an inner packaging.

Forevergold2838 · 09/04/2022 18:22

For those of you selling make sure you take lots of clear photos, also worth writing in the description that you'll take more photos on request. I'm currently looking to buy a fascinator, you wouldn't believe how many sellers put one photo on. I want to see it being worn, I want to know if its on a clip or hairband, I was to see how big it is. Same with handbags, buyers need to know the size-does it hold a mobile phone/a laptop? Does it have an internal zip? Show pictures of any damage.

Another tip when a sale goes through is to have a little chat. Just thank them for buying, send a message to say if you'll be delayed posting it and then another to say its on its way. When it arrives say thanks again and you hope they enjoy the item. It just makes the sale more pleasant and you'll get better reviews which will help you sell in the future. I've had lots of lovely little interactions with buyers in the past and on the odd occasion somethings been wrong they've been understanding and still given me a good review.

It's actually great fun when you get into it. Some absolute bargain to be had too. My latest was an m&s tote back, still for sale online for £30, I bought it for £3.50. Immaculate condition. I dont think I'll ever go back to buying brand new now.

@Porkbuttsandtaters

How do you know how much to set as postage for Hermes? When I’ve sent stuff with them in the past I’m sure I’ve had to measure the box and put in the destination postcode and the weight? I like the idea of stopping at the Hermes drop off point.
It recommends the price for you £1.69 if its a small t shirt or thin dress, or kids clothes, £1.99 if its a bigger dress or jeans or whatever, then another one up for coats, shoes, etc.

I like the ones that say "never worn" with a picture of them wearing it! Also the "never worn/brand new with tags" that absolutely stink of washing liquid/fabric softener when you get them.

Thanks for this, it is actually what I was thinking of doing but wasn't sure if that would be ok.

Great tips on here also.

I did want to start buying less brand new and my thought was that it would be through charity shops, but now I've found this. I don't even need to leave the house.

I considered Vinted a while ago but was put off by the dreadful customer reviews on Trustpilot and another couple of sites. 84% of users gave it a 'bad' rating (over 5.000 reviews) That's worse than poor or average! It's good to hear the positive reviews here though am still wary. A shame as Ebay is a nightmare.

AHungryCaterpillar · 09/04/2022 20:44

I’ve had 3 things delivered from there now after only discovering it this week and they’ve all been good. I’ve noticed someone used a carrier bag inside out which I thought was a good idea!

lesgalettes · 10/04/2022 00:05

Why would the carrier bag need to be inside out?

Popsicle33 · 10/04/2022 01:18

It's great. Very easy. It's a million times better than eBay!

Anna197264 · 10/04/2022 09:15

How do you make an offer to people who have added an item as a favourite? I’ve not had email notification which is how I usually do it. Is there another way?

eerk · 10/04/2022 09:18

I think just to give it a more plain packaging look than anything else.

I ordered a load of the plastic postage bags from eBay. Think it was about £7 for 50 bags.

Forevergold2838 · 10/04/2022 12:06

Anna197264 I dont think you can message them directly but if you drop the price of the item it then comes up in their notifications.

TheGlitterati · 10/04/2022 12:43

Ooo i downloaded the app yesterday to try selling on it as eBay’s fees have got ridiculous. Thanks all!

I wonder if that could be because vinted was originally targeted at a much younger audience than ebay, i.e. teenagers? That's why it's app only. The user bases has grown since then but that was the original market and I doubt your average 16 year old would be evaluating sites on trustpilot. I'm an average 30odd year old and I've never used it.

When I've had to get in touch with vinted support they were pretty helpful and came back to me quickly, although it is annoying that they still haven't sorted out the issue of posting if you don't have a printer, which has been raised to them since it started.

I've downloaded it today because I'm struggling to shift some clothes on EBay.

I don't understand the postage though. I've only selected Royal Mail for now as it is the most convenient for me. My Hermes collection points are a couple of miles away, Yodel is 5 miles away etc. but I have a Post Office within walking distance.

So far I've only put a dress on there till
I get my head round it, but I don't understand how to or who works the postage out. I've listed the item but don't remember getting asked for a postage cost.

Also, dresses are classed as a medium parcel on Vinted, but if I send Royal Mail it would only be a small parcel. Is that right? I don't understand!

Someone please talk me through in plain English about how I add a postage cost. And whether small/medium etc. correlates to Royal Mail small/medium parcel or if it's completely separate descriptions.

JessicaPeach · 10/04/2022 17:18

Vinted small would be large letter Royal Mail, medium would be small parcel. Doing it via Royal Mail is a bit of a faff really.

AHungryCaterpillar · 10/04/2022 22:38

What happens if someone doesn’t send an item? I bought something a week ago and not posted or any message. I know a week isn’t long (would be on eBay but I don’t know what the norm is for vinted) but I want to know if I can get my money back if people just don’t send things?!

DoubleChinWoes2 · 11/04/2022 07:03

Yes, it should be automatically refunded or you can cancel the order and select that the seller didn't send or have any contact with you. If they've done it before, they'll get automatic bad feedback too
