Does anyone sell on vinted?

I saw the ad in TV last night have downloaded app and been browsing.

The intention is to get rid of stuff I've been meaning to for ages but I haven't done this before and so my main question is how do I know what to set as a postage cost?!

I fear I may end up spending more than making but we will see.

Any tips for a new seller!

Re- no printer. Ive just posted on a local community fb site and asked for help.

Answers are local to me, but sellers offer only Yodel and RM. They are able take the bar code to one of two local shops that can print Yodel labels for them. Our post office will also print RM labels ( or these can be handwritten and receipt uploaded to Vinted as proof of purchase).

Maybe this is about what is local to you.

I find Royal mail much easier. Its too much faffing looking for who prints what. There's one called sunflower or something... never even of heard of it until I needed to print the label. Utter faff

DoubleChinWoes2 · 18/04/2022 13:21

You'll sell less with royal mail option only. If something is £5, I resent spending £3.20 on postage, plus you've got the fee on top too. I only buy from non-royal mail options

notanotheraibu · 18/04/2022 14:23

I agree Royal Mail seems more hard work and costly

MangoLipstick · 18/04/2022 14:35

I don’t have a printer and just use Evri (Hermes) as the parcel shop for drop off is less then 10 mins walk away.

I’ve been selling in Vinted for 2 weeks now, the only gripe I have about it is it seems to be taking a long time for my funds to be released? I gave nearly £70 sat in pending despite all the parcels arriving at to customers 5 days ago. Some of money was released but is now saying it will take up to 5 days to go in my bank? Is that normal? Hmm

How do you print the labels if no printer yet?
MangoLipstick · 18/04/2022 15:26

@notanotheraibu

I book and pay for postage on Evri website. You get a code sent to your email, which you then scan in once you are at the parcel shop. It prints the label off for you.
It’s very quick.

TheLadyDIdGood · 18/04/2022 15:28

For those without printers, I've printed stuff off at my local library for xp per sheet.

5 days sounds too long to me, the notifications that I have show 2 days

eg An item was delivered on Friday the 15th and my notification was “xxx has received their order. You’ll receive payment automatically by 17 Apr 11:01, unless the buyer reports an issue during this time”

But on the Saturday I received the message “Your sale of xxx was completed successfully.”

(Presumably because the buyer had up to two days to raise any issues, but acknowledged they were happy with the item on Saturday)

The bank processing might be up to 5 days allowing for money transfers, and ideally should be quicker I have not withdrawn any Vinted money yet - I’ve spent rather than withdrawn

Tomikka · 19/04/2022 16:03

I think to ensure that you can avoid a printer as long as your carrier methods offered can be printed in store at a drop off or you add your own custom methods.

My sales so far have only been via Evri/Hermes, which do have print in store but I don’t know if you can use the generated label via your phone
Someone else may be able to advise

It could effect your buyers as my first purchase recently offered me free postage and payable postage
Delivered to me would have cost something, and collect from store was free

If you are doing custom postage then you will need to pay the postage and therefore will want to charge for it

(As it was just my first purchase I don’t know if I had a starters free postage credit or if it will continue to be free for some options)

Clevs · 01/05/2022 17:21

How long is acceptable to allow buyers to pay? Someone made me an offer on something two days ago and I accepted straight away but she hasn't paid yet.

I can't see any guidelines anywhere in the help section. Do Vinted send a reminder to pay like EBay do?

I will send her a message sometime but just wondered if there's any guidelines before I give her a nudge.

TheGlitterati · 01/05/2022 17:22

@Clevs i expect she’s a changed her mind

mynamesnotMa · 01/05/2022 17:48

I buy loads on it. Though I'm sick off vintage tat.
Hermes are the absolute devil though.

It's not like ebay in this way. Until you actually buy then you don't have to pay. Offers are simply offers until it all goes through.

90sBritPop · 02/05/2022 00:10

I might set up a Vinted account. I’ve had lots of stuff on DePop for months now and only a few things have shifted. Seems things sell quicker on Vinted.

Anystarinthesky · 02/05/2022 03:16

I'd be grateful if someone could advise me.

I would like to sell a coat on Vinted for £60, what is the best way to post it to get insurance covering it?

Royal Mail was very expensive and I can't seem to find prices elsewhere.

Thank you.

If you want to chose a preferred method then couriers are cheaper than Royal Mail / Parcel Force.

On eBay etc I offer my defaults as Royal Mail signed for 2nd & 1st, and if it’s large or heavy Hermes/ Evri, but on Vinted I have been leaving it to their selection

But the default with Vinted is that they list a selection of options based on the size you pick (click for more info to see which methods those include)
The buyer then chooses their preferred option

You can adjust your options for which methods get listed, or add your own custom choices

Siameasy · 03/05/2022 19:31

I love it. The best thing is if I see something in the shops I look on there before buying. Got a nearly new pair of Toms £3 and several pairs of jeans £1.50 each to cut into shorts. It’s cheaper than a charity shop.

Tomikka

Thank you so much for your reply.

Joyfulflowers · 06/05/2022 07:15

I've just started to use Vinted and this thread has proved very helpful. Uploading is so much easier than EBay.

I have a couple of questions for the more experienced sellers:

How do I edit a listing? Have played around but can't see how to do this

With regards to offers, someone has asked me to sell an item for a third less than I was asking (item brand new, still cheaper than others on the site), I'm happy to offer a small discount so how do I go about doing that?

Tomikka · 06/05/2022 09:27

@Anystarinthesky

As a timely follow up regarding postage insurance etc I’ve had a package that didn’t arrive.

The courier tracking marked it as delivered, the buyer messaged Vinted that they hadn’t received it

I was asked by Vinted for a description of the package, and ‘following investigation’ I’ve been notified this morning that Vinted have both refunded the buyer and paid out to me.

It was sent via Evri/Hermes using Vinteds postage options but to the buyers home address rather than a drop off point.
The proof of delivery should include a photo (I don’t know if that happened, as Vinted deal with the carriers)

As I used the default options and not my own custom postage Vinted have dealt with it all, and I have not lost out
If I had used custom postage then payment would have been refunded from me with my problem to resolve it with the carrier or prove successful delivery

Ultimately Vinted & Evri have to sort this one out between themselves.
For me the difference was that my payment sat in the pending area for a couple of days longer (and a niggling worry in the back of my mind in case I lost out)
Had this been with eBay or custom Vinted postage then it would have been down to me to liaise and prove delivery / claim the insurance compensation

Allthe4s · 06/05/2022 12:50

I set up on Vinted a month ago. Read reviews and wasn’t sure how quickly things would sell. I’ve made £200 in less than a month off 17 items. Some of it has gone for £5, I also had a few nice items that went for £10, £20 and one for £30.

Most of my stuff was more expensive brands (Boden, Hush, Ted Baker, John Lewis, Joules etc. if that makes a difference I don’t know. Some of the items go for what seems like a really small amount relative to what you might have paid - but I think it’s the collective value rather than a one off (for me anyway). For me it’s space and also mentally thinking recycling is good and some money to put towards something else.

super easy to do IMO.

Anystarinthesky · 06/05/2022 13:34

Thank you again, Tomikka, excellent advice from you. Thank you for taking the trouble to post it.

Clevs · 11/05/2022 17:43

Does anyone know how I get a QR code to print a postage label at an Evri drop off point?

My printer isn't working so I can't print at home at the moment. The barcodes on the address label don't work with the scanner/printer in store as it needs to be a QR code but I don't know how to get that instead of a postage label.

If I click on 'I don't have a QR code' on the in-store printers it then goes through the process to create a label but then wants to charge at the end, which I can't do as the postage has already been paid.

You can't, they don't let you print Vinted labels in store for some reason
