Rishi Sunak’s wife is NOT elected OR in a public role but she is a woman

Have you noticed that Zac Goldsmith (elected), Mark Carney (role of significance to all of us as Govenor of the Bank of England), 4th Viscount Rothmere (controlling shareholder and Chair of the Daily Mail) all have non Dom status but no mention is really made. However, a woman, who has no public role, has never said anything public, is being criticised for her non Dom status?

And yes she’s getting massive dividends but I imagine as it’s family money there is a massive pre-nup in place so it’s not like Rishi will be able to run off with it!

Because we only had targeted testing in March 2020

And we knew that older people were at the greatest risk. So the tests should have been targeted at those people.

jgw1 · 12/04/2022 13:09

@JaniieJones

'Indeed. So why send them into care homes without testing to infect all the existing residents?'

Because we only had targeted testing in March 2020. So only those deemed high risk with complex medical problems and symptoms were tested. Going from 3k tests in March to 100k in Apr then 1m weeks after was pretty good going. Better than many other countries.

Should everyone have been kept captive in hospital for a month until more testing available? Then they would have certainly caught it and sadly died anyway.

'The Nasty party fan club got to nasty. It is nice that they are so open about it'

The nasty party fan club, oh dear. The desperation to insult! I'm not in a fan club and they aren't a big smelly nasty party either.

They did well in the pandemic better than Jezza or Keith would have had a hope of and Bozo is doing brilliantly supporting Ukraine. I know it must sting. You can but hope Pippa/Dom and Brand dig out those 'waayyyy better snaps from the flat party soon. The suspense!

@JaniieJones "but Jeremy Corbyn" is so last year, please refrain from using that particular squirrel any more. Instead you have to say "but Boris knows what a woman is because he has had so many".

When the inquiry into how Covid was handled takes place, there will be lots of questions about Covid testing.

Especially with how it took a LONG time to get the right labs involved, an obsession with outsourcing - despite there being a lot of labs with the right experience ready to step up.

Blossomtoes · 12/04/2022 13:18

Who’s Keith? And Pippa? And Brand? Is there some parallel universe I don’t know about?

@Blossomtoes

I think it is Peppa. Big Dog did a speech about them.

It is in the parallel universe where the government planned ahead from the time it knew there was a novel virus and made suitable preparations and so on.

Bless.

Cost of living is going to be the issue worrying a lot of Red Wall MPs

Add to a disdain of people not following Covid rules
Covid affecting pubic services still
Brexit causing disruption.

If I were a Red Wall MP, I would be worried
If I were an MP with a narrow majority and the Lib Dems doing well in my area, I would be worried

rainingsnoring · 12/04/2022 13:22

'They did well in the pandemic better than Jezza or Keith would have had a hope of'

You have no idea how well Corbyn would have done because he was never the prime minister.
It seems to be one of those rather pathetic defences of the Tory's utter ineptitude, lies and shit show in general. Make a totally unsubstantiated retort rather than detail what the Tories have actually done that is so marvellous. Clue, they haven't done anything marvellous or you would obviously be telling everyone about it as an avid Tory defender.

Keith - Starmer. Childish, but so is Bozo so I'm just joining in. Pippa crerar and Paul Brand are 2 very intelligent serious journalists who provide gritty, hard-hitting journalism. I think Brand will hope to feature on if not Strictly, then maybe iacgmooh? Just my prediction.

'Cost of living is going to be the issue worrying a lot of Red Wall MPs'

There's been a pandemic, it needs paying for and this is a global issue.

jgw1 · 12/04/2022 13:31

The rate of inflation in France is 3.6%, in what is it in the UK?

Notonthestairs · 12/04/2022 13:31

No wonder Sunak had one foot out of the door.

Peregrina · 12/04/2022 13:40

There's been a pandemic, it needs paying for and this is a global issue.

I don't know if you ever noticed that raising taxes to pay for things involves a political choice. Boris Johnson's choices have so far centred around giving money to his mates - money which could have gone a long was to helping pay for the costs incurred by the pandemic.

Notonthestairs · 12/04/2022 13:50

Expensive bit of cake.

DrBlackbird · 12/04/2022 13:50

You can but hope Pippa/Dom and Brand dig out those 'waayyyy better snaps from the flat party soon. The suspense!

Seems the suspense is over.

SleeplessInEngland · 12/04/2022 13:52

Just watch, there'll still be Johnson defenders despite the news.

SleeplessInEngland · 12/04/2022 13:53

And I doubt he'll resign. If he didn't before why bother doing it now? Clearly his MPs are cowards.

RedToothBrush · 12/04/2022 13:54

Did you hear the one about the time that Rishi got fined for breaking the rules he'd help write?

What do you mean 'the one time'?

The Breaking News about him and Johnson getting fined, REALLY doesn't make this story about Non-Doms and Greencards look any better.

Notonthestairs · 12/04/2022 13:56

Well we know he's good to pay for it at least. Johnson will have to check down the back of an expensive sofa.

SleeplessInEngland · 12/04/2022 13:58

Sunak should resign and make Johnson look even worse. A nice parting shot.

RedToothBrush · 12/04/2022 14:02

@Notonthestairs

Well we know he's good to pay for it at least. Johnson will have to check down the back of an expensive sofa.
Is that the sofa he bought for Carrie, or the one that he got some party donor to buy for him until it became apparent that he wasn't allowed to do this, so he had to cough up for it himself along with the non John Lewis (cos thats tasteless apparently) wallpaper?

That sofa?

I'm sure if he asks nicely he can get one of his Russian mates to discreetly 'lose' one down there when they next come to visit.

Notonthestairs · 12/04/2022 14:13

The donor sofa will definitely have some cash wedged in the back.

Fuck sakes. How can they cock up like this? Hand your green card back when you get elected, follow the admittedly tough pandemic legislation you approved, don't get donors to pay for your refit, don't hand out government contracts to friends and family, approve suppliers and contractors using governmental email address not your family WhatsApp.
It's not rocket science.

Notonthestairs · 12/04/2022 14:14

Oh and don't lie to Parliament.

DuncinToffee · 12/04/2022 14:52

@Notonthestairs

He can't ask Carrie for it as she needs it for herself

@DrBlackbird

But at least Boris knows what a women is, he has many of them and likes to party with them.

@Notonthestairs

Come on, you know Rishi will try and write it off as a business expense.
Clavinova · 12/04/2022 17:27

Fulmine

@ Clavinova it apparently doesn't matter to you that he kept quiet about the green card

A Treasury spokesman said Mr Sunak had declared his green card arrangement to the Cabinet Office in 2018, when he became a Minister.

Clearly Sunak understands the problems better than you do...If he really thought there was nothing wrong, his wife would still be claiming non dom tax relief and he would be telling all and sundry to publish and be damned.

As per my previous link, Stephen Kinnock offered to pay taxes of £40,000 he didn't owe - his wife went on to become prime minister of Denmark;
Mr Kinnock has agreed to pay taxes in Denmark for last year [2009] - even though he is not obliged to do so - in an attempt to kill off the row.

It's also interesting that Johnson hasn't been bothering to try to counteract the view that he was responsible for leaking information about Sunak.

The Guardian;
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Johnson said he had not known about Murty’s tax status. Asked if the prime minister knew Sunak had held a green card allowing him US residency, the spokesperson said: “I haven’t asked him with regards to the green card. But it’s not a requirement to provide that information to the prime minister.”

Worth noting that Starmer was highly rated by women's support organisations for his stance on rape prosecutions when he was DPP.

Mixed views actually;
