Rishi Sunak’s wife is NOT elected OR in a public role but she is a woman

Have you noticed that Zac Goldsmith (elected), Mark Carney (role of significance to all of us as Govenor of the Bank of England), 4th Viscount Rothmere (controlling shareholder and Chair of the Daily Mail) all have non Dom status but no mention is really made. However, a woman, who has no public role, has never said anything public, is being criticised for her non Dom status?

And yes she’s getting massive dividends but I imagine as it’s family money there is a massive pre-nup in place so it’s not like Rishi will be able to run off with it!

If indeed Boris has leaked this, it’s retaliation for lack of support for party gate. Nothing to do with morality.

This party is rotten to the core, this just deepens the view that it’s one rule for them and another for us.

StormzyinaTCup · 12/04/2022 08:46

On what is a woman, last year there were over 60,000 reported rapes in the UK, 1500 convictions... now i'm sure that being able to biologically describe a woman on TV is vital to you but i might suggest that 58500 (mainly women) might prefer some sort of justice having suffered horrendous sexual abuse.

Yes, and whilst that figure is shocking, it's only going one way if you start letting men into women only spaces.

So yes, appearing on TV and being able to state clearly what a biological woman is, is vitally important to me and it should be to every woman in my view. I mean BJ made a good speech and sadly it needed to be said at the top level but at the end of the day we are talking primary level science here.

Fulmine · 12/04/2022 09:26

Worth noting that Starmer was highly rated by women's support organisations for his stance on rape prosecutions when he was DPP.

Fulmine · 12/04/2022 09:27

It's also interesting that Johnson hasn't been bothering to try to counteract the view that he was responsible for leaking information about Sunak. It looks very much like the stance of the bully-boy flexing his muscles.

It is nice to see that we have a new version of "but Jeremy Corbyn" that has to be introduced to every and any thread that dares to criticise the current government.

I am debating the merits of changing my slogan from "but Jeremy Corbyn" to "Boris knows what a woman is, because he has had to many".
Do we think this is a good idea?

So we aren't permitted to call Labour out on their cock ups past and present and you’d prefer an echo chamber?

Why does that not surprise me.

Oh and thoughts on your new slogan seeing as you asked, it’s way too long. You need to keep it short and sweet so maybe ‘Boris has balls’?

You can call Labour anything you like. I just find it highly amusing that those who choose defend the worst government in my lifetime do so by going, "but Boris knows what a woman is because he has had so many".

There was a half hearted attempt by a poster to tell us what good this government has done, it didn't go well.

Peregrina · 12/04/2022 10:04

Boris talks bollocks - much snappier.

awaynboilyurheid · 12/04/2022 10:04

jgw brilliant idea! So fed up of the old, but Jeremy Corbin and the new what a woman is ..for every disaster of this corrupt shower.

MarshaBradyo · 12/04/2022 10:06

The issue is important to me though

I don’t want to have to not mention it because it invites sarcasm from some

We respond to different issues and that’s fine.

Blossomtoes · 12/04/2022 10:09

@Tillsforthrills

I think Blossom meant that while KS stance on women has turned many off voting for them, identity politics will be sacrificed by voters hit hard by the Tory induced cost of living crisis.

As families struggle with basic needs like heating and eating, the Tories and their corrupt self serving elite will become even more intolerable.

That’s exactly what I meant.

The issue is important, which is why its use should be condemned everytime it is used as whataboutery to defend from whatever calamity the current government have brought upon themselves this time.

A few Labour policies here for anyone who’s interested.

That would work as a Labour slogan, doesn’t really work as a Conservative one though Smile
Peregrina · 12/04/2022 10:18

I am not in the business of providing slogans for the Tory party though.

jgw1 · 12/04/2022 10:21

@Peregrina

May I suggest a slogan that would work for the Tories and Labour alike.

Not Boris' cronies.

Of course they would have to realise that Boris is not going to win another election and get rid of him first, and there is little evidence that anyone in the Tory party actually has a spine and the sense to do so.

Blossomtoes · 12/04/2022 10:25

I’m glad they’re in no hurry to get shot of him. I don’t think he’ll be as much of an electoral asset at the next election as they think he will.

SueSaid · 12/04/2022 10:27

'There was a half hearted attempt by a poster to tell us what good this government has done, it didn't go well.'

Didn't it? It was perhaps sidestepped because people just cannot argue with 'what good this government has done well' ie furlough, vaccines, hospitals coping with the massive covid surges, the massive support for Ukraine, Zelenskyy has said repeatedly how involved BJ is and leading on sanctions, supplies etc.

They want to talk about Bozo's hair and that he ate cake, so if we're going to complain about 'yes but comrade Corbyn' we should perhaps put a stop to 'yes but Bozo ate cake and needs do comb his hair'.

He'd already lost the votes/support of the 3 million self employed/freelancers he excluded from covid support.

Now he's losing a few million votes/support of those who can't afford to "heat and eat".

No one will be left to vote/support him at the rate he's making enemies!

EvilPea · 12/04/2022 10:32

I don’t want world beating vaccines though.
I want world supporting vaccines. There’s a big difference. Even if it is just the phrasing. It’s a worldwide pandemic

Blossomtoes · 12/04/2022 10:35

OK @JaniieJones, let’s talk about discharging untested people into care homes and killing tens of thousands of old people. Or spending £37 billion on a useless Test and Trace system - most of which went into Baroness Harding’s pocket. Or the plethora of VIP lane contracts awarded to Tory allies. Or the acute shortage of PPE. Let me know if you want any more, there’s plenty where that came from.

Soffit · 12/04/2022 10:42

"The trans rights issue hasn’t hit Labour at all if polling’s anything to go by. Not saying anyone’s wrong to care about it, but it’s hard to exaggerate what a non-issue it is for voters not on mumsnet or segments of Twitter."

THIS
As for "but Jeremy Corbyn" they still absolutely love him in London (outside of K&C) and seemingly always will. The voice and demeanour completely changes when his name is mentioned in conversation.
They also happily back Labour and it's stance on trans rights.
It is the reason why I find myself making a swift exit from most face-to-face conversations about politics!

SleeplessInEngland · 12/04/2022 10:43

Wait, are we now pretending that the UK handled covid well despite having the biggest death toll in Europe?

Handouts in exchange for boosting his optics, cleverly concocted by Carrie & friends.

Wait, are we now pretending that the UK handled covid well despite having the biggest death toll in Europe?
You need to look at excess deaths. Where did this biggest death toll originate?

Was it Labour? I’m sure it has been bandied about on radio

Anyway The Economist excess deaths is a good place to look excess deaths per 100k
