30 miles for a duvet

Sorry, this is quite tedious!

Our duvet and pillows got accidentally damaged and we had to replace them quickly. DH insisted he needed a 15tog king size duvet and two pillows. Highest tog at Tesco nearby was 13.5. Not good enough. Only alternative was the Range which had 15 tog King size but was 30 mile round trip.

So we drove there tonight, I just got inside before closing and managed to get the last 15 tog king size in the shop (£39.99 expensive, right?). Result. Also instead of getting two pillows I just got one very thick one which has four removable layers, a reasonable compromise I thought. He was waiting in the car outside.

Not good enough. He was annoyed that I'd paid nearly £40 for a duvet and insisted that I have to go to buy another pillow tomorrow and won't even try the thick one I bought.

I had to laugh at this and he asked me what I was laughing at. I said I thought he was being a bit precious and demanding (he has lots of previous form for this).

He's now not speaking to me and is sitting in the other room.

Well, was I unreasonable to pay £40 for a duvet and only to get one thick pillow when he'd asked for two?

Why on earth did he wait in the car?! If the duvet / pillows are only for him I would just leave him to buy his own!

HalloHello · 06/04/2022 21:55

Why did he not choose his own duvet and pillows if he is so fussy and doesn't have to please anyone else???

kennelmaid · 06/04/2022 21:58

Why didn't he go in the shop and choose his own? Because he was wearing a hi viz jacket and he would be embarrassed Grin

  1. Why did he drag you to the shops, can't he buy his own stuff?
  2. How did he manage to find a duvet online but not realise how much it costs?
  3. One pillow is not enough but he can buy it himself
kennelmaid · 06/04/2022 21:59

Yes, four layers inside one cover so that you can vary the thickness to your own specifications

YABU about the one pillow, not the duvet

Easterisoffeggstooexpensive · 06/04/2022 22:01

Separate shopping trips.
Or just separate everything.. Sounds like a twat.

Crankley · 06/04/2022 22:07

I don't understand the hi viz jacket problem. Is it superglued to him? If not why could he not take it off? Why did it matter if he wore it into the shop anyway?

How can you stand this nonsense? He sounds ridiculous.

ikeepseeingit · 06/04/2022 22:08

I honestly don't understand why he took you all the way to the shop, for his own duvet that he wanted, then sent you in alone, and got angry when you didn't get it quite right? He could have just gone in himself right after and got a refund if he didn't like it? 🤣

Justmuddlingalong · 06/04/2022 22:10

His behaviour makes him sound like a sleep growbag would be more suitable.

LadyCatStark · 06/04/2022 22:11

HIBU for moaning and for making you go into the shop for him but the pillow sounds weird sorry!

toomuchlaundry · 06/04/2022 22:11

Why couldn’t he just go on his own?

Exactly this. What a waste of your time and thoughts. He sounds like a totally ineffective man.
LampLighter414 · 06/04/2022 22:14

Do you have to accompany each other on all excursions from the home?

Why couldn't he go himself?

OutingHobby · 06/04/2022 22:15

Wtf...? No he should have gone in there and chosen his own duvet. The pillow does sound annoying though tbh. But can't you just give him yours rather than mess around?
piglet81 · 06/04/2022 22:16

This is twelve flavours of baffling.

rocksonrocks · 06/04/2022 22:18

15 tog!!! I wish!!

My husband is a human incinerator at night so we have a 4.5 tog super king with a little single 10.5 tog underneath just for me.

But in relation to your OP, tell your manchild husband to sort his own bedding henceforth.

CaptainHammer · 06/04/2022 22:18

…he could have taken the jacket off?!

Ah I thought that but then saw they got there just before closing.

The hi viz jacket thing is so weird. Did it have something rude printed on it?q

Momijin · 06/04/2022 22:19

That's very cheap for a duvet and he should have gone in himself if he is that fussed. I need a few separate pillows though.

bellac11 · 06/04/2022 22:20

Im interested in the adjustable pillow though, I have just looked at the Range online but cant see anything about it

Mybestyear · 06/04/2022 22:23

Apt username OP! He sounds horribly controlling and disrespectful. I’d tell him to sort his own stuff out.

marjayy · 06/04/2022 22:24

Why are you doing all this traipsing about?

Can't he go to a shop himself or order one online?

Akire · 06/04/2022 22:30

Easy to think a pillow is pack of two especially todays prices. I was looking at pillow case ranged from £16-30 for one!!!

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 06/04/2022 22:32

What a baby he sounds, I can understand a 13 year old being embarrassed to wear a hi viz in a shop but how does someone so pathetic hold down a job that requires hi viz?
