@Comedycook

La senza
Isn't Boux avenue similar? It is owned by Theo Paphetis, he sold La Senza. I loved la senza and now live in boux avenue Mollie bras. I think la senza had a better range of silk nightwear though

@Maireas

I used to love Richard Shops
That's going back many years, my wedding dress came from there £3-10s !

I miss Tie Rack, I used to buy men's silk shirts from there, I'm tall and broad shouldered so they were great. I recall buying OH some silk boxers from there and saying to OH as the purchase was being rung up 'What will you say to your wife when she sees them?', the poor assistant's eyes almost popped out.

Spoils! Loved it in there.

nostylenoclue · 04/04/2022 14:25

There used to be a restaurant chain called Fatty Arbuckle's. It had a vintage Hollywood vibe and the food (in enormous quantities) was just amazing. It was always the place I chose to celebrate my birthday. Our family often remember it fondly. I wish they'd bring it back ................

cobblers123 · 04/04/2022 14:49

cobblers123 · 04/04/2022 14:49

Gizacluethen · 04/04/2022 14:52

Woolies and Debenhams cafes!

Squiff70 · 04/04/2022 14:59

Dorothy Perkins high street stores
Debenhams

When I was little in the 80s, my mum used to shop at Super Scoop. It was LOADS of bins, each containing ingredients such as sugar, flour, oats and dried fruits. Mum used to go and weigh out the exact amount for her baking projects so there was no waste (or room for error!) and from what I recall it was ridiculously cheap!

cobblers123 · 04/04/2022 15:07

Wimpy bar

Would go there in lunch break sometimes with my friend. Used to have a Wimpy burger with a glass of Coke or sometimes a cheese and tomato roll, which thinking about it, was horrible but choice was a bit limited in those days.

@catgirl1976

The was a restaurant ages ago called Old Orleans in York.

My mum used to take me as a treat when she visited me at Uni there. I dream about it still.

I used to love Old Orleans. I used to go to the one in Guildford in the l997/98 when I lived there.

@lollipoprainbow

What will be the next high Street casualty?

Boots, smiths

Exactly what I was going to say.

I can't think of any chains that I miss.

Where DM lives, there was an amazing butcher and a brilliant bra shop. Bought DD's first bra there. Those types of shops are few and far between.

Yes- I liked it too but the name always made me Blush to be pigging out in the middle of the day.

I'm glad it's not just me who misses Old Orleans. We should crowdfund to open one :)
I was also thinking that. I mean, I would have invented crowdfunding to save it but it sort of disappeared one day without any advance notice.

@Goatinthegarden

I don’t miss John Menzies in the sense that they wouldn’t have anything I’d want to buy now, but I miss being 6 years old and going there with my late dad on a Saturday morning. He’d go to buy his magazines and take my brother and I along for the ride.

We’d look at all the toys whilst whispering to each other about whether or not dad would ask us to choose a sweetie and a comic (he always did, but he waited until he’d chosen his magazines to ask us…the suspense!).

Love this Smile
100problems · 04/04/2022 16:02

Warehouse in the 90's was my go to on a Friday lunchtime for a new outfit for that evening.

lollipoprainbow · 04/04/2022 16:40

Loved fatty arbuckles also Garfunkel's they were like American diners used to go a lot in the 80's. Remember having a ham and pineapple burger there with a mini American flag stuck in the top!! My parents used to take me to an amazing burger place in Brighton in the 80's, I still remember the silver dishes coming round with sweetcorn and cucumber relish in , divine !!

Used to spend most New Years eves there (Covent garden one) with friends. Visit general store first. I used to work in Boules in Covent Garden. Really well paid & used to love the vibe working there. Great clothes.

Old Dutch Pancake place near Holborn such good memories as well.

Yes to Caspers!

And Kettners & the champagne bar I loved that place. Heavenly days late 80’s early 90’s.

Bistro 5 & bistro Fiori in Leeds. Happy student days.

suzyscat · 04/04/2022 16:42

Mothercare, BHS and woolworths for me.

WalkingOnTheCracks · 04/04/2022 16:45

There was a poshish burger chain called Tootsies that I rather miss.

MullinerSpec · 04/04/2022 16:52

Laura Ashley
Woolworths
Borders

@OwlinaTree

What will be the next high Street casualty? I vote Marks and Spencers.
I want to say Holland & Barrett because everything always seems to be on special offer and it has the desperate air of a place that's going down the tubes. But somehow it continues. Has a massive branch on Oxford St in London. How they pay the rent/rates I don't know Confused
emuloc · 04/04/2022 16:57

Woolworths and BHS.

Letsgoforaskip · 04/04/2022 17:29

@bendmeoverbackwards my friend and I used to sometimes go there on the way home from school and each choose a truffle for 15p in the food bit. I bet they loved us!

Boood · 04/04/2022 17:33

Redgates toy shop in Sheffield was the most exciting place in the world. I was fascinated by the third floor, where they had boxes of dolls’ shoes sorted by size.

Also Cole Brothers before it was rebranded to a John Lewis. In the 80s it was still very Grace Brothers, with haberdashery on the ground floor and its trays of gloves that were more about etiquette than warmth, and the range of makeup that had literally every item in every colour- green and yellow lipstick included. And the amazing exotic Homewares upstairs, with Persian rugs and Russian and Chinese dolls and hundreds of chess sets and a strong smell of sandalwood. And the cafe with its funny little 1960s chairs, where you selected your pre-prepared plate of food from a revolving display cabinet. That whole shop was the most exciting place to me.
