Porn star martini Pizza Express

Why are Pizza Express advertising 'Porn Star Martinis' on every table at their restaurants? AIBU to find this disgusting for a family restaurant? I don't really wish to explain to my 6 year old what it is.

I'm in my 40s and agree more with baskins posts.
Bit off insinuating must be young and bringing up other threads, definitely against guidelines, there's no need to be a knob.

Loubylooooo · 01/04/2022 23:55

Why would you even say what it is, I mean surely its the name of the drink would suffice? Just like if they saw the word sex you wouldnt launch into a detailed description of shagging

Sex is a completely different concept to pornstar and the fact you don’t see the difference worries me. I do talk to my 7 year old about sex in an age appropriate way so a ‘sex on the beach’ cocktail describing people having consexual sex would be far more appropriate in my eyes than a pornstar which is - at best- someone who is paid to have sex for a mostly male audience and - at worst- often sex trafficked and otherwise compromised individuals

For the people who are cool with it as it's just a drink, would these be okay?

Adios Motherfucker
Bend Over Shirley
Sex on My Face
Red-Headed Slut
Cock-Sucking Cowboy

All actually cocktails. Bend Over Shirley gives me the giggles and could probably get away with that one, but...It's about introducing inappropriate (because it's sexual and/or misogynistic) language into a child's (and presumably their friends on the playground's) vocabulary.

Source for the above. Cheers google.

Ooookay, I love my cocktails and I've never heard of any of them.
Maybe they're in more adult venues, not seen anything like that elsewhere and I'm old lol

GoodJanetBadJanet · 02/04/2022 01:24

Okay, just seen you googled names of cocktails to seemingly make a point.
Not really relevant to Pizza Express menus,

girlmom21 · 02/04/2022 07:28

@Ambition9to5

Some people have very docile kids. Mine would have said, "if it's just a drink, why did you roll yr eyes". From about 5.
Then maybe you should also learn to control your facial expressions because it's that that's telling them an issue - not a word they don't know

Really depends on the child. A lot of slightly older, more inquisitive children will ask what it is and then, on being told that it's a cocktail, will ask why it's called that.

Then I'd say quite honestly that I don't know why it's called that.

Dd2 is at the age where she reads absolutely everything so she'd likely ask. Easy enough to answer without having to explain what an actual porn star is (however she watches friends and the porn references have gone over her head in that so to her it wound be a familiar word but with. I actual understanding of the meaning so I doubt she'd go down that line of questioning anyway)

She made a good point. Lots of people are saying that it's fine as "it's just words" and "it's just a cocktail". If you agree with that it applies to any drink that is a cocktail that has a name made up of words.

This thread is hilarious. It's a nice drink and a well known name. As if any normal person going out for a family lunch at pizza express wouldn't just say "it's a cocktail," ( if asked), and get on with enjoying lunch with their kids. Actually hilarious, almost wish i worked in pizza express head office to read some of the deranged complaint emails.

I’ve just been reminded of Muriel’s Wedding.

“But I haven’t finished my Orgasm yet!”

I do receive emails like this. It's one part of me being hesitant to leave my job. And yes we do snips them and share the parts in teams chats. Everyone needs a pick me up when dealing with people like this all day.
BrightOrangeOrange · 02/04/2022 10:07

Weren't M&S forced to change the name after complaints?

It's a nice drink

I think it's a bit of crap drink.

Well obviously if you think it tastes crap don't order it.

I don't like the taste of coke but I'm not campaigning for Pizza Express to take it off their menu.

BrightOrangeOrange · 02/04/2022 10:15

Not the same.

The level of critical thinking and debate on here is seriously shit.

But it is similar. People on this thread don't like something and want it changed for that reason.

They believe they have justification for it yet no real evidence.

It’s not remotely similar - you seem to be continually missing the entire point of the thread.

Do you think porn is great? Current porn culture, complete with the ubiquitous choking, anal, violence, misogyny, incest fantasies, all the full works? Fine for all of us, including kids to have normalised as a “cheeky”, “just a bit of harmless fun” name for a drink in a pizza restaurant for kids?

AskingforaBaskin · 02/04/2022 10:30

I am not missing the point I just don't agree with you.

There is a ridiculous trend of righteous posters believing that if they keep drilling a point home to those who disagree then they will see the light. I have read and understood every post.

I do not agree with porn as it stands.
However I do not believe this drink is going anywhere. It's name acts like a brand and attracts a clientele which are profitable. Don't know if you're aware but hospitality kind needs to take it where is can.

And as I have seen minors grow up around this to adults who are perfectly functioning and it never be an issue I am failing to see when or where you believe this issue will manifest.
