Why are Pizza Express advertising 'Porn Star Martinis' on every table at their restaurants? AIBU to find this disgusting for a family restaurant? I don't really wish to explain to my 6 year old what it is.

You say its a drink!!!! Hmm

dewl · 01/04/2022 16:35

@tigerbird I am very aware of what my children get up to on the internet. The parental blocks are brilliant - I even struggle to buy underwear. Additionally, everything is tracked.

You need to be IT savvy; not me, but their dad works in IT. I'm sure when they are teenagers it will be a different story but as young children, they are very much protected.

dewl · 01/04/2022 16:40

@PriamFarrl Certainly sweeter than you my dear ☺️

girlmom21 · 01/04/2022 16:46

@Su9999 I don't think your kids will inherit anything from me, hun, don't worry.

Your manners need work though.

BrightOrangeOrange · 01/04/2022 16:51

@HighOnPie

Pornstar martinis are rank, just don’t order one.

See, sorted it for you

I agree with this comment more than anything on this thread.

£7.20 as well.

Don't order one & make an airplane out of the leaflet.

tigerbird · 01/04/2022 16:53

dewl but we’re talking about the normalisation of porn culture throughout all of society - kids, teenagers, everyone. It’s not only about not normalising porn in view of little kids, but also 13, 14, 15, 16 year olds and for all of the rest of us, too - I don’t particularly like some of the violent porn images I come across within social media platforms, and I’m a grown woman.

If you genuinely think that your kid at 12,13, 14 will be prevented from seeing porn (and not just soft porn but extreme hardcore porn) by parental filters, then do I have a bridge to sell you! 🤣

dewl · 01/04/2022 16:57

@tigerbird I think you must have misread/missed my previous posts.
I completely agree with you.

Lunar27 · 01/04/2022 16:59

@BoredZelda

Other than keeping children away from the internet altogether, can you advise how you can stop children from accessing porn? It's most definitely not easy or we'd all be doing it!

Worrying that you need to ask. Have you looked at any parental controls on your children’s devices, your wifi network or their mobile network?

It is not possible to access porn on any of the devices my daughter has and it is really easy to stop.

Sure, there is the “other kids” argument, but that was true back in the day of grubby magazines. And the point I was initially responding to was that the devices we are giving to our own children. And that access is within our control of anyone bothers to look.

Of course I have parental controls, not that I need them anymore as my kids are old now.

However, any child can bypass parental controls with some savvy, which is what I'm assuming most kids do and what I was talking about. If using WiFi or 4/5g outside the home, it's straightforward to hide everything from parents and do what you like. And that's not even considering file sharing between friends.

Lunar27 · 01/04/2022 17:05

Amazed people thought I was naive for not having parental controls. The irony Grin

No parental controls are 100% and most kids can easily outsmart whatever we put in place. I think most parents are oblivious to what their kids are up to.

Alliswells · 01/04/2022 17:11

No point yapping about it and doing nothing. Every one on this thread who understands it's just not on to have porn star drinks heavily promoted at the tables where children are please please please complain to pizza express

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/04/2022 17:50

Are my kids honestly unusually observant and inquisitive? I thought they were pretty standard but going by this thread they have extraordinary abilities when it comes to noticing stuff and asking questions.

Not at all - I think those saying that they'd tell their kids "it's a drink" and expect them not to ask any further questions must either have young toddlers, highly unusually uninquisitive kids or, quite possibly, kids who are so used to being fobbed off by parents who don't listen to them, engage with them or show an interest in their learning about the world around them that they've learned not to bother trying anymore.

miltonj · 01/04/2022 17:53

Great, I really want a pornstar martini and a pizza express now. And I can't have one because I'm pregnant and not in the UK. Brilliant.

NurseBernard · 01/04/2022 18:25
@Trixiefirecracker Same. No porn, or anything unsuitable can be accessed by my children via their phones or any devices in my house.

@Luna27 Are you aware that there is such thing as parental controls?
OK.

And when they’re outside your house….?

dewl · 01/04/2022 18:36

@NurseBernard Either at my house, dad's house or school. Very safe thank you for your concern though.
Like I've have said, it's a different story for teens.

NurseBernard · 01/04/2022 19:29

Yes. It’s a very different story for pre-teens and teens.

NurseBernard · 01/04/2022 19:34

And surely anyone younger than that doesn’t have a phone anyway….

Ambition9to5 · 01/04/2022 19:39

Some people have very docile kids. Mine would have said, "if it's just a drink, why did you roll yr eyes". From about 5.

dewl · 01/04/2022 20:13

@NurseBernard Yes not sure why primary kids need a phone. I understand once they go to Secondary, as they usually travel to and from by themselves at this stage. I think I'll hold out till then!

alfagirl73 · 01/04/2022 20:20

Dear god... just move the advert (I do anyway cos they get in the way) or just say it's a drink for adults and change the subject! If it's a slightly older child questioning the choice of drink name just calmly go "yes, not the best choice of a name is it..." - look suitably disapproving and change the subject. No need for hand-wringing and dramatics. You can address things you disagree with in a calm and mature way without it turning into a big to-do.

And as for all the concern over young teens reading it... jeez... when I was that age I was watching Tom Cruise in Cocktail standing on a bar grinding and talking about sex on the beach and orgasms... and I'm not traumatised! It's a cocktail - plenty of them have dodgy names... you can't censor the entire world. I knew what porn was at that age... didn't mean I agreed with it or wanted to do it! It was just something generally considered as sleazy... and that was that. Mind you when I was that age there were boobs out in the newspaper every day.... and you're freaking out over an advert in Pizza Express?! I don't know how we all coped...

Regardless of people's views of porn as an industry, you do your child no favours by looking to completely censor the world around them. You cannot control the universe - or expect it to bend to your will - you can only control how you handle it. You can either turn things into a huge drama while you clutch your pearls, or you can deal with it calmly and with a bit of common sense.

And now I want to go and have pizza... and cocktails... not sure about the spotted cock though!

@alfagirl73 there’s no need for women to put up with misogyny anymore and not ‘cause a fuss’. Causing a fuss got rid of the awful page 3 you refer to - aren’t you pleased some young children no longer have to see their dad ogling women’s breasts over their cornflakes? No-one is saying the pizza express cocktail will cause the breakdown of society. We’re just saying it’s not really progressive - and pretty misogynistic - to refer to porn stars in what is essentially a family restaurant. It makes me sad that women think they’re ‘cool girls’ if they stand up for poor male behaviours.

Loubylooooo · 01/04/2022 22:20

And I’m sad you feel you have so little agency @alfagirl73, I hope you find the courage to speak up for the next generation - and for yourself of course as you sound beaten down

Except women are the largest market for them and in the company I work for the Marketing and Sales teams responsible for these drinks and their promotions are female led

So what poor male behaviour are you referring to?

Whatalovelydaffodil · 01/04/2022 22:57

So what poor male behaviour are you referring to?

I am not that poster, but on the Pizza Express flyer we're discussing it says "daylight saving and misbehaving - porn star martini". What's the connection between those words?

Loubylooooo · 01/04/2022 23:15

@AskingforaBaskin it’s not hard to think about why that is… I’m not sure if you’re being deliberately obtuse with your posts/ arguments or just don’t get it! If it’s the latter then I refer you to ‘cool girls.’ Although not sure you get that either 😂
