To want holiday accommodation that’s not dog friendly

Pikachuspal · 31/03/2022 14:52

Almost every place I look at is advertised as dog friendly! My kids are allergic to animal hair, as in react to hair on someone’s clothes. What’s the point in forking out for a holiday for it to be potentially ruined by hair and manky dog smell?

OP posts:
Bluechinavase · 31/03/2022 21:53

@fairylightsandwaxmelts yup. I have taken a step back. However she chose to get a dog but has not embraced the responsibility of training it. She admitted this when I pointed it out to her. I also have been watching dog videos to give her tips coz she can’t be arsed. I suggested she was anxious and stressed about it and she admitted she was but she still doesn’t train her dog and brings it along and frankly spoils our mornings. But I’m the entitled one??? I don’t fucking think so

tearinghairout · 31/03/2022 21:53

I have a dog and have found that more places seem to be moving away from allowing dogs. The place we went to for years now doesn't allow them, because of "an incident", they said. But for a lot it's because of people with allergies. I think there are more places that don't allow dogs than do, in my experience.

sandytoeswales · 31/03/2022 22:17

We don't have allergies but only book accommodation that doesn't allow dogs. Being a holiday park cleaner no matter how hard you try dog hairs get everywhere and are difficult to hoover up when you have limited time.

Try Bluestone, no pets allowed anywhere on site

HELLITHURT · 31/03/2022 22:27
@HELLITHURT which is fine except she hasn’t. She brings her dog along to our coffee mornings. If she had chosen to spend time with her dog over me she would be off for walkers in the woods without us.
I go for walks in the woods, round the streets and I go to coffee shops, with my dog, it's not either or.

She's happy to spend an hour or so with you, but chooses her dog above you for the weekend.

That's fair and totally her choice, as I previously said.

No way would I not have a dog because of a couple of weekends with a "friend", but the "friend" doesn't dictate that I can't take my dog to a coffee shop, so I can do that and meet them.

Suzi888 · 31/03/2022 22:30

@SevenWaystoLeave

If "almost" every place is advertised as dog friendly then presumably you are also seeing some places that are not. So go to one of those. Problem solved.

The best dog owners are the ones without dogs...

A little like the best parents are the ones without children.

You've got to much time on your hands to be watching videos of dog training for others.

Very over bearing.

Bluechinavase · 31/03/2022 22:38

@hellithurt And she's perfectly entitled to choose her dog over me for the weekend. Except she hasn't. Yet. Post covid, when a weekend away was discussed, she said (and I quote) 'ah we'll have to get somewhere that is dog friendly for Fido'. So that's wanting your cake and eating it is it not? I have never said she shouldn't own a dog however she should not expect that everyone should be invested in it as she is. Nor should she own a dog without training it. My opinion may have been different if she actually trained her dog. I am not anti-dog. But not training your dog in the slightest shows the utmost contempt for everyone around you and is totally irresponsible. So I reserve MY right not to have coffee with her dog because it jumps all over me, whines, slobbers, tries to eat MY food whilst 20 minutes previously it was eating another dog's shite AND some horse SHITE! I am not making this up. If anyone thinks that this is ok then and I'm the one with the problem and am entitled then they need to give their head a wobble, whether they own a dog or not!

Bluechinavase · 31/03/2022 22:44

@HELLITHURT just telling it like it is. I often find that when people don't like what they need to hear and would prefer just listening to what they want to hear they tend to go on the defensive. There are so many badly trained dogs around (which is not their fault but their owner's fault) that I have sadly had to put some time in myself on how to train a dog because the aforementioned owners are too lazy/can't be arsed/don't see the need yet still it's ok to bring their ill-trained Fido's along to cause havoc.

to get somewhere dog friendly ✅

Where did I say you suggested she should it get a dog?

You've talked about two separate "dog owners" in your original post, the first with a badly behaved dog, the second was "another pal" who wanted to take her dog to your caravan.

Now the two separate dogs seem to have become one?

The second dog owner I was referring to does not have a badly behaved dog? But would rather not join you without dog or partner or children her choice?

How did the two dogs become one?

But the second dog was not deemed untrained initially, just you didn't want it because you didn't, which is fine!

But also done that your friend declines your "invitation"

Not all dogs are untrained, as your initial post seemed to say, but now it's changed?

🤔

BitOutOfPractice · 31/03/2022 22:50

Ah here are all the doggy people expecting everyone right love dogs as much as they do.

I agree op. The right to take your dog everywhere now trumps everyone else’s preferences. And apparently if you don’t agree, you’re an animal hater and a bigot and frankly not welcome in polite society.

I love dogs but ffs the rights of dog owners seems to trump everything else now.

Bluechinavase · 31/03/2022 22:53

@HELLITHURT yup point taken. Second pal has chosen weekend over me and that's fine.

First pal was mainly coffee morning based but we do also go away for one weekend a year as part of a larger group and she wanted to bring her dog when we discussed it.

But is it not up to the owner of the air BnB or cottage or pub, cafe, shop if they let dogs in or not? If I owned any one of those things I'd let dogs in. If someone who didnt like dogs didn't want to come then it's up to them 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ah, the aggressively dog free stomping along to tell us that private business owners can’t accommodate to roughly the proportion of the U.K. population who have dogs whilst still leaving the majority of establishments pet free.

I’ve not seen anyone use the words animal hater, bigot etc.

You’ve got some massive chips on your shoulder! The only people attempting to trump the needs of others on here seem to be the anti-dog brigade! Grin

Exactly, a weekend with you or her dog, she chose the dog, her choice! You may be offended by that, but that's your issue, not hers.

You're clearly not a dog lover, trained or untrained abs don't give it "people being defensive are obviously not good owners", my being defensive and reading your post thought "what a crock of shit", she's just having a go at all her friends that are dog owners.

You can be a good dog owner and be defensive!

Anyway, here is my total beauty! Doing her perfect sit! Even though she's got a sore leg.

I cannot take my dog everywhere, please tell me where you live that you can.... I'll move there!
BitOutOfPractice · 31/03/2022 23:01

See what I mean? Challenge the pro-dog status quo and you have a chip on your shoulder, you’re aggressive, and “stomping”. That’s just the three posts in the 5 minutes since I suggested that not everyone wants to share their lives with dogs. 5 minutes.

ThinWomansBrain · 31/03/2022 23:02

unless I pick a site that is specifically focussed on dog friendly cottages, selecting the pet friendly filter generally reduces available properties by half. From memory, you can't apply the filter as a negative to exclude the pet friendly ones, which must be irritating.

My bugbear is that "pet friendly" usually means "dog friendly", so if I apply the filter I still have to read descriptions closely or call to enquire.

It’s supposed to be a discussion… similar language was used to your post. You’ve ignored all points made and just come back with another needlessly dramatic post whilst ignoring the responses.. Hmm

Livpool · 31/03/2022 23:06

Come on OP. -/ you just realise that you cannot dislike dogs (for any reason) on Mumsnet! And then everyone must tell you that Mumsnet 'hates dogs'.

Bluechinavase · 31/03/2022 23:06

@HELLITHURT I'm not offended that someone prefers their dog over me. But you've illustrated my point perfectly. You've decided I'm not a dog lover yet you've posted a picture of your dog anyway - I'm sure it's a lovely dog but guess what - I DON'T FUCKING CAREEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Nope, I've got a holiday let abs we've more than welcomed house cats and I think k it was either hamsters or gerbils (can't remember!), but just ring and enquire and they'll call the owner and ask.

The only.pet I don't think I would be keen on is maybe a tarantula (if people still keep these?), I'd honestly be shit scared it wound escape and still be at the property!

Neither does your friend FUUCKKIING CARE about spending the weekend with YOUUUUUU! GrinGrin

Fair play to her!

Anyway you must have some more dog videos to watch, so you can dictate advise dog owners?

BitOutOfPractice · 31/03/2022 23:11

It’s not a discussion though is it @DogsDryWineAndCheese? There’s no middle ground on mn. You either love dogs or you’re a monster. It’s really bizarre.

Quackpot · 31/03/2022 23:12

So hard to find somewhere that ticks all the boxes. We need animal free (allergies), 2 toilets (continence issues), and mostly level in the garden/outside space (disabilities). Added to that needs to be somewhere cheap cause we're on a budget. My kids aren't easy.
