20 fines issued to members of staff at Downing Street and thus was not one of the leading topics on ten o'clock news.

BJ has got away with it hasn't he?

OP posts:

@Aposterhasnoname

It absolutely beggars belief that as we’re standing on the brink of world war three, there are people still trying to topple the government and create chaos over a fucking piece of cake two years ago. FFS, give it a rest till the current crisis is over.
What a ridiculous pile of drivel.

What beggars belief for me is the length to which people will go to justify this gang of corrupt overprivileged lying bastards being in charge for another nanosecond. Don't people have any moral standards?

energywavering · 31/03/2022 15:14

Let's face it, those who are trying to get party gate to keep going, are the same ones who remoaned for 2 years...?

Politicians have been lying bastards for decades, Are moral standards a new thing or should just be applied to this government?

Unphased · 31/03/2022 15:16

energywavering
Yes a bit of a coincidence

Merrymouse · 31/03/2022 15:19

@energywavering

Next election will conclude exactly what brexit and the most recent general election portrayed - that the silent majority get to speak, and thus those who are easily lead by the media get a huge wake up call.
Yet there were no exemptions for either funerals or social gatherings ‘as long as the attendees are work colleagues’.

If everyone had been able to think up their own excuse there would have been no restrictions and certainly no fines.

The bigger point is that Johnson very obviously neither knew nor cared what the rules were, and then lied.

Johnson has taken lying to a whole new level. To be fair this was pretty obvious before he was elected, but enough of the electorate under our ridiculous FPTP system were prepared to overlook it.

Probably the same people defending him now.

Blossomtoes · 31/03/2022 15:21

@energywavering

OP one question - are you saying that you never broke the rules in any capacity? Because I find it hilarious that people are so outraged when they didn't stick to the rules either. Yes the government made the rules but is every outraged person a saint?
Pretty much, yes. Stayed at home, went to the supermarket once a week, didn’t see my adult son who lives alone. I broke the rules one day when I had cabin fever and drove home the long way after I did the shopping. That’s about it.

Or expect basic competence? This is just one of many examples. He can’t even buy wallpaper without getting in a mess.

Johnson can clearly write popular columns in a newspaper for a particular audience, as long as there are people to clear up after him. He can’t run his own life, never mind the country.

StormzyinaTCup · 31/03/2022 15:28

@dangerrabbit

He could probably have sex with a pig live on TV and people would say he was doing his bit for the British farming industry
I know it’s a serious thread but that has really made me lol!!
kulfi · 31/03/2022 15:29

“Let's face it, those who are trying to get party gate to keep going, are the same ones who remoaned for 2 years...?”

What, like Dominic Cummings you mean?

ilovesooty · 31/03/2022 15:30

@Merrymouse

Not to mention two different columns both for and against Brexit so he could swerve whichever way benefited him.

A man with no integrity or moral conviction.

Clockstooforward · 31/03/2022 15:38

Yes I do think the fat,scruffy,lying bigot has got away with it …and yes I am fucking furious!

CakeAmbushAlert · 31/03/2022 15:38

@Unphased

CakeAmbushAlert Has he been issued with one? Far more important things for the police and Parliament to be working on, All this fake outrage, if you expect MPs to be whiter than white, you must of missed a lot of news over the decades
@Unphased fake outrage? Where? Like I said the people who really did make sacrifices are the ones who feel it deepest that Johnson's team weren't abiding by them.

I'll ask you the same questions again:

Do you think Johnson is accountable for what goes on at the heart of Government / in his own residence?!

Do you not mind the Prime Minister of the country LYING to parliament that no rules were broken? NB/ Police have issued fines & Dominic Raab and at least one other minister have admitted rules were broken

Do you not want any standards in public office?

kulfi · 31/03/2022 15:40

Has he been issued with a penalty or not? Yes or no?

One day Downing Street make a statement that if the PM is issued with a penalty he will be sure to make this public.

The next day, when BJ is asked directly whether he personally has received a penalty notice, he is giving the usual mumbo jumbo - “Er well er l, I don’t think, er, what the British public want... er, I don’t think it is right for me to er... to be commenting, er, at this time.., er..,”

So I take that as a yes then?

TooBigForMyBoots · 31/03/2022 15:55

@LardyDee

I don't think people really mind too much. He wasn't elected for probity, nor really for competence. He got brexit done.
No he didn't, Brexit is nowhere near done. What sort of Jedi mind tricks is he pulling on people that he gets away with lying through his teeth?Confused
Unphased · 31/03/2022 16:00

TooBigForMyBoots
Have we left the EU, Yes, in that sense Brexit is done, Respecting the winning vote in the Referendum, ( right or wrong) That’s Democracy

DuncinToffee · 31/03/2022 16:00

So we can't talk about Partygate because of the war but it is ok for the Tories to have a party, or 'social gathering'?

The law has been broken 20 times, and there is more to come according to the Met, no this won't go away.

Firesidefox · 31/03/2022 16:02

I don't really care

Unphased · 31/03/2022 16:03

CakeAmbushAlert
I would hope that people in that position, would be honest etc, but after decades of past experience, I don’t expect it now or anytime in the future, that’s politics and politicians

CallmeHendricks · 31/03/2022 16:05

@energywavering

What, so you think, you SERIOUSLY think that those who object to Boris (and co) lies and terrible behaviour must automatically have been in favour of remaining in the EU? Is that the level of "argument" we're at? Or are you just resorting to flinging shit in order to obfuscate the real issues here. But whilst we're at this level or debate, so far as "toppling government whilst on the edge of a possible war," I think at this stage, Larry the fucking Downing Street cat could make a better job of leading the country than Boris. He's got more morals, for a start.
Blossomtoes · 31/03/2022 16:07

@Firesidefox

I don't really care
That’s nothing to be proud of. What would he have to do to make you care?
TooBigForMyBoots · 31/03/2022 16:09

@Unphased, I live in NI, Brexit isn't even close to being done because Johnson's government negotiated a deal that they were never going to honour. It's one of the reasons why PM Johnson is seen as untrustworthy and trivial on the world stage.

Why do voters keep buying his sleaze and lies, such as Brexit being done, no rules broken in Downing Street, at least the Conservatives know what a woman is etc?

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 31/03/2022 16:11

@Unphased

daimbarsatemydogsbone Politicians have been lying bastards for decades, Are moral standards a new thing or should just be applied to this government?
It's a question of degree isn't it?

Do you really think there is zero case for Boris and some of his chums to answer here?

You seem to be arguing for a terrible poverty of ambition that I don't want to see as an accepted fact of life.

Unphased · 31/03/2022 16:11

TooBigForMyBoots
As I asked before, Have we left the EU, Yes, In that term Brexit is done,( Brexit, leaving the EU )
