20 fines issued to members of staff at Downing Street and thus was not one of the leading topics on ten o'clock news.

BJ has got away with it hasn't he?

@DdraigGoch

Aren't there more important things going on in the world?
This is always the case.

However that’s precisely why he shouldn’t get away with it. We need a prime minister with integrity for serious times.

He is not that person. He’s either hungover or drunk most of the time.

Nicholethejewellery · 31/03/2022 09:39

He hasn't "got away with it" because he hasn't really done anything. He sat in his garden during lockdown, so what? A lot of people probably did. Even if he had had a glass of wine when he shouldn't have it really doesn't matter. I don't get the focus on this issue because it just looks like people can't find anything more important to criticise him over.

I thought it was telling too how during PMQs yesterday the opposition parties were going on the offensive over this non-issue again. There'd been a bit of a lull while the Russian invasion kicked off and they'd had to focus on Ukraine, but their return to these "parties" again makes them look like they never gave a toss about Ukrainians in the first place.

Nicholethejewellery · 31/03/2022 09:40

He’s either hungover or drunk most of the time.

Really? As in more than 12 hours of every single day?

olive2621 · 31/03/2022 09:56

If Johnson himself gets a fine then he would be expected to resign as he has lied to parliament. Although he probably won't. If Carrie Johnson gets a fine for holding any parties in the Downing St flat (ie on the day Cummings left) he should resign as he must have known it was happening and therefore lied to parliament.

We need some enterprising journalists to find out.

And? There always will be. That does not mean that our so called leaders can do what the hell they like, and get away with it.

It’s not a non issue, and the parties were in his flat and in the Downing Street offices. As has been repeatedly pointed out on this thread, people went through real hardship because they were told to follow the rules and do the right thing.

Many other people may have also broken the rules and lied about it, but I don’t want them to be PM either.

If you want more reasons why Boris Johnson shouldn’t be PM, there is a very, very long list.

Ihaveamagicwand · 31/03/2022 10:38

I would love to know the cost of the investigation into ’partygate’. All that money spent to issue a few fines. Where does that come on the Met’s scale of important crimes?

I know they shouldn’t get away with it.
I know that people are hurting and will continue to feel deceived by this shower of a government.
I know a crime is a crime and should be investigated no matter what.

But I would still love to know how much of the Met’s budget had to be used thereby taking it away from investigating more serious crimes.

jowly · 31/03/2022 10:43

@Justcallmebebes

I'm not sure anyone really cares anymore
I don't and never did.

There are far bigger things for the police to think about, as well as the gov

sashagabadon · 31/03/2022 10:47

No one where I work is talking about it or cares really. I personally think it’s an example of how ridiculous the rules were back in 2020.
I think Boris is doing good work with the Ukraine situation and his response to that will change peoples opinion. I can’t imagine any conservative mp writing their letters now ( or whatever they have to do)

SpringRainbow · 31/03/2022 10:47

To be honest I would not be surprised if he gets away with it. For some reason he seems to get away with everything.

I was so sure he wouldn’t last past Winter 2019, but here we are.

I just honestly do not get it.

InMySpareTime · 31/03/2022 10:49

@Ihaveamagicwand it was actually a serious crime as it undermined lockdown measures, which led to many unnecessary deaths and debilitating illnesses.

More important than criminality at the heart of government?
JustALittleHelpPlease · 31/03/2022 10:51

Yabu for thinking there was ever another outcome to this. BJ will remain Teflon until they want him out.

I care. I care deeply about this issue. Because he stood there and told us all to follow the rules whilst breaking them himself.

He's a liar and a cheat and not fit to lead our country. He's an embarrassment. The tories should be completely embarrassed that is the best they have.....

I wish I'd never bothered following the rules if they didn't really matter. I didn't agree with them in the first place but I still followed them.

A leader with no integrity....

If the rules were ridiculous in 2020, that is down to Johnson.

I don’t expect him to go before the next election, but he has a record of consistent incompetency in government, whether as mayor, foreign secretary or PM. He is only saved by the fact that to a degree, government can carry on functioning without him.

He’s Teflon. Utterly Teflon.

SartresSoul · 31/03/2022 11:26

Yes and I knew he would really. The situ in Ukraine has understandably taken precedence. He was always going to ride it out until everyone hopefully forgot. People tend to be like goldfish so they probably have mostly forgotten.

baroqueandblue · 31/03/2022 11:31

Even Teflon starts to break down if you keep scratching at it hard enough. I'm glad some people are still scratching away at the festering sore on England's rump that Johnson is. Good for them, they're doing us all a favour. I hope they don't listen to his self-interested co-conspirators on threads like this. "Let's move on - look! A war!" Hmm

I don’t think people will forget loved ones dying alone, and I don’t for one moment think he will get to the next election without more blunders/stupidity/incompetence.

His one saving Grace is that he isn’t Corbyn, but Corbyn won’t be running again.

CakeAmbushAlert · 31/03/2022 11:59

On a previous thread someone described him as a turd that won't flush, so very true.

@Nicholethejewellery He hasn't "got away with it" because he hasn't really done anything
Biscuit
I might be more blase about it if I hadn't had to sit through facetimes with my recently widowed parent, as they cried with loneliness, while Johnson's government prevented me from being with her. Johnson presided over party central during the points all of us were making sacrifices: home schooling, businesses closing, Christmas without family. No bday parties for my DC for 2 years due to lockdown. Children not being allowed to play with another child for months. Yet in No 10, gatherings after hours requiring suitcases full of booze smuggled in! Then he LIED in parliament that there was no rule breaking. If he didn't lie then he in completely INCOMPETENT to not know that social gatherings were not permitted under his own rules. He can absolutely get to f*ck

I only hope, that as with Trump, when it gets to election time people have had enough & give him the boot!

notwhatineednow · 31/03/2022 12:07

More important than criminality at the heart of government?

Exactly this, it matters.

MrsSkylerWhite · 31/03/2022 12:08

Probably

SleeplessInEngland · 31/03/2022 12:12

I care that my Prime Minister lies, and people who say it doesn't matter are pricks.

Johnson may well get away with it because his MPs are cowards but he won't get away with the cost of living crisis headed our way. Labour are already polling better on handling the eocnomy, which would have been unthinkable only a year ago.

zoemum2006 · 31/03/2022 12:23

Nope. We know what they did and we know who not to vote for in 2024.

His popularity is in the toilet. We just need a United opposition.
