"Work stack" - FFS

So in addition to the likes of 'reach out', 'align'; 'ducks in a row', 'going forward' etc etc etc...we now have 'work stack' instead of workload.

Losing the will to live.

Ps no AIBU. The use of 'work stack' is unreasonable.

YANBU.

It sounds like a synonym for ‘bandwidth’. Or at least it would be, if you were a computer not a person.

NumericalBlock · 30/03/2022 20:01

Is it a geeky reference at all? My DH is an electronics engineer and labels his to do list as a "stack", apparently it makes him chuckle as its a reference to building software or something (I think?! It was a while ago that I asked why)

Bessica1970 · 30/03/2022 20:02

I’ve never heard this, but ‘mental load’ irrationally pisses me off.

itsmehere1 · 30/03/2022 20:04

I think the worst I have heard yet is “let’s idea shower” I mean wtaf?

Grilledaubergines · 30/03/2022 20:07

Oh how I want to go back 20 years to a time with none of this bollocks.

Grilledaubergines · 30/03/2022 20:07

Or forward 20 years so I can retire and not listen to it.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 30/03/2022 20:08

Stack is an IT word - has it come from there op?

Duracellbunnywannabe · 30/03/2022 20:09

You know the only way to deal with it is to find someone else in your office/team who feels the same way and play bullshit bingo.

IlFaitBeau · 30/03/2022 20:11

Today I got: “thought experiment”. I’ve also got “idea shower”, and the new inexplicable tendency to use the word “pop”.

“Pop it in an email”
“Something to make the ideas pop”.

Kill me please.

Topbird29 · 30/03/2022 20:13

I think idea shower is a new way of saying brain storm - that phrase was thought to be un PC. Not saying the alternatives are better.

TheVolturi · 30/03/2022 20:15

I hate the ducks in a row.

I refuse to use all of these phrases. I'll never get promoted (at my current company) but I will retain my soul.

Madmaxxy · 30/03/2022 20:17

I used to work somewhere where they referred to your workload as 'what you have on your pad' i.e. 'have you got too much on your pad'?' 'whats on your pad today'? Drove me nuts!! YANBU

DoraTheScottishExplorer · 30/03/2022 20:19

I had a boss that was all about creating time for blue sky thinking

CovidCanDoOne123 · 30/03/2022 20:22

@Grilledaubergines

Or forward 20 years so I can retire and not listen to it.
I hear you!!!

"I do not have the mental bandwidth to deal with this" said by my manager.

Am I missing something re brainstorm?
CovidCanDoOne123 · 30/03/2022 20:23

@Allmyarseandpeggymartin

Possibly...not an IT business though.

Actually, come to think of it, I did hear it first from a digital type person...but now seems to be the norm all around the organisation (global corp).

Now if I say "work load" I feel very middle aged and out of touch Confused

"Touch bases". Stop touching people's bases!

"Push back" is a favourite for my boss and I still don't know what it means.

JustOneMoreNameChange · 30/03/2022 20:28

Brainstorm is thought by some to be un-PC because it brings to mind a mental health condition or autistic meltdown (as in an actual storm in your brain).

The rest... Well, I just refuse to use them. I'm very literal (autistic) and find it really l, genuinely confusing and hard to understand what someone means when there's too much jargon.

MiniMaxi · 30/03/2022 20:29

@Mistressofnone it means “say no”!

I detest “learnings”. What were your learnings from the training course?

No you muppets! You don’t learn a learning. You learn a lesson.

seven7sisters · 30/03/2022 20:30

Ugh, twice in a meeting today someone said "get to a granular level" of something

Confused

@Bessica1970

I thought 'mental load' was a pretty apt description! Especially with regards to mothers in any type of family unit. I.e. a simple way of expressing the one who remembers the P.E kit for Tueday, the reading book for Friday and the trip to the museum next month.

Surely I can't be alone in thinking this?
