WaitWhat Baroness Nicolson has almost single handedly changed my opinion regarding the House of Lords. The situation here in Scotland is not helped by the fact we have no second chamber to hold the elected representatives (some of whom, let's be honest, want to be re-elected so will go along with the mob) to account.
The House of Lords has the power to call in and comment on Scottish legislation that it believes is concerning. It has done that already last year over 2 pieces of legislation which is said were so unclear that only the courts could interpret it.
The basic criteria of legislation is that the population in general should understand what is legal and what is not.
With the new Hate Crime legislation coming into force in Scotland, which remarkably has excluded sex from all the other categories of discrimination it includes, its not clear whether we may even include issues such as this in our homes or online without expecting a knock at our doors.
