To think my friend's son is a prat?

Pipsquiggle · 23/03/2022 17:40

He's 27 and unvaccinated. He's never had covid.

He thinks he can travel to Tenerife this weekend when the rules clearly stipulate that unvaccinated people need to show they've had covid in the last 6 months - he can't prove that.

His mum and I think he should rearrange the trip.

What will happen at the airport? Will he get refused entry to the gate? Or will he get to Tenerife and then get turned back?

I haven't flown abroad since the pandemic so not sure when they check the vaccination / medical status.

He is a real prat - he always thinks he knows better than anyone else and rules don't apply to him. I am half hoping that he does get his comeuppance with this

@Pipsquiggle ignore the people just here to have a go!

It’s a reasonable question, and if it’s bothering your friend, of course you want the right answers if people have had experiences.

If people don’t want to be vaccinated that’s fine, their bodies, their choices. But I’ll admit to finding it interesting how other countries choose to protect their borders and their laws surrounding it.

So I’ll admit it, I’m just here for an update.

I wonder if travel insurance would cover not meeting entry requirements. I’d doubt it.

muddyford · 24/03/2022 12:49

It's years since I travelled to the Canary Uslands, but even then different rules (from those in Spain) applied for all sorts of things. Rather than Spain, check specific requirements for the islands not the very distant mainland. Throughout the pandemic islands have generally been stricter than countries with land borders.

dworky · 24/03/2022 13:00

Let him find out for himself, he's been warned.
@Pipsquiggle it’s literally none of your business what a young male acquaintance does with his body. The sense of entitlement that this pandemic has generated is off the charts.
Try reading the thread again love.....🙄

2bazookas · 24/03/2022 13:08

Shut up and say nothing; so should his mother.

Let the prat learn the hard way. One sharp lesson in the real world, might save the prat from making far more damaging mistakes later on.
@sparepantsandtoothbrush I'm pro choice, not anti-vaxx, my vaccinations are up to date. Please educate yourself.
Cringe. I guarantee that there are many, many more people on this thread who are more educated than you about this subject @Broads93. You don’t sound particularly knowledgable about vaccines and have made some false assumptions.

I’m a scientist with many years experience in a closely related field. I don’t expect everyone to be capable of self- educating themselves appropriately in the subject. It’s the entire purpose of having real experts and formal education. I certainly would always listen to an expert in an area where I was lacking knowledge, yet suddenly everyone’s opinion supposedly holds equal weight in an argument regardless of knowledge or experience. Maybe the consensus of the scientific community is worth listening to.

My brother went to Alicante last week. He wasn't checked leaving here and when they arrived it was random spot checks on people arriving.

When I went to Ibiza last year in summer everyone was checked on arrival in the country. When we went to Alicante it was again random spot checks. I went to Turkey in June and couldn't leave this country without showing our locator forms and vaccine status.

He potentially could get through if they don't check on the way out (Ryanair don't always) and if its spot checks on arrival and he's lucky.

amylou8 · 24/03/2022 19:04

The airline will enforce the rules of the destination. He can have a negative lat flow for Spain I believe. The big airports all have walk ins with an hour turnaround. No doubt check-in will roll their eyes and point him in the right direction.

@Summerfun54321

If you can’t come to an online forum to slag off a random prat then what is the internet for?
Evergreen post.
Bitconfusedhmm · 27/03/2022 11:40

Did he go @Pipsquiggle?

huffyhufferson · 27/03/2022 16:10

He is a prat!

Pipsquiggle · 27/03/2022 17:34

UPDATE

He got to Tenerife. Haven't got any details other than that.

No doubt he will use this as an example of 'I knew I was right!'

TibetanTerrah · 27/03/2022 17:43

Do you think he really did OP? Or do you think he's skulked off in the UK somewhere to ride out his shame?

Whoever he was going with could send him a picture of tenerife that he could send to his mum. Now he's just got to camp out at a friends or a travelodge for a few days then he can continue to strut about and say I told you so!

mnahmnah · 27/03/2022 18:35

He sounds like the kind of person who wouldn’t get travel insurance either…

pudridpudding · 27/03/2022 18:49

Would love to know how he got there!

An unvaccinated, anti-masker I know has been threatening to fly directly into COVID hotspots from our relatively COVID-free area throughout the pandemic. She has no job (refuses to work) and no money and the areas she wants to live are very expensive. She’s 44 and lives with her mother whose finances are dwindling, largely because her adult daughter is such a burden.

She came up with all kinds of different flight paths thinking she could somehow outsmart the airlines and border control. The arrogance of it.

LightBulbous · 27/03/2022 18:54

Bet you he’s one of them that claim to be unvaccinated coz they’re sticking it to the man. When in reality he did get vaccinated and just likes being a twuntish dickhead spouting lies about how nobody tells him what to do. Knob!

19lottie82 · 27/03/2022 18:57

I’ve travelled to quite a few countries during the pandemic and amazingly 3/4 of them don’t actually ask for proof of vaccination or a negative test.

Ironically after being told I needed a Negative PCR to re enter the UK (when it was a requirement), it was never checked. This was maybe 3 or 4 times.

whyrusoangry · 27/03/2022 19:04

We had to move our holiday a month later as I was told the wrong information re vaccinations (I was told if you're a carer you can get it 4 weeks later, but it was 8). I was bloody raging at the airport (travelling to Lanzarote) as not one person asked to see the vaccine certificate. So he may not be asked.

I didn't want to be vaccinated either, to be fair. But can't go without travelling.

Watapalava · 27/03/2022 19:18

defo fake covid passport - either bought or he's changed the name on a pdf version

Jmaho · 27/03/2022 19:27

@Ozanj

Spain will allow travel for those unvaccinated who have recovered from covid in the past 6 mths. But yeah I agree with a pp that he probably has a fake certificate. They are ridiculously easy to forge
Is this definitely the case as this was what I had read too but my friend insists that they don't accept proof of recovery from the UK as we are not classed as a green risk country. I know I'm potentially worrying about what will happen in August (we are booked for Spain) but my 12 year old has covid currently and we've had to cancel his first vaccination. Because he will have to wait 12 weeks for it now he won't have had both doses by the time we go
Watapalava · 27/03/2022 22:12

You can still get the 12 year ole vax if you want as the covid result won’t show at the vax site

I had both mine done within 3-4 weeks of covid as they won’t have access to test results

Everywhere but uk had a 3 week gap and uk had 4 week gap between covid and vax up til November

Noooo! He needed to be denied boarding at check-in and return home shamefaced!
bracebrace · 28/03/2022 12:24

I think he was vaxxed and having a laugh at you. My husbands friend is an anti vaxer on social media. He's tripled vaxxed.

Very annoying given i need to pay £200 for two PCRs to take my two kids to the Canaries. No way would BA let me on without the relevant docs
