To think my friend's son is a prat?

Pipsquiggle · 23/03/2022 17:40

He's 27 and unvaccinated. He's never had covid.

He thinks he can travel to Tenerife this weekend when the rules clearly stipulate that unvaccinated people need to show they've had covid in the last 6 months - he can't prove that.

His mum and I think he should rearrange the trip.

What will happen at the airport? Will he get refused entry to the gate? Or will he get to Tenerife and then get turned back?

I haven't flown abroad since the pandemic so not sure when they check the vaccination / medical status.

He is a real prat - he always thinks he knows better than anyone else and rules don't apply to him. I am half hoping that he does get his comeuppance with this

@Broads93

Can you clarify, do you think he's a pratt because he actually acts like one or because he's unvaccinated? If it's because he's unvaccinated - it's you that's the prat, if you've got your vaccination then why are you scared ???
Hilarious. It's obviously both.
the80sweregreat · 23/03/2022 18:54

I thought the ' unvaccinated' people just had to have a negative pcr to prove ' fit to fly '
If you are or your not it's still faff though and each country has different rules too I'm told
Made the whole ' holiday experience' even more stressful flying anywhere

OnaBegonia · 23/03/2022 18:54

He likely will board as it is the country you're arriving in that has its own regulations. They will turn him back in Tenerife.

Watapalava · 23/03/2022 18:57

He won’t board if he doesn’t have some sort of proof

It is the responsibility of the departure airport to check entry requirements are met

I’ve travelled 4x in last 6 months and it’s always checked at departure point

Alliswells · 23/03/2022 19:00

Well aren't you just a delight OP!

Why do you care what your friends 27 year old son does or doesn't do to go on holiday???????????????

Erm, you are the prat here, for not knowing how vaccines work.

Not your Son, not your problem, sit back and wait to be updated as to what happens. Not my monkeys, not my circus.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 23/03/2022 19:04

Went to Lanzarote about a month ago and had to show vac proof at check in.. presumably they won't let him on.

Broads93 · 23/03/2022 19:05

@sparepantsandtoothbrush I'm pro choice, not anti-vaxx, my vaccinations are up to date. Please educate yourself.

Bananabutter · 23/03/2022 19:06

How is this any of your concern, really?

KellyJonesLeatherTrousers · 23/03/2022 19:07

Spain is not currently accepting travellers from the UK unless they’re double vaccinated or have proof they’ve recovered from the virus in the last 6 months (for 27 year olds). No PCR version of entry is accepted.

Malibuismysecrethome · 23/03/2022 19:09

I’m for freedom of choice and that includes whether or not someone decides to be vaccinated. I also feel strongly that hardly any cancer treatments were carried out during Covid lockdown. I have this on very good authority.

hupfpferd · 23/03/2022 19:11

@KellyJonesLeatherTrousers
Not true. They accept PCR tests for 12-17 year olds.

HaggisBurger · 23/03/2022 19:12

@the80sweregreat

Just get him to have a pcr test ! I'm sure that the unvaccinated will be able to fly , but it's just a bit more faff and money to get the tests done a few days before you go ( or whatever the airline asks for ) lots of pharmacies do the tests I believe , or you send off for it ? They can't have millions of people not flying anywhere surely ?
Er no! 😂 lots of countries still require people to be vaccinated or have proof of recent recovery. Luckily all the relevant information is available on the Foreign Office website. Rather than people just “guessing”. Like this.
IncompleteSenten · 23/03/2022 19:13

Just sit back and enjoy.

That’s why she added “(for 27 year olds)”!

Baileysoncereal · 23/03/2022 19:16

God a 27 year old man and his mum and her mate getting involved in his business, judging him and telling him what they think he should do about his holiday. Not to mention hoping he gets comeuppance for being a prat and not listening to them

What does this have to do with Spain’s entry restrictions?
lanbro · 23/03/2022 19:21

To go to the Canaries you need to complete a Spanish Health Form no more than 48 hours before you go, which you have to upload your proof of vaccination/covid recovery. When we checked in last month to Lanzarote we were asked to verbally confirm we had completed the forms although didn't show at this end. You do get them scanned on arrival though so he wouldn't get past that! Restrictions are changing all the time, I haven't checked as not travelling again since the summer but I'd say he's a fool to assume anything and not double, double check

Leave him to it. He is an adult.

He just shy of 30 SmileSmile

vickyc90 · 23/03/2022 19:32

Nothing to say he isn't vaccinated and just choosing to sound like the big man that he isn't. He also possibly had a positive COVID swab in the last 6 months and hasn't told anyone

Cheeserton · 23/03/2022 19:43

Well aren't you just a delight OP!

Stupidest comment yet... Clearly, her friend is concerned that her son won't be allowed to fly or will be refused entry. Did you read that bit??

Why the hell shouldn't she wonder about the outcome? How on earth does that make her mean in any respect?? Total weirdness.

HollowTalk · 23/03/2022 19:44

Just leave him to it. Let him figure it out for himself.

Beautiful3 · 23/03/2022 19:47

He can do a pcr test, I think its £60. He best find somewhere to do it before he flies.
