To think my friend's son is a prat?

He's 27 and unvaccinated. He's never had covid.

He thinks he can travel to Tenerife this weekend when the rules clearly stipulate that unvaccinated people need to show they've had covid in the last 6 months - he can't prove that.

His mum and I think he should rearrange the trip.

What will happen at the airport? Will he get refused entry to the gate? Or will he get to Tenerife and then get turned back?

I haven't flown abroad since the pandemic so not sure when they check the vaccination / medical status.

He is a real prat - he always thinks he knows better than anyone else and rules don't apply to him. I am half hoping that he does get his comeuppance with this

Spain is allowing people in with negative PCR/LFT tests I believe. It shows up on your Covid passport. My colleague who has an exemption travelled last week and all they checked was the QR code you can generate with a negative test.

Cheeserton · 24/03/2022 00:17

You're right. Total weirdness indeed. The man is 27 grin
His mam's friend is posting about him and his holiday on MN!

You heard it here first people.

  1. Abandon all interest in your kids once they reach 27 - it's the law. You may not wonder about them at all.

  2. Posting anything other than the weightiest shit on earth is now banned on MN. Sorry, no triviality allowed anymore. Damn.

PyongyangKipperbang · 24/03/2022 00:56

You know what they say....we learn more from failure than from success.

Sounds like this is a life lesson a long time coming for the cocky little shit.

Volhhg · 24/03/2022 01:09

I don't think he's a part. Perhaps he knows that he can travel unvaccinated but with a PCR test. Spain recently changed their covid travel restrictions.

PixieLaLa · 24/03/2022 01:33

From similar stories I have heard I don’t think a lot will happen tbh and why should it? Compared to the UK people aren’t even expected to isolate anything when testing positive!

PixieLaLa · 24/03/2022 01:34

*anymore

Notarealmum · 24/03/2022 01:45

It depends entirely on whatever restrictions are enforced in Tenerife. That’s that’s what will be required at check in and if he doesn’t meet those requirements he won’t be allowed on the plane. I can’t believe anyone would book a holiday without checking those first. Many countries accept unvaccinated tourists but they need to do PCR tests either pre-travel, on arrival or both. And the regulations do change, especially at the moment. His unvaccinated status could well not be a problem.

OnGoldenPond · 24/03/2022 01:49

Flew from Gatwick to Murcia on Saturday. There were no checks of my vaccination status at Gatwick. Was only checked on arrival in Spain. So it's possible he could get to Spain but be put on the first flight home.

Is providing a negative test not an option now?

RishiRich · 24/03/2022 02:05

Based on my flying experience in the last few months (am abroad now), he won't even get through check-in.

Maxiedog123 · 24/03/2022 02:19

Presumably he has a fake certificate

GiantHaystacks2021 · 24/03/2022 02:45

YABVVVVVVVVVU - if you do not update us about this all, on Monday.
Grin

What an arsehole.
Hope he gets a good kick up the arse.
Twat.

Notarealmum · 24/03/2022 03:09

Just checked, for Tenerife you need full vaccination status or proof of recovery.

Ozanj · 24/03/2022 03:16

Spain will allow travel for those unvaccinated who have recovered from covid in the past 6 mths. But yeah I agree with a pp that he probably has a fake certificate. They are ridiculously easy to forge

Justilou1 · 24/03/2022 04:13

To quote Dorothy Parker… “You can lead a whore to culture, but you can’t make her think.” He’s an adult. He has all the information required to make an informed decision about whether to book the ticket or not and he agreed to those terms and conditions despite knowing he was unvaccinated. He has chosen to chuck his money down the drain.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 24/03/2022 04:33

This is not your problem. Why are you so over-invested?

cameocat · 24/03/2022 05:47

Getting a covid pass on insta is madness

I think the vast majority of people on here have taken this post in the spirit that it was written - lighthearted with a request for information about what part of the process he might be turned back.

To the very few who say I'm overinvested, he's an adult, he's not my son......... come on people, this is what these kind of sites were made for. I find mumsnet so incredibly helpful on so many topics - serious ones and the fluffier stuff. I love a good parking thread. Can the mood hoovers take a back seat.

For clarity, on the government website, as of right now, to get into Spain you need to have:

  • a negative antigen test - all travellers *be fully vaxxed OR if you are not fully vaxxed have proof that you've recovered from covid in the last 6 months

Maybe he has been vaccinated and is just winding you up Smile

SamphiretheStickerist · 24/03/2022 08:12

You are talking about my nephew, I think.

His mum an I agree with you @Pipsquiggle he is a pratt. Always has been!

I would definitely be pissed off if this is the case.

He doesn't impact on my life one jot, however, his mum and him have had a fairly tense relationship over the last 18 months.

He lives with his mum for very low rent. His mum is clinically vulnerable, she asked him to get vaxxed but he refused, he moved to his girlfriend's for a time. It's taken a while for them to get back to normal.

I was hoping this would teach him that there are consequences for the decisions he makes

Justilou1 · 24/03/2022 09:17

That alone makes him an undeserving dickslap

Bizawit · 24/03/2022 11:21

@Pipsquiggle it’s literally none of your business what a young male acquaintance does with his body. The sense of entitlement that this pandemic has generated is off the charts.

whynotwhatknot · 24/03/2022 12:06

she didnt say she cared what he done with his body did she
