Asking how often you have to wash your hair?

My own can't go over a whole day before it starts looking like it needs a wash. Fuckin nightmare and feels like high maintenance. How often are you able to go between washes? How long does your hair stay looking clean before it looks like it needs a wash? How often do you wash it?

Every morning when I shower. It's short and fine, tends to be greasy. It dries in five minutes with a hairdryer so it's no effort.

CounsellorTroi · 23/03/2022 15:41

Once a week. It’s thick and in good condition. I’m 60.

ChimpyChops · 23/03/2022 15:44

Every other day, with dry shampoo. Can sometimes stretch to 3 days.

jay55 · 23/03/2022 16:29

Weekly unless my scalp starts to itch too much.

theemmadilemma · 23/03/2022 16:33

46 and once a week. It's highlighted which probably helps. It's washed, straigtened and goes up in a ponytail and pretty much stays there.

Doesn't get greasy during that week to the look or feel imo.

phrow · 23/03/2022 16:34

Weekly. I've got thick wavy hair, if I washed it daily it would be HUGE!

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 23/03/2022 16:40

Once a week. It's long thick and curly, it doesn't get greasy just really frizzy if I wash more often than that.

Isis1981uk · 23/03/2022 16:40

Every 4 days. I used to do it once a week and it was fine. It seems the more you wash, the more you need to wash it, which is why so many people claim "they need to do it every day". I have such long, thick hair I wouldn't want to be washing it every day!

Pyewhacket · 23/03/2022 16:40

Daily. I work in ICU and it's Trust policy that we all take a hot shower when we come off shift. I had my hair cut quite short at the beginning of the Covid emergency and I've kept the style - makes it easier.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 23/03/2022 16:42

I normally wash my hair once a week, it looks fine - sometimes when life is very busy I go two weeks or more, by then it starts to look a little rough. I have long hair so it's a faff to wash/condition/brush/dry/straighten so I dont have time to do that very often

Maverickess · 23/03/2022 16:48

Have to wash mine daily, and twice if I'm at work and then going out. It's very fine and I sweat at work no matter what the weather (very warm workplace through necessity plus physical job) I could probably get away with dry shampoo but when it's been in a bun/pony tail all day I wouldn't be able to restyle it without washing and drying.

My fringe and around my temples looks greasy at the end of an 8 hour shift, looks like it hasn't been washed in a week after 14 hours! Same when I get up.
I've tried spraying dry shampoo into the roots etc but it doesn't cut it, tried getting past the yucky stage and it just gets yuckier. I tend to only dry the front if I'm going to work and put it in a bun still wet.

underneaththeash · 23/03/2022 16:50

Mine looks and feels disgusting if I don't wash it every day.

Sprogonthetyne · 23/03/2022 16:52

Every other day, but will sometimes stretch it to three days if I tie it up

gunnersgold · 23/03/2022 16:56

Every 5-7 days .. it's curly so gets 1-3 days down then a few days up and maybe a cap if I'm being lazy . It's a 2 hour job so I don't like doing it too often ! My hair never goes greasy !

SarahBellam · 23/03/2022 16:57

Every day in the shower. It’s quite long and thick, but I don’t blow try it or use styling products on it, and it dries into quite a nice 70s Charlie’s Angels style. I don’t like the way it looks after a day or two. It goes greasy at the scalp and dry at the ends.

Ihaveroyallyscrewedup · 23/03/2022 16:59

Every four days, I have long curly hair, my hairdresser knows if I’ve been washing it more often and given me a stern talking to!
Getting through the first few weeks was unpleasant but my hair is in much better condition so the hairdresser was correct and I was washing it too often.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 23/03/2022 17:01

Every other day

Abraxan · 23/03/2022 17:01

I wash and dry mine every morning in my morning shower. Doesn't take me long as I just dry it and brush it, no actual styling taking place, not even a quick straighten or anything.

It's actually more of a faff for me to not wash it as I'd need to hunt out a shower cap and get it all covered before stepping in the shower.

BusterGonad · 23/03/2022 17:02

Once a week, I could go 2 but it starts to feel horrible. I absolutely hate washing my hair. There is no enjoyment in it at all.

Chely · 23/03/2022 17:02

It was a daily need until I stopped dying it, now every couple of days is fine. I tie it up mostly though so doesn't matter of it has been washed or not.

Thatswhyimacat · 23/03/2022 17:03

Could do every other day but it's so much nicer washed every day. Hate dry shampoo, it makes your hair so dull and dry and I've heard it's really unhealthy for your scalp.

LimeSupper · 23/03/2022 17:05

I’ve switched to olaplex shampoo and conditioner and it’s the only thing that’s ever really truly made a difference to the texture of my hair. I used to wash it every single day as it’s fine and looks greasy quickly. I now wash it every 3-4 days. I would like eventually to get to once a week but days 1-3 I can wear it straight and down and by day 4 I start to have to add a few curls/ clip it up or something as it’s just not as nice, especially as I workout.

Itsrainingatlast · 23/03/2022 17:08

I’ve been an everyday type of person since my teens; have also been blonde all my life. With lockdown I grew the colour out, discovered I was rather grey and am now a (dyed) dark reddish brown. My hairdresser begged me to stop washing every day, I am now Sunday and Thursday and if I’m not at work will leave it even longer. It’s in the best condition it’s ever been in (I’m nearly 50 and weep at the thought of all the lie-ins I could’ve had instead of washing my hair)!!

maddiemookins16mum · 23/03/2022 17:08

6/7 days. It’s very short, does not need dried and takes 30 seconds under the shower.

lollipoprainbow · 23/03/2022 17:09

@Takeawaytonight same !!
