Asking how often you have to wash your hair?

My own can't go over a whole day before it starts looking like it needs a wash. Fuckin nightmare and feels like high maintenance. How often are you able to go between washes? How long does your hair stay looking clean before it looks like it needs a wash? How often do you wash it?

lol used to wash it every day or every 2nd day but I started to increase the days between and now do it about every 5 days! l think it’s true that the more you wash it, the more you need to wash it.
My reason for increasing the time between washes was sheer laziness, lol have long very thick hair and just couldn’t be bothered with the faf! It genuinely doesn’t look or feel any different with 5 day washing that it did with daily

HomecomingKween · 23/03/2022 14:29

Every other day. With a spritz of dry shampoo on Day 2. (thank god for that stuff)

I roll my eyes at the advice that all everyone needs to do is to stop washing their hair and it will magically stop being greasy. I have ultra straight fine hair. That advice does not work for my hair type.

ukborn · 23/03/2022 14:31

Every other day, though it's been three now as had it cut in Monday. I have curly hair though so it just gets slightly flatter when it needs washing! My teen daughter does hers once a week.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 23/03/2022 14:31

Everyday.

But only because I work a physical, outdoors job and come home sweaty and dirty.

Blimecory · 23/03/2022 14:32

I hardly ever wash my hair. It looks better the less I wash it. My hair very dry and thick. I don’t have a hairdryer or straighteners, so it’s left to dry naturally if it’s washed.

AnneLovesGilbert · 23/03/2022 14:33

Twice a week/every 4 days ish. Fringe more often if needed but straightening it dries it out.

thenightsky · 23/03/2022 14:37

3 times a week. Usually Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Shoxfordian · 23/03/2022 14:37

I wash mine everyday because it looks manky (to me) otherwise

Tippexy · 23/03/2022 14:40

The more often you wash it, the more often it will need washing.

Bingo! We have a winner Hmm

Taurus221 · 23/03/2022 14:41

@EmmaH2022 I use a combination of Batiste dry shampoo for Dark Hair and Kristen Ess texture spray - there's also a dry shampoo they do which I'm yet to try but this combo everyday keeps my fine hair bouncy and grease free for days Smile

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 23/03/2022 14:44

I was my hair twice a week. My skin and hair is on the dry side and my hair is never greasy so I only wash it twice a week.

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 23/03/2022 14:45

Every few days. I usually use baby shampoo too which has extended time between wash days.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 23/03/2022 14:45
@Teeturtle I think it is 'washing' with conditioner
It is - I use a silicone free conditioner but you can also get specific co-wash products

Thank you!

Twice a week

DaisyDeli · 23/03/2022 14:53

Thick curly hair. Honestly, it never gets greasy, only tangled. Wash it weekly, mostly to get the tangles out (wear it up).

However, if I straighten it and wear it down, it's greasy and needs washing by day two.

Groovee · 23/03/2022 14:53

Twice a week, usually 3-4 days between.

I wash it with shampoo x2 then conditioner on the ends.

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 23/03/2022 15:03

Every night and it is thickish and long. I have tried to go longer but can't put up with the greasy feeling. I tried dry shampoo but that made my scalp itch.

TulipsGarden · 23/03/2022 15:12

@MrsGHarrison87

I do mine every morning. I've got fine hair though and doesn't take long to wash and dry. It looks good freshly washed and blow dried to give it a bit of volume but if I miss a day it looks like I've rubbed olive oil and on my head and flattened it down. I've tried washing it less but nothing changed so I'm happy to carry on as I am.
Mine is the same. Dead straight, fine, greasy hair. Washing gives it body. I could go another day but it starts to look stringy and lank.

The only time I could go a few days without washing my hair was when I was pregnant, and everything dried out. It was fantastic!

waterlego · 23/03/2022 15:14

Once a week. It’s thick, coarse and dry. It looks ridiculous for 24 hours or so after washing it because it’s so bushy. I don’t do straightening or use products (apart from shampoo and conditioner) because I am crap at styling and don’t care enough to learn how to do it.

I use shampoo and conditioner bars now so no plastic waste from my hair washing, which makes me happy.

SecondhandTable · 23/03/2022 15:18

I wash it twice a week - Saturdays and Wednesdays. I usually use dry shampoo and keep it tied up on Tuesdays and it does look a little worse for wear then otherwise.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/03/2022 15:20

Every ten days or so, I have very long thick hair. If you constantly wash your hair you will constantly need to. If you leave it your hair adapts.

BelleNoir · 23/03/2022 15:20

Twice a week for me, I always blow dry my hair, if I leave it to dry naturally it feels greasy.

Northernsoullover · 23/03/2022 15:21

Can I just say that some people really cannot train out the grease. I'm 50. I've tried. My hair is ridiculously oily. I have to wash it everyday. I can do a second day with batiste but although it looks OK I feel gross.

JorisBonson · 23/03/2022 15:23

Every day. Very fine hair + sweaty peri sleep means it's disgusting every morning.
