Asking how often you have to wash your hair?

My own can't go over a whole day before it starts looking like it needs a wash. Fuckin nightmare and feels like high maintenance. How often are you able to go between washes? How long does your hair stay looking clean before it looks like it needs a wash? How often do you wash it?

cowash weekly, occasionally twice if it feels there's a product build up or I've been somewhere dusty/dirty. Shampoo and conditioner maybe once a month. Wet it most mornings to tame the curls a bit.

middleager · 23/03/2022 14:07

Oh, I also give it a quick blast with my Dyson on days 4/5 to spruce up.

Tried Curly Girl Method for a while and learned to go a whole week with that.

Not bad for somebody with fine, greasy hair.

galacticpixels · 23/03/2022 14:08

Every 2 days, generally. I often go 3 days but it's really not nice on day 3 and I hate the feeling of dry shampoo in my hair.

Teeturtle · 23/03/2022 14:09

@TheAbbotOfUnreason

Every third day - but I only use shampoo about once a fortnight and instead co-wash.
What is co-wash?

Every 5ish days. Unless I need to go out before then. I give it a quick wash. It goes longer if I don't brush it.

EatSleepReplete · 23/03/2022 14:11

About every 3 days. I used to have to do it daily but managed to stretch it out. It took a few years to fully settle. I tried dry shampoo once, never again. Not sure if I was just unlucky with the brand but it caused my scalp so much irritation that I ended up with big open sores & bald patches. Awful.

Notimeforaname · 23/03/2022 14:12

Once per week but I have very curly hair.

Livpool · 23/03/2022 14:16

Every other day

Livpool · 23/03/2022 14:17

@Teeturtle I think it is 'washing' with conditioner

Vampirethriller · 23/03/2022 14:18

2-3 weeks.

Sisteragatha · 23/03/2022 14:19

I’m gonna sound grim but ;

Ages 12-25 ; everyday and fringe maybe twice a day
25 to pregnancy at 30 ; every other day
Pregnant ; once a week, maybe stretch to 9 days
After pregnancy ; every 4 or so days, more if exercising. I’m 40 now.

Wellthisiscrapeh · 23/03/2022 14:19

I’ve started doing it once a week because I just don’t have time to dry it more often than that (it’s horrible if I don’t blow dry it, it goes like frizzy straw).

You’d actually never know, it’s so odd.

I don’t do anything more strenuous than a brisk walk from sofa to fridge though, so it would be different if my head ever got hot sweaty I guess.

Nosleepingclub · 23/03/2022 14:22

Oh wow I feel grubby now haha

Usually every 5-7 days Confused

I used to wash mine everyday, then I wanted to wean my hair off needing to be washed so often.

Plus now, I have semi permanent dye in which means the colour fades the more I wash so it benefits me to wait as long as possible!

I think it helps that my hair is long and dark! I can pop it up in so many styles I think I get away with it!

SpringLobelia · 23/03/2022 14:22

I have very fine hair that gets greasy. It used to be that I had to wash every day. But now I am in menopause it seems I can do it every second day provided that I use a dry shampoo on the non-wash day. Otherwise it all gets too dry.

lljkk · 23/03/2022 14:23

Maybe 1x every 2-3 weeks.
It's rather dry. It fluffs up hugely after a wash & I don't like that fluffy look.

Adult DD insists her hair gets "greasy" if not washed daily.
In reality it feels like dead straw even though she pours huge amounts of conditioner on it.

deadlanguage · 23/03/2022 14:25

Usually twice a week. Less than a day sounds very unusual. Are you using a harsh shampoo?

Eeksteek · 23/03/2022 14:25

It depends what I eat. Too many carbs for too long, and every other day, minimum. Keto and I’m good for 5–7 days. My skin is the same. Keto=clear skin, bring out the pizza and chocolate and I have acne, no matter what skin care regime I do (or don’t bother to) follow. Bloody insulin has an awful lot to answer for!

TerryChoc · 23/03/2022 14:25

Pre-children was every day. Now children it’s once a week and natural dry. I have very fine hair that looks greasy hours after it’s washes no matter what I do but luckily also naturally very blonde hair so talcing powder does the job most days!

SVRT19674 · 23/03/2022 14:26

Alternate days except if I am going somewhere special, then I have to wash it It lasts 24 hours clean. My hair is quite greasy. When I was pregnant i didn´t have an inkling of grease on my hair, it was marvellous.

Blackberrybunnet · 23/03/2022 14:26

The more often you wash it, the more often it will need washing. I wash mine 3 times a fortnight - about 5 days between each. However ... if I am on holiday, I use dry shampoo every second wash so then only every 10 days or so. I have also experimented with "no washing". You mustn't use any products on your hair at all during the whole time you do this. For the first 2-3 weeks hair gets worse (tie it up or wear a head wrap. After that it gets better and better, and by 5 weeks of no washing hair looks great!

RosieLemonadeAndSugar · 23/03/2022 14:26

Once a week, sometimes I 'top wash' my own hair mid week if needed ( I have extensions ) I use ALOT of dry shampoo! I have found though the less you wash it, your hair just becomes automatically adjusted to it.

I used to be a wash every single day without failer about 6 years ago but I haven't done that for a long time now.

WhenDovesFly · 23/03/2022 14:28

Every single bloody day! I have lots of hair but it's very fine and when I get up I have the proverbial 'through a hedge backwards' look. I wish I had the patience to grow it so that I could tie it back or put it up for work, but it's in a short bob (which I like) that needs styling.

user1469130450 · 23/03/2022 14:28

I wash mine every day in the shower. If I dont I find my face and ears feel grotty even though obviously i've taken care of those separately. I need whole head under, shampoo and cleanser to feel clean. And I dont have oily hair or skin so it's not that. Probably psychological.

Minfilia · 23/03/2022 14:28

Once a week as recommended by my hairdresser. Dry shampoo daily after 48 hours though.

I have fine hair but quite a lot of it plus hair extensions which are a pain in the arse for hair washing.
