Harry suing the home office

TooEarlyForMe · 18/03/2022 15:11

Does he realise where the money they would have to pay him if he was successful in suing, would come from?

The British public

Thanks Harry.

When in the UK, I think he should have security, the same as any other member of the Royal Family.

TheHoptimist · 18/03/2022 15:50

@Nightlystroll

He has no choice about the life he will lead. That is exploitation.

Not only does he have a choice but he made it. He chose to go live in California and sell stories about his life and family. Which, if anything, shows him doing the exploiting. And he says he's happy now.

But every choice has consequences. The problem with Harry is that he had been so spoiled and protected all his life, that he is used to having no consequences for his behaviour and so now feels badly treated. But he wanted to live in the real world...

Prince George!

The comment wasn't about Harry

TheHoptimist · 18/03/2022 15:51

@Daenerys77

Of course he has a choice. He (and his wife) could have plastic surgery, change their names and move to somewhere quiet and out of the public eye where they could live comfortably on the money he inherited from his mother.
Ridiculous but in the days on DNA testing that isnt an option! Everyone ins traceable.
TheHoptimist · 18/03/2022 15:53

The country protects former Home Secretaries and Prime Ministers? Why not Princes?

cherrycokr · 18/03/2022 15:53

I'm not a fan of the Royal family but think he needs the security.

SamphiretheStickerist · 18/03/2022 15:54

He did/does. Prince Charles tends to pay for the security for his whole family. He has been paying £2mill/year towards their security bill in the US.

Prince Charles has paid for much of his family's security outside of state occasions for decades.

Just because Oprah chose her words vaguely carefully, for an audience that didn't really undertsand the differences between private and state funding, perosnal and state protection, doesn't mean Harry has been cut off/out of that arrrangement.

UK papers have carried details of this for a couple of years now.

cherrycokr · 18/03/2022 15:56

I agree with you to an extent, but does Zara Tindall have paid-for protection. And if not, why not? And if not, why does Harry need it?

Have there been plots around her?

Laiste · 18/03/2022 15:57

Don't be fooled with these 'I dont feel safe in the Uk' lies. He's trying to use our government with these lies to acquire IPP Status, hence never to have to pay for security anywhere in the world, saving him millions per year. It's another underhanded manoeuvre...

Just read this online.
Is this true? What's IPP status?

cherrycokr · 18/03/2022 15:57

Yeah. He could just live quietly and fade into the background like they wanted.... But low and behold the $$$$ Spotify, Oprah, Netflix etc proved too difficult to resist

I don't get the angst over this. Obviously he wants a certain lifestyle & security so Oprah etc is helping fund it. There's no obligation to consume anything he's in

BloodyN0rah · 18/03/2022 15:58

I think we should pay for his security, he didn’t ask to be born and will always be a target. I’m not a fan of the royals but if you’re going to have them then there’s a price.

He (and his wife) could have plastic surgery,

😆 Face off was a film, it's not real life!

SamphiretheStickerist · 18/03/2022 15:59

Maybe this, from last year will help

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9346083/Meghan-Markle-interview-Members-Royal-Family-dont-police-protection.html

And no, Zara Tindell gets no state funded protection.

Er, because former Prime Ministers, however imperfect, have a) achieved their position through a democratic process and b) done an actual job which needed to be done. The same cannot be said of the Royal Family. It would not matter one bit if they ALL decided to go and live a private life in California.
cherrycokr · 18/03/2022 16:01

😆 laughing at all the Daily Mail links, they are renowned for being subjective aren't they!

BlanketsBanned · 18/03/2022 16:02

Who is paying for his security for his Holland trip

EmpressCixi · 18/03/2022 16:02

If his offer of payment had been accepted it would open the floodgates for all VIPs, foreign and domestic, to have the right to "buy" our police protection squads. Yea, no thank you.

Didn’t we pay for Justin Trudeau’s security recently? And Trump when he visited? In my opinion it would be better to provide the security but for the VIP or their tax payers to fund it instead of us.

godmum56 · 18/03/2022 16:03

yeah but i kind of lost interest when i read that part of the Home Office's argument is that he didn't show due respect to Priti Patel

TheHoptimist · 18/03/2022 16:03

@BlanketsBanned

Who is paying for his security for his Holland trip
Is he taking his children there?
Georgeskitchen · 18/03/2022 16:04

If Harry wishes to visit the UK for Prince Philips memorial service or the Platinum Jubilee he will come under the umbrella of the Royal family's security team. If he wishes to visit his grandmother privately he will be protected by the security of the Windsor Estate. Scotland Yard don't have a pool of close protection officers sitting around waiting to be hired, and if Harry wishes to Swan around the UK as a private citizen he can bring his own (unarmed) protection squad to keep the paparazzi at bay.

EmpressCixi · 18/03/2022 16:06

Let the courts decide, he has the same right as any British citizen to sue the government. If his case has no merit, he will lose. But the idea he shouldn’t even try and sue to ridiculous. That’s a right everyone who lives here has, even non citizens.

Wasn't it more that Hazza wanted his US security detail to have access to the intelligence/counter terrorism info from the Met?

And the Met quite rightly said no.

girlmom21 · 18/03/2022 16:08

He knew what he was walking away from when he stepped back from the RF.
